00:00It's a bad virus, but it could have been far worse.
00:12It's almost like a good trial run.
00:14If I can't get water, I'm fine because I know I have several months of water at home.
00:19That doesn't happen if you're a prepper.
00:21You don't have to be part of that crazy crowd that's running around trying to wrap toilet
00:25paper in water.
00:26When the coronavirus crisis hit the U.S., there was one group who felt ready.
00:30The preppers.
00:31Survivalists who spend their free time preparing for the collapse of civilization.
00:359-11, that was the craziest year ever, right?
00:40Yeah.
00:41In 2001.
00:42Not even close anymore.
00:43I mean, 2020 is the year to remember.
00:46If you have this, at least you know, hey, I can drink from the river if I need to.
00:51It's delicious.
00:52I think he killed the turkey, Cameron.
00:59In the U.S., three million people say they're preparing for the possibility of societal
01:03collapse.
01:04Brut met two devoted members of the prepper community, Kobe and Cameron, who gave us their
01:09top tips for surviving the end of the world.
01:23Do you think you can run out of electricity in the U.S.?
01:27I think it's a very likely thing to happen, and probably will happen, as big cities will
01:33lose power from cyber attack or electromagnetic pulse or something that's going to be a little
01:40bit more wide scale, yeah.
01:44The grid goes down.
01:45If there's no power in three days, there's not going to be any food left in the stores.
01:49Nobody can Facebook or Instagram, so they lose their minds.
01:52Yeah.
01:53Go crazy, yeah.
02:00All right, so we're going to test out the Moronive Spark, which is a pretty sweet little
02:04Moronive, but it has a ferro rod in the handle, so this is pretty dang sweet.
02:09And then we also have the fat rope stick, so this is basically a fire starter.
02:13We're going to test this out and see how it does.
02:16All right?
02:18What I saw them doing was actually doing this to kind of fluff it up.
02:25Nice.
02:28And there she blows.
02:29Actually, that rod was pretty good, you know?
02:32Yeah, no.
02:33For being this small.
02:34Jeez, you could get easily 30 fires out of this.
02:37This stuff is freaking cool.
02:39I like it.
02:40A plus.
02:42This is a personal water filtration device that basically all bacteria, it'll remove 99.99999% of that.
02:50Basically, you just go fill this up with water, and I'll show you how that works.
02:54This screws right on, and you drink it.
03:01That is terrible acting.
03:02It's delicious.
03:03It is delicious.
03:08Does it taste?
03:10Tastes fine.
03:12I would let you try it if there wasn't COVID-19 going around.
03:15I mean, who knows?
03:16In times like this with COVID-19, there's no water, you can't get to the grocery store.
03:21What are you going to do?
03:22And if you have this, at least you know, hey, I can drink from the river if I need to.
03:26You know?
03:27If I have to come down here with my family and camp because town is crazy, you know, the virus is going nuts,
03:34then I can come here.
03:35We know we have water.
03:36We know we have food.
03:37We know we have a way to start a fire, and we're good to go.
03:42I think you are probably the first person we have had in the house in probably over a month just due to the pandemic
03:49and, you know, trying to keep the family as safe as possible.
03:51So, welcome.
03:59Hey.
04:00Hi, Daddy.
04:01Hi, girlies.
04:08Chickens are, it's very on purpose.
04:10It's very deliberate.
04:12Again, it's just another thing that can help keep the family safe, especially in a time like this, like this pandemic.
04:18It's another thing that if we had to, you know, we could just stay in and eat eggs.
04:23We talk about prepping all the time.
04:24They understand what it's for.
04:26Right, guys?
04:27You guys know what we're doing.
04:28Why do we prep?
04:30We store toilet paper and food.
04:32No, but why do we do it?
04:34Because so we're safe.
04:36Yeah, so we're safe.
04:37To keep the family safe, huh?
04:40You guys remember why we have the emergency plan, the disaster plan?
04:43Yeah.
04:44Why?
04:45In case we get separated.
04:47When?
04:48Like at school.
04:49Like at school, right?
04:50If something happens, if there's a disaster or something at school, what else?
04:56Yeah, those are the things, right?
04:58What else do we need to add on to that one now?
05:02Pandemic, right?
05:03I don't know why we didn't put that on before.
05:06We did not think about it.
05:07So let's just go through all of it real quick.
05:09What are the escape routes from our house if there's a fire?
05:13Where are they at?
05:14Which ones?
05:20So if we do have to leave really fast, we each have a bag that has stuff in it that we might need.
05:24You want to show her what you have in your guys' bag?
05:27This is a survival kit.
05:30It has compass, whistle, matches, first aid instructions, razor blade, pencil, non-aspirin pain reliever.
05:38So this has some extra masks, too.
05:40Flashlight with an emergency radio.
05:44People say about preppers that they're paranoid.
05:48To me, again, it's just a little bit of peace of mind.
05:50And I think the kids are less panicked because we've talked about it before.
05:54We've talked about a pandemic.
05:55We've talked about natural disasters.
05:57We've talked about economic collapses, all that crazy stuff that could happen.
06:01So it doesn't really surprise them.
06:04And I've seen a bunch of people worried or their kids are scared about COVID-19 and ours aren't scared.
06:12If something happened and I wasn't able to take care of these guys
06:15and I wasn't able to keep everybody safe and healthy and fed and water, it would be horrible.
06:28If things got really bad, I think a firearm is the ultimate defense item that you can have.
06:35I don't ever want to use it on a human, but we do always consider the fact that you may need to use it in defense.
06:48I have one pistol and then I have two shotguns and two small caliber rifles.
06:54It's just another insurance policy.
06:55It's no different than the food or the water or the medicine.
06:58It's another form of insurance as a prep or as an American or whatever.
07:03They're important.
07:11Gosh, this thing shoots so much smoother than that last gun.
07:18The gun is the great equalizer in any type of fight.
07:21Hopefully it's enough just to scare people off and say, hey, you don't want to come here.
07:24You don't want to deal with this.
07:26That's the hope, obviously, but we have it if we need it.
07:30And that's the good thing.
07:38I think he killed the turkey, Cameron.
07:40Man, those targets are sweet.
07:41I know.
07:42That's Thanksgiving dinner right there.
07:45For the past four years, Kobe and Cameron have been hosting a podcast called
07:49Kobe and Cameron have been hosting a podcast that's a hit with the prepper community.
07:53They mix survivalist advice with descriptions of apocalyptic scenarios.
07:57And since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, their audience has tripled.
08:01Welcome to the Casual Preppers podcast, the only place for prepping, survival and entertainment.
08:06We are your hosts, Cameron and Kobe, and we are ready to bring survival goodness direct to your ear holes.
08:12And we are ready to bring survival goodness direct to your ear holes.
08:17This is entertainment for that quarantine.
08:19Yeah, you ready, Cam? Are you excited?
08:21I am excited.
08:22We've been talking about COVID for, what, two months at least now, a little over two months.
08:26It gets crazier and crazier.
08:28If we go look at the overall numbers, confirmed cases globally, two million.
08:33That is insane.
08:34I think the first time we did these numbers, we had like 40,000 or something, right?
08:38And it just continues to grow.
08:40I feel like this year is like the sampler platter of all SHTF events.
08:47It really is.
08:48Let's try an earthquake out. Don't like it? Oh, let's try a pandemic.
08:50Oh, you don't like that? Let's try a war.
08:52Economic collapse.
08:53Let's try economic. This is like the year.
08:55And then on top of all that, we have a presidential election at the same time.
08:59So it is like the craziest year.
09:02Like I always used to say, you know, 9-11, that was the craziest year ever, right?
09:06In 2001.
09:07Not even close anymore.
09:08I mean, 2020 is the year to remember.
