00:00It is my very strong belief that the United States must reject that path of hatred and divisiveness
00:08and instead find the moral conviction to choose a different path, a higher path, a path of compassion, justice, and love.
00:21And that is the path that I call democratic socialism.
00:26I
00:49call myself a democratic socialist. At its core is a deep and abiding faith in the American
00:56people to peacefully and democratically enact the transformative change that will create
01:03shared prosperity, social equality, and true freedom for all.
01:10My father came to this country at the age of 17 from Poland. He came to this country
01:27fleeing antisemitism and fleeing violence and fleeing terrible, terrible poverty. And
01:37he came here and he never made a lot of money. But he was able to live a quality of life
01:43and raise his kids in a way that he never could have done from where he came.
02:37What socialism means basically is democracy. It's a society in which you don't have a handful
02:51of giant banks and corporations controlling the economic and political life of the nation.
03:05Maybe we should be protecting elderly people who have lost their life savings in a declining
03:11stock market. Maybe we should be protecting the millions of American workers who have
03:16seen their jobs go to China and Mexico. Maybe we should be talking about the fact that our
03:21healthcare system is collapsing and insurance rates are going up.
03:25Not only will I fight to protect the working families of this country, but we are going
03:52to build a movement of millions of Americans who are prepared to stand up and fight back.
03:58Today, we have a demagogue in the White House who for cheap political gain is attempting
04:13to deflect the attention of the American people away from the real crises that we face and
04:20instead is doing what demagogues always do, and that is to divide people up and legislate hatred.
04:30My question is, and I don't mean to be rude, but do you think if you were not a multi-billionaire,
04:40if your family has not made hundreds of millions of dollars of contributions to the Republican
04:46Party that you would be sitting here today?
04:49Don't you think that is a good thing?
04:51Well, I think what would be a better thing is for you to say right now that you recognize
04:58that we have a global crisis.
05:17Our campaign is about transforming our country and creating a government based on the principles
05:26of economic, social, racial, and environmental justice.
