00:00We are back with TV Sports and we will talk live with Sir Yuri Go, the founder and CEO of LAROE.com.ph
00:11Good morning Sir Yuri. Good morning.
00:14Let's talk about what is LAROE and how was it formed?
00:18LAROE is a, how can I say this, it's a community based sports application.
00:24So how was it formed? We conceptualized this 2 years ago, in 2023.
00:30So I was joining pick up games.
00:32So pick up games are like normal games where you can join existing communities in Metro Manila.
00:38You just have to pay, for example, 250, 360. I joined that.
00:43And then we did the research.
00:45Wow, this is a lot.
00:47In Metro Manila, you will be surprised, I can confidently say that there are more than 50 communities or more than 100 communities existing in Metro Manila.
00:53Creating pick up games.
00:55It started with that and then we thought, hey, why not?
00:58We can create something to unify all of this and people can access it through the app, right?
01:03Actually partner, I also have a lot of people joining this.
01:07I have a lot of GZs on Facebook, on Messenger, who join this kind of pick up games.
01:12And you can play different games here.
01:15So it's good that we have this kind of platform.
01:18Do you have a target age, Sir Yuri?
01:22What is usually the age of those who are looking for pick up games?
01:27Is this only in Manila or is this also available in other parts of the Philippines?
01:31It's a very good question.
01:32So to answer the latter question that you have, where is it located?
01:37We have it in San Juan, Mandaluyong.
01:39As far as Batangas, we will eventually have in Lucena.
01:42We're already thinking of putting games in Mindanao, Visayas.
01:46Our main is in Mandaluyong, we have in Quezon City.
01:49And then for your first question, what is the age group?
01:54So Laro is both a community and an app.
01:58So the reason why earlier I said that it's a community-based
02:02because the centerpiece of this app is the community.
02:05So as a startup, it's very important that you have early adopters.
02:09So together with the community, we want to be able to hone this app to what it should be in the future.
02:16Because we get the feedback from the community.
02:18The community is the most important to us.
02:20Now, elaborating on why I'm using that to answer your question is because everyone is welcome.
02:28So our community, our goal there is to welcome anyone.
02:31It supports anyone, whether you're young, just starting,
02:35whether you're just sweating, whether you're just losing cholesterol.
02:39Anyone is welcome.
02:40That's what we want to do in the community.
02:42And is our community a competition to other communities?
02:45No.
02:46We want to be able to eventually unify all those communities and use the app
02:50so eventually people can have that one-stop shop or maybe we can call it an oasis.
02:55So they can just open the app like, hey, there are a lot of games.
02:59I can join those who are close to me.
03:01I know that it is safe.
03:03I can join.
03:04I can enjoy for the love of the game, right?
03:07It's a good thing because we have this kind of platform.
03:11But I just want to ask, Sir Yuri, what about the female players?
03:16Do they have games to choose from?
03:20Can I join? Can I join? Can I join?
03:23Yes, we are actually working with some companies and courts to have games for women.
03:30We actually have a community for women's basketball.
03:33We started it last year, but we just stopped it.
03:37But we are really working on it.
03:40It would provide a lot of benefits, not just for the women's basketball, but for all the community.
03:47Because we don't want the app to just be taking and taking and taking.
03:51When we say community-based, we want to be able to say we're doing an impact.
03:55We're creating something.
03:56We're creating value.
03:58And then the bottom line is innovating sports experience.
04:01But it's really popular, right?
04:03Because it's summer now.
04:04Yes.
04:05There are a lot of kids, and even if they're not that young anymore,
04:08they're looking for something to sweat or to play, especially when it comes to basketball.
04:15But Sir, what is the objective?
04:17Why did you create this game?
04:19The goal of the game is for it eventually to be a super app.
04:24So what I mean by super app is like the existing ride-hailing app.
04:27When you open it, just an example, it already has delivery, it already has food,
04:33you can go from point A to point B.
04:36So what I mean by super app is when you open the app, the goal there is they can join events.
04:41Whether this is pick-up games, this is leagues, 3x3, trainings, 3-point shootout,
04:47creating competition within the app.
04:49They can book sports venues within the app, and not just basketball.
04:53The reason why we named it Laro, it's not because we can name it like hook,
04:57something that's related to basketball, right?
04:59But we named it Laro because eventually we want it to expand to other sports.
05:03I was going to ask that earlier.
05:05So when they named the game, what are the sports here?
05:10Right now, it's basketball.
05:11We started with basketball because as you know, basketball is the most popular sport in the Philippines.
05:16And we're creating the community around basketball for now.
05:21But we're targeting the latter part of this year to expand to other sports.
05:26You've mentioned earlier, Sir Yuri, that we need to meet up with our adapters.
05:33What are we going to do there?
05:35Because there are already a lot of communities here that will have pick-up games.
05:39So here in Laro, just one?
05:42So they can come here?
05:43Is that right, Sir?
05:44Yes, that is the goal.
05:45That eventually there will be one or it can be different communities.
05:49That is why we have early adapters.
05:51So as you can see, my answer is it's not certain.
05:54The reason why we have early adapters as a startup is because they are the people that gives a startup a chance.
06:01Because we're coming in like an app.
06:03It's something new.
06:04It might have been done before, but it's something new.
06:08We're telling people that this is a solution.
06:10But is it really a solution?
06:12So that is why we have early adapters within the community.
06:14That is why they are valuable.
06:15Because they give us the best piece of building this, which is feedback.
06:24When we get feedback, then we can continuously innovate the app to what it should be.
06:29And our early adapters, they are our market.
06:32So we're creating the app.
06:33We're building the app to be for them.
06:36I saw that you partnered with PBA Motoclub.
06:40How did they get in here?
06:41And what are the upcoming events, especially when it comes to youth?
07:06Because it's something that I believe is not yet seen.
07:09It's already existing, but we want to create more of that.
07:13Why PBA Motoclub?
07:18The initial thinking, something that's superficial for me, of course, is when it comes to PBA Motoclub,
07:23I'm happy that they recognized us and they agreed to partner with us.
07:28It's actually creating, it's like we're getting minted.
07:32It's like putting a stamp that, hey, we want this, we believe in this.
07:37By PBA Motoclub, by partnering with that and them believing in us,
07:41that gives us a boost and really creates more, how can I say this, confidence.
07:49I'm saying lack of a better word.
07:53Sir Yuri, you mentioned earlier that we're going to have trainings, grassroots programs.
08:03Can you share with us those kinds of things that we're going to do?
08:09So, I apologize that I'm going to answer a lot of questions here.
08:13So, in the game, we're also partnering with different locations of basketball courts.
08:19So, our goal here is to eventually target the whole Metro Manila.
08:23That's why we're partnering with different courts.
08:25Now, when we do training, it's not going to be focused on one place only,
08:29but eventually create trainings in different areas.
08:34And this summer, Sir Yuri, what you were saying earlier about upcoming events for the youth,
08:42do you already have a target area?
08:44What program do you have here?
08:48Or are you already preparing for this?
08:51The program itself, it's still being prepared by us, including Motoclub.
08:57But the venue, we're targeting it to be in Met Park Sports Center or in BGC.
09:02Okay. Do you have a question, partner?
09:05Sir Yuri, I just want to ask, other than our grassroots programs,
09:11what makes this game unique?
09:16I would say that, going back to earlier, the Super App.
09:19So, I'm just thinking out loud my thought process on this.
09:24So, when I said that Super App, it's not only going to be booking for sports venues,
09:29it's not only going to be booking for events, but people can also create their profile.
09:34We will be able to track their progress, their stats, and then eventually giving them opportunity.
09:40So, when we talk about grassroots, imagine if we are able to track their data, right?
09:49We will be able to give them opportunity, connect them to the right people, to the right team,
09:53because we have their sports, their performance data.
09:57While it's opening opportunities, especially for the kids or your promising aspiring athletes in the future,
10:04because we know that there are a lot of Filipinos who love basketball.
10:08And of course, they are hoping to become professional basketball players in the future.
10:15Sir Yuri, I just want to ask, how will you track their data?
10:22Will there be a follow-up or will they be the ones to input to the Super App?
10:29Good question. Because we want to be the ones to enter it for data integrity.
10:34We want to make sure that the data is correct and not corrupted. So, it will be us.
10:42Sir, when will you be able to implement or execute other sports openings here in the game?
10:51I would say latter part of this year, Q4 or Q1 of next year.
10:56Do you have a specific timeline or duration so that you can say,
11:01this is the basketball, this is okay.
11:04I mean, have we achieved all of our objectives or is there more?
11:09For sure, there are future developments, partner.
11:13Because this app is good, I can see the potential.
11:16This is the first one, right?
11:17This is the first one that they can go to, especially for those who want to play basketball.
11:23Well, as a startup, to answer your question, it can, it's not set in stones.
11:29Although, I would wish for Q4 to deliver all of this.
11:33Internally, there are delays then. There are blockers.
11:37But we want to work around those blockers. We want to be able to achieve our goals.
11:41It might not be Q3, it might not be Q4 or early part of next year.
11:46But eventually, those goals, we are very motivated.
11:50We know that we should be doing this to innovate sports experience.
11:54But I'm interested, Sir Yuri, what motivated you to create this game?
12:02Are you really a professional basketball player?
12:05Is your background in basketball? Did you play college basketball?
12:08I'm not a professional.
12:10I played varsity when I was in high school.
12:12But you know, the game is just right.
12:14It's not good.
12:15It's just a passion.
12:16Yes, it's just a passion. I just want to play.
12:17That is why I think I'm also, I would like to think that I'm the best person to create this kind of community
12:24that welcomes anyone of any level.
12:27Of any level, no matter how good they are, recreational or not.
12:31Because I'm not good at basketball.
12:33I just want to be able to have fun, to enjoy.
12:36You know, even if it's just a simple shoot, I'm already happy.
12:39That's a very proud part because there are those kind of individuals
12:44for the love of the sport.
12:46For the game, yes.
12:48Not just for basketball, but for all sports.
12:50Sir Yuri, if you're interested, I'm sure there are many people who are interested in the game.
12:56Where can they see you? What social media page?
12:59Where can they go?
13:01And if you want to invite, you can go ahead.
13:03Yes, you can.
13:05Hopefully, you can follow our page, Laro PH.
13:08You can also visit our website, laro.com.ph.
