01:31So even though he is known as the architect of Trump's immigration policy and the architect
01:38of his speeches, he is having a huge influence on the reelection strategy of 2020.

02:18Trump likes to talk about how his immigration policy is about keeping out criminals and
02:23cartels, how it's about national security. But when you look at the man who is shaping
02:27his immigration policy, which is Stephen Miller, he is pulling policy ideas and policy
02:33proposals directly from think tanks that were created by eugenicists who believe in
02:38population control for non-white people in order to primarily target legal immigration.
02:44And this is why you see a disproportionate impact on,
02:48for example, the refugee admission system and the asylum system.
02:52The effect of this switching to a skills based system and ending unfettered chain migration
03:00would be over time you would cut net migration in half.
03:04And replace visa lotteries and chain migration with immigration systems
03:11based on skill and talent and merit.
03:14There's also white supremacist literature. He reads websites like American Renaissance,
03:20which is a white supremacist website that pumps out misleading and false
03:25crime statistics. And Stephen Miller inserts these statistics and these anecdotes of gruesome
03:32graphic crimes allegedly committed by migrants into Trump's speeches to create the perception
03:38in the American public that there's this existential threat in this country in the form
03:44of people of color.
03:45So we have people coming in to this country, some great people, some really bad people,
03:53too. And I mean murders and I mean rapists. I mean really bad people.
03:57Stephen Miller has found ways to bypass the bureaucracy. He often will reach deep into
04:04the bowels of the Department of Homeland Security and call up low ranking officials
04:09to issue his orders, completely bypassing the normal policymaking process in order to
04:14make sure that his what he wants and what Donald Trump wants is executed, regardless
04:19of what the national security experts are saying.
04:31It's very important for people to understand that this is far bigger than the immigration
04:35issue. A lot of White House officials told me that Stephen Miller's laser focus on demonizing
04:41communities of color left the country more vulnerable to a range of real threats,
04:46you know, from cyber warfare to domestic terrorism, right wing extremism and the pandemic.
04:52And this is because Stephen Miller repeatedly disregarded the input of national security
04:57and public health officials in order to push through his white nationalist agenda.
