00:00The 2025 NFL draft is less than a month away. So it's time to do another Detroit Lions seven-round mock draft. Let's jump into it
00:11Hi, I'm Mike Payne with a disease sports Detroit today
00:13we're gonna do another Detroit Lions seven-round mock draft with some twists and
00:18We're gonna have a little bit of fun with it. Let's go ahead and jump right into it
00:22The Lions are going to start this whole thing off by making a trade up now
00:26I know that obviously trading down could be fun for the Lions and you know make sense in some ways
00:32They can grab extra players get more picks
00:35but the thing that makes more sense is that this roster seems like it's pretty much ready to go and
00:41You are kind of more angling towards like let's get some really good players
00:46You know, we're a few really good players away. Maybe one or two
00:50so
00:52In this instant the Lions trade up
00:55They're gonna make a deal with the Denver Broncos
00:57They're gonna send the 28th pick the 102nd pick from the third round and a 2026
01:02fourth round pick to the Broncos to move up to the 20th pick the Broncos will also be sending back the
01:09197th pick
01:11so with the 20th pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions are gonna select Alabama linebacker Jihad Campbell now, I
01:19Obviously know that Lions fans want this team to draft an edge rusher. It's the thing they want
01:25More than anything and I don't think that you should look at Campbell as if he can't be that
01:31I look at Jihad Campbell and I see a guy that fits the Lions mold in the sense that he could do a million things
01:38He's a really good linebacker solid in coverage, but can rush the passer to he had eight sacks last year
01:45This guy I think can be like a positionless weapon almost so you could use him in coverage as a linebacker
01:52but you could also
01:53Move him into that that you know outside linebacker spot where he can rush the passer
01:59And I think you just get a ton out of him. I think he's one of the best players in this entire draft and
02:05You know trading up to 20 was was no problem to make that deal
02:10But even then I still think you know, there's a chase. He could probably go higher than that
02:13So we'll see what happens, but Campbell I love to the Lions with the first pick. All right
02:19Now we're into the second round. We are gonna make another trade this time. We're going to make a deal with the Arizona Cardinals
02:25we're gonna send the 60th pick in the second round along with a
02:302026 seventh round pick to Arizona for the 78th pick in the third round and the
02:36115th pick in the fourth round with the 78th pick
02:39The Lions take Josiah Stewart edge rusher from Michigan if you're a Wolverines fan in addition to being Lions fan
02:46You know exactly what you're getting here. This is a guy who had nine sacks last year over 50 pressures
02:52He could be a really great pass rusher for this team
02:54I know you have Jihad Campbell in that kind of positionless weapon role
02:58But here's another guy who could just simply help you out
03:01He's a good good edge rusher good pass rusher lines have paid a lot of attention to him so far
03:07He's got a top 30 visit they've done multiple virtual meetings with him
03:12They talked to him at the combine. They talked to him at his pro day
03:16There seems to be a ton of interest in Stewart right now from the Detroit Lions
03:20So keep an eye on this guy as time goes forward with the 115th pick. The Lions are gonna take Sacramento State Offensive Guard
03:29Jackson Slater now
03:31He's an FCS guy. I think you know Lions fans
03:34We're probably hoping that the Lions might go offensive line earlier here
03:38But as Brad home says we are not a needs-based drafting team. That's his quote. That's not me saying that's Brad home saying that
03:47they want the best player that they can get and
03:49Slater is a very good steal out of the FCS
03:54He was one of the best offensive linemen in the entire conference last year
03:58This guy has not allowed a sack in two seasons with Sacramento State
04:02He is not allowed a sack at just 13 pressures
04:06There is there's something there and I think you know
04:08If you draft him and you have Christian mahogany start you have Graham Glasgow started the other spot
04:14You have a year's worth of development that you can have with Slater and then 2026
04:20He's your starter alongside mahogany and you have a nice little young
04:24Interior offensive line there. This feels like a steal. This feels like a really good pick
04:29One of those guys that is probably gonna go a little bit higher
04:32Then you might think he is just you know, even though he's at Sacramento State you think well, it's a small school
04:38But that stuff doesn't really matter anymore lines. Do you not care about that? They just drafted a guy from Canada last year. So
04:44This guy fits perfectly with the 130th pick the lines are gonna take Pat Bryant ride receiver out of Illinois
04:51Look, if you read my mock drafts, you know that I'm all about this guy
04:55I think that this if Dan Campbell were to go into a lab and make a wide receiver like he was Frankenstein
05:03This would be the guy this would be Dan Campbell's monster
05:06Just a big-bodied receiver can go up make contested catches
05:10But can block and wants to block one of the best blockers in the country in terms of receivers last year
05:18Wants to punish other guys wants to block wants to do that's just that's just lines all the way places a former team captain
05:23I mean, that's just Stan Campbell Stan Campbell style football right there. They have met with him formally at the Combine
05:30We'll see where things go going forward, but I believe this is a guy to watch with the 196 pick the lines will take a mod
05:37Hassanine from Boise State. This is somebody it could be interesting because I think there's some interior defensive line
05:45Availability there for him. He's almost like a Levi on Zurich a
05:48type player
05:50Definitely can get after the the quarterback. He had 10 sacks last year over 60 pressures
05:55You know, I think his pressures were top five in the entire country last year
06:01Athletically, he's not as gifted as a steward or a John Campbell is but there's there's something there that he could bring to the
06:07Table and and I think that is the versatility of having him on the outside and potentially on the inside as well
06:13So I'd like Hassanine to the Lions this late in the draft then one pick later with the
06:19197th pick the Lions are gonna take North Carolina guard Willie Lampkin
06:23I wrote about Willie Lampkin earlier this week because this is the most Brad Holmes type guy there is
06:29he's a 5 foot 11 guard who's undersized and
06:33Brad Holmes has come out publicly multiple times. It says he doesn't care about size
06:38He doesn't care about arm size or measurables or any of the things that draft experts really care about he cares about
06:45Can this guy play and when you watch Lampkin all you see is relentless effort from this guy
06:50He he plays really hard and he plays. Well, he's a good player if he was 6-2. He'd probably be a
06:57Day to pick I think this is a really good player
07:00Not only can you use him on the offensive line, but he could also be a defensive lineman a tight end a fullback
07:06He could do a lot of different things for the Lions kind of be
07:10Almost like a Sione Vaki type player where he's just a positionless guy
07:14it just you could do so much with him definitely someone to keep an eye on because I just think he fits the Lions so
07:20much with the
07:21228th pick the Lions are gonna take
07:24safety
07:25Dante Trader jr. Out of Maryland. I
07:28Don't really know if the Lions need a safety so much because I think of Ante Maddox was signed
07:34To Detroit to play safety rather than playing corner
07:37But here's a guy late in the draft you see what you can get out of them, you know
07:42Why not give it a shot with the 244th pick the final pick for the Lions. They're gonna take
07:48Central Florida running back Penny Boone who is actually a Martin Luther King graduate here from Detroit, Michigan
07:55This is an interesting one
07:56The Lions have been looking at running backs a lot during the pre-draft process and I think that they're kind of gearing up towards the
08:02Future, you know, David Montgomery's not going anywhere and Jameer Gibbs is definitely not going anywhere
08:07but eventually they will need to kind of replace some depth on on their roster and and
08:13Eventually, maybe David Montgomery will need to be replaced who Boone can potentially be that
08:19He's kind of a guy that can lower the shoulder and muscle his way through had a really really good year for Toledo in
08:262023 then transferred over to Central Florida probably shouldn't have done that because he just didn't really fit for them
08:33But it's interesting to see if he could be a late seventh round pick or an undrafted free agent
08:38I think the Lions would love to have somebody like this on their team
08:41He is coming in for the Lions local Pro Day. So there are gonna get a look at him up close and personal
08:47But I think running back is something that you should definitely think about the Lions drafting this year
08:51That concludes our seven-round mock draft for the Lions
08:54We will be doing another one closer to the draft and we will see you then
