00:00The health department reminded the public that the weather is hot due to rabies.

00:08Meanwhile, the PhilHealth read the animal treatment package.

00:13BN Manalo is in the center of the news.

00:17Mother Hermie is doing everything she can to prevent rabies in her pets.

00:24Now, the weather is getting hotter.

00:27Especially, she has small grandchildren.

00:30I'm vaccinating her.

00:32When there's a free vaccine, I'm giving her antirabies.

00:37Now, I'm avoiding dogs that can bite.

00:42I'm giving her medicine.

00:44I'm giving her plenty of water.

00:47That's what I do every day.

00:50Of the more than 200 cases of rabies reported by the health department in 2020,

00:55this number almost doubled by the end of 2024.

01:00What's saddening is that all of these cases in 2024 were close to death.

01:0745% of the cases reported in 2024 were from pets.

01:1341% were from pets that were not vaccinated.

01:18The most reported cases of rabies were from Central Luzon.

01:22More than 1,000 were reported due to rabies from 2020 to 2024.

01:29The DOH reported more than 50 cases of rabies

01:34from January 1 to March 1 of this year.

01:38More than 40% of the 70 cases reported at the same time last year were lower.

01:45Prevention is very important.

01:48The number one step is to stop the spread of rabies infection from the source,

01:54which is from pets.

01:56That's why we really emphasize the importance of mass vaccination.

02:02Rabies is a deadly viral infection that affects the central nervous system of humans.

02:09It is transmitted from infected animals through coughs,

02:13colds, blisters on wounds, or blisters on the mouth, eyes, and nose.

02:19Some of the symptoms of rabies are fever, headache,

02:23fever, bleeding, fear of water and air,

02:27irritation or itchiness, change in thinking, and paralysis.

02:32The government is calling on the public to vaccinate their pets every year

02:38to prevent the spread of rabies.

02:41You can ask your veterinarian or local government to vaccinate your pets.

02:47And now, Rabies Awareness Month,

02:50PhilHealth raised the Animal Bite Treatment Package for its members.

02:54From the previous 3,000 pesos, it was raised to almost 6,000 pesos
