00:00It is horrible what's going on with opioid and other drugs.
00:18Federal drug prosecutions have gone down in recent years.
00:23We're going to be bringing them up and bringing them up rapidly.
00:30Four out of every five new heroin addicts in the country today started on prescription opioids.
00:38So this problem Jake is not happening, it's not starting on our street corners,
00:43it's starting in our doctors offices and hospitals.
00:48So we can keep them from going on and maybe by talking to youth and telling them no good,
00:55really bad for you in every way, but if they don't start it will never be a problem.
01:11We prescribed enough opioids in this country in 2015 to have every adult in America fully
01:17medicated for three weeks. It's out of control and so one of the recommendations we're making
01:23is increased education for our doctors at medical schools and dental schools.
01:33So the first recommendation we say to the president is you must declare a national emergency,
01:37a public health emergency that will empower your cabinet, the executive branch and motivate the
01:41congressional folks to be able to fund this and to get on top of it.
01:46Every three weeks. That's staggering.
01:51The number of people who die are the number of people who died on 9-11.
