00:00The loan agreement for the two giant pandas, Fu Wa and Feng Yi, at Zunigara has been extended
00:07between China and Malaysia, says Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister
00:13Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. He said the pandas remain a symbol of close friendship between Malaysia
00:19and China.
00:20Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Malaysia
00:21He started the extension. It's a symbol of friendship between Malaysia and China. It
00:27draws the visitors to Zunigara. So I think that's why the government has been supportive,
00:33what do you call that, to locate the panda in Zunigara.
00:38He said at the Concord Club meeting on Monday, when asked if the agreement was for the existing
00:43pandas or new ones, he said it was for the existing pair.
00:46Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Malaysia
00:47As far as I remember, it's for the existing couple. So it's just an extension of that.
00:54The agreement is that if it gives birth, then that one we have to send back to China. So
00:59I think we send back offspring, the previous offspring. So it's about the current panda.
01:06Fu Wa and Feng Yi, the two giant pandas at Zunigara, were loaned from China to Malaysia
01:11on May 21, 2014, marking the 40th anniversary of Malaysia-China relations. Ten years have
01:19passed, and Zunigara hopes for at least a two-year extension of the panda loan. Zunigara
01:25was previously recognized by the Chinese government as one of the world's best caretakers of giant
01:30pandas. Fu Wa and Feng Yi, renamed Xing Xing and Liang Liang, have had three offspring.
01:37All three panda cubs have been returned to China as part of the agreement between Malaysia
01:42and China.
