Transcript
00:00infighting, mass resignations, and an investigation.
00:03No, this isn't an episode of Succession.
00:06It's the latest from Prince Harry's charity.
00:08The Duke of Sussex has quit as patron of his charity, Centabali,
00:12amid a huge bust-up involving its chair.
00:14Harry established the charity in 2006,
00:17alongside co-founder Prince Siso of Lesotho,
00:20in order to help young people living with HIV and AIDS in Southern Africa.
00:24However, the two royal founders and the entire board of trustees
00:27have now resigned due to unthinkable infighting within the organization.
00:32So, what happened?
00:34Well, according to The Times,
00:35there was a dispute over fundraising plans
00:37between the trust and chairwoman, Dr. Sophie Chandauka.
00:41Several trustees requested Chandauka's resignation,
00:44which she did not give,
00:45and have since left the organization themselves.
00:48Harry and Prince Siso wrote a joint statement
00:50and backed the departing trustees,
00:52and announced their resignations as patrons until further notice.
00:56They directly called out Dr. Chandauka,
00:58saying,
00:59The relationship between the charity's trustees and the chair of the board
01:03broke down beyond repair,
01:04creating an untenable situation.
01:06Dr. Chandauka issued a response,
01:08where she appeared to criticize the Duke for going to the press
01:11and playing the victim card.
01:13She claims to have blown the whistle
01:15and pointed to a cover-up at the organization.
01:17Centabali is now the subject of a charity commission investigation,
01:21and the body is assessing the issues
01:22to determine the appropriate regulatory steps.
