00:00We need to make sure that people know that we are feminists and that's what we stand for
00:04and it's important to talk about because apparently not everyone agrees.
00:14I found my feminism in the public eye, in the public space and what that meant. I've always
00:19considered myself a feminist because I'm human and a woman so they go hand in hand for me but I think
00:27in the more public space and what that meant to talk about it and to stand for it, I think that's
00:34what I sort of discovered more.
00:35Margaret Atwood, this is for you and all of the women who came before you and after you who were brave enough to speak out against intolerance and injustice and to fight for equality and freedom in this world.
00:47Don't call me that. It's not my name. It's June. My name is June.
01:04June, her belief in humanity. With The Handmaid's Tale, I remember there was definitely this sense of
01:12oh this is something that we really need to talk about, this is something we really need to declare.
01:17We need to make sure that people know that we are feminists and that's what we stand for
01:21and it's important to talk about because apparently not everyone agrees.
01:32Look, I'm not a politician. I don't have speeches written for me.
01:38That's not what I do but I'm a human and I'm a woman and I'm a citizen
01:43so I think any person has the right to say what they feel and what they believe in.
01:52I felt like it was something that I felt was so important and sort of humbling in a way that
01:59there's just this costume that I was wearing and the fact that it stood for
02:03something so much greater than a television show was really a beautiful thing.
02:13Access to safe and legal abortion is a constitutional right. Six states in the
02:22United States are now down to one abortion clinic. Did I mention the part about not
02:27being a politician? I think it's pretty obvious. I mean it's autonomy over your body.
02:35It's not having the right to say what you want to do with your body.
02:39That's a pretty big threat. More people seem to care. You do interviews like this all day so yeah
02:47you do have that platform. I ask for justice.
