00:00Kind of like an accident happening in my house right now.
00:03Yeah.
00:04Well, let's take you back to happier times.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at roles,
00:09interviews, and other moments that turned us into Sebastian Stan Stans.
00:14Is that Bucky?
00:17It's a winter soldier.
00:19Yeah, he's so cool.
00:22Number 20.
00:23Making us mad for the Hatter.
00:25Once upon a time, many first took notice of Stan when he was cast as Bucky Barnes.
00:30For self-proclaimed Oncers,
00:32the Mad Hatter is the role that made us first go crazy for Stan.
00:35What's crazier than seeing and not believing?
00:37Because that's exactly what you've been doing since you got to a little hamlet.
00:42Open your eyes.
00:45Look around.
00:48Wake up.
00:49This version of the Hatter isn't initially mad.
00:51Jefferson, as he's also called, uses his magic hat to venture between worlds.
00:56After being trapped in Wonderland and separated from his daughter,
00:59Jefferson becomes lost in a labyrinth of grief, desperation, and madness.
01:03Losing your head is one thing, but Stan makes us feel for Jefferson as he loses his heart.
01:08It's hard enough to live in a land where you don't belong, but knowing it,
01:14holding conflicting realities in your head will drive you mad.
01:19With Stan's schedule getting busier,
01:21Jefferson inevitably became one of the numerous characters Once Upon a Time forgot about.
01:26At the very least, Stan was able to bring closure to the role, finishing the hat.
01:30Papa!
01:34You found me, I knew you would.
01:37Number 19.
01:38Owning the 80s bad guy archetype, Hot Tub Time Machine.
01:42A year before Captain America The First Avenger, Stan starred in another period piece.
01:46Yes, 1986 counts as a period piece,
01:49and this movie authentically captures the spirit of the ski comedies that came out during that era.
01:56Those are the kind of ski shenanigans I don't allow on my mountain.
02:00Of course, it wouldn't be an 80s ski film without a preppy jerk.
02:04Enter Sebastian Stan's Blaine, a ski instructor swept up in Reagan-era Cold War hysteria.
02:10Commies looking for this?
02:11Yes.
02:11Yes, yes we are.
02:14You think we could get that back?
02:15No, you may not.
02:16But bad news for you, sport.
02:18I'm a patriot.
02:19Although this could have been a thankless role,
02:21Blaine has his fair share of funny lines, with Stan elevating each of them.
02:25Stan knows that his character is a tool,
02:27having fun with what's usually a one-note stereotype.
02:30As much as we'd like to punch Blaine,
02:32we'd be lying if we said that Stan didn't make him entertaining to watch.
02:35This is an 8.5 situation.
02:38If we stop counting, they're gonna blow us sky high.
02:40Number 18.
02:42Drawing Bucky Barnes, Jimmy Kimmel Live.
02:44Well, what I'd like to do now, we've done this the past couple of nights,
02:47and we've had mixed results.
02:49But I've got a bunch of pads, and I've got some pens.
02:52With the release of Avengers Infinity War,
02:54Jimmy Kimmel challenged the cast to draw their characters.
02:57The results were mixed, with some being pretty legit,
03:00and others looking like what an average teenager doodles in their school notebooks.
03:04A solid attempt.
03:06Took it very serious, but didn't mean it was gonna be a good picture.
03:09Stan's self-portrait stood out as one of the most unique.
03:12Rather than go for realism, Stan took an exaggerated approach,
03:16giving Bucky bulbous eyes and untameable hair.
03:19We especially love how he strived to capture the Winter Soldier's cybernetic arm,
03:23yet merely drew a stick figure for the other arm.
03:25Is it just us, or does Stan's sketch almost look like a Scott Pilgrim character?
03:29Cassie, they're about to roll the camera.
03:32Not like a bowling ball, the camera doesn't roll at all.
03:34You learn a lot on a movie set.
03:36Acting may be his calling, but if Stan ever pursues a career as a cartoonist,
03:40we'd love for him to draw us.
03:42Number 17.
03:44Playing musical beers, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
03:47The Avengers were divided in Civil War,
03:49although the real battle was on The Tonight Show,
03:51where cast members competed against each other in a game of musical beers.
04:02While he might have been goofing around,
04:03nobody looked like they wanted to win more than Stan.
04:06This is reflected in his performance,
04:08intensely hovering over those red cups as if they were infinity stones,
04:12and not holding back any obscenities.
04:14The game eventually boils down to Stan and Jimmy Fallon.
04:28It's a close call, but the host ultimately comes out on top.
04:31You win this round, Fallon,
04:33but you wouldn't want to go up against the Winter Soldier in any other drinking game.
04:36The guy can hold his liquor thanks to that super soldier serum.
04:40Wow, you really good drink.
04:42Yeah, well.
04:44Number 16.
04:45Remembering his most famous lines, Variety.
04:48Looking through Stan's filmography, you might find yourself saying,
04:51oh yeah, he was in that.
04:53Stan himself had a similar reaction
04:55when Variety tested his knowledge of his most famous lines.
04:58I look at all those cards and I go, was I even in that many projects?
05:02I guess I'm pretty old now.
05:04While Stan was familiar with much of his MCU dialogue,
05:07some lines threw him for a loop.
05:09Endgame.
05:10We've said it a few times, but yeah, Endgame.
05:13Oh, right.
05:14This was Endgame.
05:15This was the scene when it's sort of goodbye,
05:17which was also a scene I learned that we were shooting that day.
05:21Even if he didn't remember every line,
05:23Stan had fond memories of each project,
05:26from working with Margot Robbie on I, Tonya,
05:28to being nervous about meeting Nicole Kidman while making Destroyer,
05:31to noticing Ridley Scott's filmmaking genius on the set of The Martian.
05:35Oh yeah, he was in that.
05:36As far as Stan has come since the beginning of his acting career,
05:40there are still plenty of people who know him best as Carter Bazin from Gossip Girl.
05:44Once in a while, I'm still in a coffee shop somewhere,
05:47waiting in line, trying to get like an iced Americano,
05:50and I'll just hear Carter Bazin behind me,
05:54and I'll just have to slowly turn around,
05:57usually amazed that people still remember that character.
06:01Number 15.
06:02Participating in an Actor's Roundtable interview,
06:05The Hollywood Reporter.
06:06He does require a closer look,
06:09and not writing it off just as a way of distancing ourselves,
06:14but really going in there and seeing who is this person.
06:18Stan was in talks to participate in Variety's annual Actors on Actors interviews
06:22with his portrayal of Donald Trump generating awards buzz.
06:25This reportedly fell through because the other actors' representatives
06:28were hesitant about their clients discussing the controversial politician.
06:32The Hollywood Reporter found a spot for Stan in their Actors Roundtable, however.
06:36Joined by Adrian Brody, Coleman Domingo, and a few other A-listers,
06:40Stan was given a platform to discuss The Apprentice and A Different Man.
06:44You want to be doing meaningful work, right?
06:46You feel like, especially as you get older,
06:48you know, you want to be a part of something that stands the test of time.
06:53Concerning the Trump biopic, Stan delved into what drew him to the part,
06:57the panic attacks it brought on, and the weight gain it entailed.
07:00For all the press the role has garnered,
07:02Stan was surprised he's still better recognized for a different project.
07:05Cannibalism of it all, somehow people still come up with,
07:09and women also, with the cannibal thing, and I just don't understand it.
07:13Speaking of which...
07:15Number 14.
07:16Showing how deliciously evil he can be.
07:19Fresh.
07:19Anyone who's met Sebastian Stan will likely tell you that he's a genuinely nice guy,
07:24so it's always fun when he gets to play a truly reprehensible human being.
07:27No character in his filmography is more diabolical than Steve,
07:31or should we say Brendan?
07:33But you go by Steve, right?
07:35No, just Brendan.
07:38Who are you?
07:38His name isn't the only thing Brendan lied about.
07:41Luring Daisy Edgar Jones' Noah to his prison,
07:44Brendan plans to sell her body parts to wealthy cannibals
07:47and maybe have a nibble himself.
07:48It sounds like something out of an exploitation picture,
07:51but the film has a refreshing satirical edge.
07:54You gotta show me.
07:55No, it's just dumb.
07:57You... you saved the breast till last.
08:03Edgar Jones and Stan both understand the assignment
08:06as the latter balances charisma with pure evil underneath.
08:09Funny yet intimidating,
08:11Stan's performance is never overcooked or undercooked.
08:14It's just right.
08:15So...
08:19I cooked us something.
08:22If you're open to trying it.
08:24Number 13.
08:25His friendship with Adam Pearson.
08:27In A Different Man,
08:28Stan's character forms a rivalry with Adam Pearson's Oswald.
08:32Behind the scenes, though, the two became fast friends,
08:35which is evident in their chummy interviews.
08:37If you're going to do something, you've got to do it well,
08:40and that was, like, really important from day one,
08:42to kind of hop on a Zoom and be really emotional,
08:46honest, to the point of being visceral,
08:48to help sort of, like, equip each other to be able to do this
08:52and to get the best performances we could.
08:54The film sees Stan portray a man with neurofibromatosis
08:57who changes his face.
08:59Pearson has neurofibromatosis in real life,
09:02and while this factors into this performance,
09:04it isn't what solely defines Owen.
09:06Oswald has photographic memory.
09:09I'm pretty sure I have photographic memory technically,
09:12but will that come in handy in this situation?
09:14You already know your lines.
09:16I don't know I'm sure, but can I ask?
09:18That is the question.
09:19You can!
09:19He can!
09:20You've seen it, we've all seen it.
09:21Oswald's a natural.
09:23If it's right, it's right.
09:24Like his character, Pearson is charming,
09:26humble, and incredibly social.
09:28He's used his platform to fight against stigmas,
09:30with Stan helping to spread his message.
09:32When a reporter used an insensitive term
09:34to describe Pearson's condition,
09:36Stan was quick to correct him.
09:38And I have to call you out a little bit on the,
09:40you know, the choice of words there,
09:42because I think, you know, I think part of why the film is important
09:46is because we often don't have maybe even the right vocabulary.
09:50Pearson has also been supportive of Stan,
09:53congratulating his main man following that year's Oscar nominations.
09:57Number 12.
09:58Winning a Golden Globe, A Different Man.
10:00Stan was unrecognizable in A Different Man,
10:03and not just because of the makeup.
10:05His performance ranged from outrageous to tragic,
10:07as a man torn between his old life and new life,
10:10unable to find satisfaction in either.
10:12You know how we idealize people when we're in love?
10:14So I'm the idolized version of Oswald?
10:16No, no, not me, as Edward.
10:18Why can't it just be him?
10:19Why does she have to idolize him so he's somebody he isn't?
10:21Well, frankly, Guy, to keep you in the play.
10:24His layered performance would win a Golden Globe
10:26for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy.
10:30Stan again spoke about the importance of championing people
10:33with disabilities and disfigurements, allowing them to tell their stories.
10:37These are tough, tough subject matters,
10:40but these films are real, and they're necessary,
10:42and we can't be afraid and look away.
10:45His speech was heartfelt, timely, and personal,
10:47thanking his mother and stepfather for giving him the best life possible.
10:51What transpired backstage was equally memorable,
10:53as Anthony Mackie hijacked his Entertainment Tonight interview.
10:56It wasn't the first time something like this happened,
10:58and we doubt it will be the last.
11:00We certainly hope not.
11:02What you feeling right now, bro?
11:03This is my dream and my nightmare all in one.
11:06Yo, well, wake up, baby, because we are in paradise.
11:10Number 11, becoming an Oscar nominee, The Apprentice.
11:13Sebastian Stan gave two award-worthy performances in 2024.
11:17Everybody's lining up to kiss your ring now, kiddo.
11:20You've arrived.
11:21The Academy ultimately favored his work in The Apprentice,
11:24delivering an uncanny portrayal of a young Donald Trump.
11:28While Trump impressions are a dime a dozen these days,
11:31Stan's performance takes us back to a time
11:33when the future president had a less brash voice,
11:35spoke more eloquently, and was just developing the art of the deal.
11:39You don't know me at all, but you will.
11:41You'll never forget me after this, because I won't forget what you just did.
11:44Although this is a more naive, inexperienced Trump,
11:47we immediately see his ambition and thirst for power
11:50that'll only become more unquenchable as he takes everything he wants.
11:53We wouldn't call his portrayal sympathetic,
11:55but Stan turns in the most nuanced interpretation of Trump possible,
11:59getting to the root of what made him the man we know now.
12:02What is truth, Tony? What is truth? You know what's truth?
12:07What you say is truth, what I say is truth, what he says is truth.
12:10What is the truth in life? Deny everything, admit nothing.
12:14You know what's true? What I say is true.
12:16Number 10. Perfecting the Winter Soldier's signature move.
12:20Captain America, The Winter Soldier.
12:22The Winter Soldier's signature knife flip is a memorable flourish
12:26that left viewers seriously impressed.
12:37While Stan makes the move look effortless,
12:39it apparently took weeks to practice to get it just right.
12:43The actor shared that he'd take pretty much any opportunity
12:46to brandish a plastic knife in the lead up to filming that iconic fight scene.
13:02It really shows his dedication to the role,
13:04especially as it was actually performed by a stunt double in the movie.
13:13Still, watching him in rehearsals is thrilling.
13:23He's got the choreography down to a tee,
13:25and the knife toss is just as exciting no matter how many times we see it.
13:38Number 9. Getting his flirt on with Sharon Stone.
13:41The Late Late Show with James Corden.
13:44While visiting The Late Late Show, Stan met his teenage crush,
13:47Sharon Stone, and took the opportunity to shoot his shot.
14:07We love his assuredness as he flirts with the actress.
14:11Seemingly forgetting that James Corden, Zach Woods, or the audience are even there.
14:16But that's just fine, we're happy to watch him.
14:18And clearly, the actor's got game.
14:21He obviously wasn't expecting her response,
14:23but his reaction's just as endearing and hilarious.
14:26You can tell how excited he is to be beside her,
14:41and he can't resist making his feelings known at any opening.
14:45It's entertaining and charming, and all we can say is Stone's one lucky lady.
15:07Number 8. Cooking Greek Food, Pam and Tommy.
15:16Tommy Lee is no angel in the biographical miniseries,
15:22but one of the character's standout moments is when he channels his frustration
15:26into something appetizing.
15:28He's angry after the motley crew centered behind-the-music episode
15:32implies that the group's recent album bombed.
15:35So when Pam comes home, she's greeted by Tommy and a full-on Greek feast.
15:45He serves up the dishes with such enthusiasm,
15:55and it's precisely how we all want our meals presented from now on.
16:16It also portrays a distinct chemistry between the pair
16:18as they work through a plethora of emotions together.
16:29This scene left us drooling, and not just because the food looks delicious.
16:35Number 7. Discovering his spice tolerance, Hot Ones.
16:46When Sebastian Stan embarked on the Hot Ones challenge,
16:56he didn't really seem to know what he was getting himself into.
16:59Regardless, he puts on an impressive show,
17:02fighting back tears and choking out answers while coming to terms with his spice threshold.
17:15We learn a lot about the actor, ranging from his various jobs
17:27and desire to host a food show with Anthony Mackie,
17:30to his interest in the West Side Highway and astronomy.
17:37Even though he's clearly in a lot of pain, he perseveres and is as charming as always.
17:46It's one of his best interviews, but we have no doubt he was happy when it was over.
17:57Number 6. What does the Moo Cow say? 100 Monologues.
18:09In 2014, the Theatre Communications Group published Eric Bogosian's
18:14acclaimed collection of monologues, while Bogosian himself began posting
18:18video performances of them, one per week, until all 100 were online.
18:23Stan's contribution, Highway, where he plays an unsuccessful hitchhiker,
18:28is particularly memorable. While waiting for a ride,
18:32he talks about his life and the events that led to this moment.
18:35It's quite a thoughtful piece about living life to the fullest,
18:38even if you have to stray off the beaten path alone.
18:42However, one highlight sees the actor break from his more serious and subdued tone,
18:47to explain what sound the Moo Cow makes.
19:03Nevertheless, the performance highlights his wide-reaching talents,
19:06and proves he deserves more leading roles.
19:13Number 5. Roasting Tom Holland with Anthony Mackie
19:28The ever-growing MCU cast has treated us to plenty of unforgettable pop culture moments.
19:47It also gifted us this iconic bromance, and the relentless,
19:50good-natured ribbing of Tom Holland.
19:57We're not sure whether it's his youthfulness, Britishness, or that he once played Billy
20:05Elliot, but The Falcon and the Winter Soldier really have it in for Spider-Man.
20:10Ultimately, they're just concerned that Holland's success will go to his head,
20:27and that he'll get a bit too big for his web.
20:30It'd be hard to come by an interview where they don't roast the young Brit,
20:34yet it's always entertaining.
20:40But don't worry, Holland knows how to dish it back just as well.
21:03Number 4. Opening up about his heritage, IndieWire
21:10Sebastian was just eight years old when he and his mom left Romania following the
21:24revolution and fall of communism. In light of the Oscar-nominated documentary Collective,
21:30Stan and filmmaker Alexander Nanal shared their experiences and memories of leaving
21:34their birth country and settling somewhere foreign.
21:39The actor divulged that he developed a complex relationship with his native Romania,
21:54and it took him years to finally embrace his heritage. He also shared how his past
21:59shaped his career and influenced his determination to tell the right stories.
22:09It's intriguing to hear him shed light on a lesser-understood part of the immigrant experience.
22:26He now hopes to learn more about his former homeland.
22:30Number 3. Entertaining us from quarantine
22:33Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you.
22:39Nothing said 2020 more than this video of Sebastian Stan going through
22:43all the stages of quarantine in about 90 seconds.
22:55It starts with him standing around, unsure of what to do, before cutting to him washing his
23:00hands and cleaning the house pretty thoroughly. Like many of us did, he goes through several time
23:06wasting activities, such as trying to catch food in his mouth and reading an apparently hysterical
23:12book. But once he pops the cork, the party really gets started.
23:36He jams out to hit after hit, showcasing some impressive vocal range.
23:42Eventually though, he seemingly exhausted all forms of quarantainment,
23:55except for flicking a light switch on and off.
23:58Number 2. Anthony Mackie takes over his interview, Entertainment Tonight
24:03During a chat with Entertainment Tonight,
24:13Sebastian Stan's interview gets commandeered by his Captain America co-star.
24:26Mackie's the ultimate hype man, singing his friend's praises before grabbing the mic and
24:31taking charge. This moment gives us a glimpse into their friendship that we can only imagine
24:36is even more fun behind the scenes. Watching the pair vibe and bring out the best in each
24:52other is really enjoyable, and it's obvious that their friendship is genuine. We're not
24:57sure any seasoned interviewer could have scored anything quite as entertaining.
25:13You just know that it's bound to be a barrel of laughs any time they're on set together.

25:34Number 1. Chemistry with Anthony Mackie, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier
25:54A lot of choreography and precise planning go into creating these Marvel epics.
26:00However, that doesn't mean there's no room for improv. According to The Falcon and The Winter
26:05Soldier director Kari Skoglund, Stan and Mackie's phenomenal chemistry inspired their miniseries.
26:11Together, they're so on fire that she knew she could just let the cameras roll and they'd take
26:16care of the rest. This is best exhibited during the therapy scene from episode 2.
26:34Indeed, we can never get enough of what's arguably one of Marvel's most dynamic duos.
26:40These actors bring out the best in each other, and their partnership's nothing short of iconic.
26:46More Bucky and Sam on our screens, please!
