A girl sustained injuries during a violent gunfight between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua on Sunday evening.
Transcript
00:00A reminder of how terrorists are shifting focus now to the Jammu region, which had been relatively peaceful while Kashmir was burning because of Pakistan.
00:08Now a massive encounter has been reported from Jammu's Kotua region.
00:13A gunfire has been reported between armed forces and terrorists.
00:17But this is getting very significant now.
00:20They are taking and attacking the civilians, even little children.
00:25Terrorists have escaped for now, we are told, but a girl has been hurt.
00:29A little child has received some injuries in this cross-firing that has happened.
00:34Search operations are underway.
00:36It's a joint operation by the army, Jammu Kashmir police and paramilitary.
00:40Drones have been used for surveillance in Kotua as well.
00:44Information coming in that the terrorists intended to kidnap a family, husband, wife and child.
00:53Listen in now to this ground report coming in by my colleague Sunil G. Bhatt
00:58and importantly what the eyewitnesses are saying, the eyewitnesses who managed to flee from the terrorists.
01:22The border security forces, the Indian army and the ground forces have reached here.
01:29The entire area has been surrounded.
01:32And the fight against the terrorists has begun.
01:37Actually, what is being reported is that there is a woman from this village
01:41who had gone to cut wood with her husband in the jungle area.
01:45And there she saw the terrorists.
01:48We also spoke to that woman.
01:50She claimed that she saw five terrorists in the jungle area.
01:54And those terrorists tried to kidnap her and her husband as well.
02:00But somehow they managed to save their lives and reached back to the village.
02:05And immediately they informed the police here.
02:08And after that the police teams reached here.
02:10And along with that the Indian army, border security forces and ground forces teams also reached here.
02:15And then the security forces teams went to the jungle area.
02:19And a fight started there.
02:21Brother, we went to our farm.
02:23There is a jungle near our farm.
02:25We cut some wood in the jungle.
02:28We went a little further.
02:31As soon as we went further, five terrorists were sitting there.
02:35Five?
02:36Five.
02:37Three of them caught her.
02:38Your husband?
02:39They caught my husband.
02:41They said, we won't kill you.
02:43Listen to us.
02:44Come to us.
02:45I went two steps ahead.
02:47As soon as I went ahead, I got a signal from my husband.
02:50Then run.
02:51Run.
02:52I ran from there.
02:54That terrorist came behind me.
02:56He ran and came behind you?
02:58He ran with me for five minutes.
03:00I came behind him.
03:02He said, I won't let you go.
03:04I will shoot you.
03:05Then we didn't go.
03:06As soon as we caught him, we gathered our stuff.
03:08Did you inform the police?
03:10Yes, I informed the police.
03:38He's joining me live from location.
03:40Sunil, what is the current status?
03:42Just take me through the timeline.
03:44What exactly happened?
03:45How did the terrorists now indulge in a cross-firing with the forces?
03:51Through the night, what happened?
03:57Pooja, last evening, security forces got information that there were some terrorists hiding in the forest area
04:04in Jammu and Kashmir's Katwa district's Hiranagar sector.
04:07This forest area is located near the Sanyal village.
04:11There was a lady who had gone with her husband to the forest area to fetch some wood.
04:20She was hiding in that particular forest area.
04:22They even held her husband as a hostage.
04:35What happened?
04:38These are…
04:43…Hilly region that is there.
04:45Remember, the terrains are not easy in the Jammu region as much,
04:49and it's in many ways more widespread than the Kashmir valley,
04:52which even in the past is often more populated.
04:56Here in the kind of villages that we have in Jammu and Katwa,
05:00it's a reminder how these innocent civilians
05:03who are simply going on about their farming ventures
05:06have to deal with these terrorists who have managed to infiltrate from Pakistan,
05:11sponsored, sent by Pakistan.
05:14Sunil Jinhat is on the ground.
05:15He is consistently giving us all the details.
05:18And a family member, husband, wife, a child,
05:21who managed to see, identify, we were told,
05:25were in many ways attempted to be kidnapped by the terrorists,
05:28but they managed to flee, inform the higher authorities,
05:31of course, who then rushed to the site.
05:33Cross-firing that's been on since last night.
05:36Just look at these terrains.
05:38Remember, it's very difficult to be operating on these kind of mountains as well.
05:43I want to immediately bring in Sunil again.
05:45Sunil, so I understand the network would be slightly sketchy where you are,
05:49but you were telling us about how the information reached the authorities,
05:53cross-firing started.
05:55Tell us more.
05:59Well, Pooja, last evening, a lady and her husband
06:03had gone to the forest area here in Sanyal village of Kathua district
06:08to get some wood.
06:09And they spotted five terrorists in the forest area.
06:13The husband of that lady was taken hostage by the terrorists.
06:16We spoke to that lady.
06:18That's what she has told us.
06:19And she said that the terrorists even tried to hold her also as a hostage,
06:25but somehow she managed to save her life.
06:27Her husband also escaped, and the terrorists chased them.
06:31But they managed to reach their village, Sanyal,
06:33and they immediately informed the locals as well as the local police here.
06:37Teams from the Jammat Kashmir Police, Indian Army, BSF,
06:41Central Paramilitary Forces immediately reached this particular area.
06:44They laid a cordon, and many teams of the security forces also went to the forest belt.
06:51And then an encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists.
06:56Since then, the encounter is on, the search is on for the terrorists who are hiding there.
07:01The lady told us that she spotted five terrorists,
07:04and we have spoken to our sources also in the security establishment.
07:08It's being believed that this group of terrorists may have infiltrated
07:12recently from India-Pakistan international border.
07:16And Pooja, India-Pakistan international border is just four kilometers from the spot
07:21where I'm standing right now.
07:23I will just ask my camera person to show you the pictures.
07:25On that side is India-Pakistan international border,
07:28and it's being believed that these terrorists had recently infiltrated
07:32from the India-Pakistan international border.
07:34And Pooja, in the recent past, we have seen that Pakistan has changed its focus area.
07:39It's now focusing on Jammu region.
07:42And in the last three years, we have seen many encounters taking place,
07:45whether in Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwad, and hilly belt of Katwa district.
07:50Pooja, after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A,
07:54we have seen that peace has been established in the Kashmir valley,
07:59stone pelting has come down, and terror incidents,
08:02there has been a major decline in the terror incidents as well.
08:06That is why Pakistan is rattled, terrorists are rattled,
08:09and they are now focusing on Jammu region.
08:11But this time, this particular encounter is taking place in the plains of Katwa district,
08:16so it's a matter of huge concern for the security agency.
08:19Stay on with me, stay on with me.
08:20Remember, viewer, what Sunil is saying is very important.
08:22You have to understand that compared to the line of control that we have in Jammu and Kashmir,
08:28the international border is literally across the border.
08:33It's a huge field and then you have the I.B.
08:35And therefore, perhaps that is the reason terrorists are able to infiltrate.
08:40Now they are focusing on Jammu region.
08:42Just imagine for a minute, innocent villagers, civilians,
08:45most of them are farmers, want to just go on and about their life,
08:49have to look at, sometimes confront, and save their life from these terrorists.
08:54Of course, a lot is being done by the border security force, by the Indian army,
08:58to ensure infiltration is foiled every bit that takes place.
09:02Sunil, now tell me this, as we continue to bring the reports that you are sending to us,
09:07tell me about this family.
09:09Many are talking about the courage of this husband, wife, child.
09:12They were in the fields, they noticed that these are not local,
09:16they are definitely not even Indians possibly.
09:20And then they informed the authorities.
09:22So, is this something that the villagers are confronting on a regular basis now?
09:28Because we see situation, whether it happened in Rajouri, Riyasi,
09:31these terrorists don't shy away from targeting innocent people too.
09:40Remember Pooja, last year also, similar thing had happened in Katwa district,
09:44when local villagers had spotted terrorists,
09:48those terrorists had demanded water from the villagers,
09:52but instead those villagers shut the door and they informed the security forces.
09:57Now, same thing has happened in this particular case also.
10:00A lady and her husband had gone to the forest area to fetch some wood,
10:05and they spotted five terrorists there.
10:08The lady told us that her husband was held as a hostage by those terrorists.
10:13Three of those terrorists held his hands and they also put a gun on his head.
10:19That's what the lady told us and she showed great courage and determination.
10:24She escaped from that spot.
10:26Her husband also managed to flee and the terrorists chased them.
10:31Imagine, the lady told us that her priority was to somehow reach her village,
10:37just to inform the villagers and the police.
10:40And even if she had lost her life, she would not have regretted it,
10:44but her only priority was to inform the local villagers as well as the local police.
10:49The lady and her husband managed to save their lives.
10:52They reached this village, they informed the local villagers here,
10:55and they also immediately informed the local police.
10:58And soon, the teams from the J&K police,
11:02as well as from the special operations group of the J&K police,
11:05from Indian Army, BSF and Central Paramilitary Forces,
11:08reached this particular spot and they also went deep inside the forest area.
11:13A cordon was laid and an encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists.
11:18Since then, the search is on for those five terrorists
11:21who are hiding in the forest area of Kathua's Hiranagar sector.
11:27So far, no fresh contact has been established with the terrorists,
11:33But this also means that these freshly infiltrated terrorists,
11:38possibly active terrorists, are still in the area.
11:42These are massive fields, massive forest areas, not easy to operate.
11:45But the forces are on the job, the Indian Army, the J&K police and more, and paramilitary as well.
11:50But I can tell you when it comes to Jammu region,
11:53especially that it will be the residents, these local citizens,
11:56who will ensure they as much stand guard against the terrorists
12:00trying to disturb peace and prosperity of J&K.
12:03But we'll be tracking, it's a big operation at hand for the forces,
12:06they'll have to find these five terrorists before they can cause harm and we wouldn't want that.
12:11We'll be tracking that. Sunil, stay safe, thank you for getting us this ground report.
12:22Rajya Sabha chairperson has called a meeting on the issue of unaccounted cash,
12:26piles of cash that was found at Justice Verma's residence in Delhi.
12:31The chairperson of the upper house of the parliament, Jagdeep Dhankar,
12:35has called a meeting at 11.30am with the leader of the house, J.P. Nadda,
12:39leader of opposition Malik Arjun Khatke,
12:41with reference to observations made by him on 21st March,
12:45in response to points raised by Jairam Ramesh, the Congress member of parliament.
12:49Piyush Mishra joins me for the latest on that.
12:52Piyush, tell us more about how this issue has now found an echo in the parliament as well,
12:58especially in the Rajya Sabha.
13:02Absolutely, Pooja, we are now hearing that a meeting has been called in by Rajya Sabha chairperson,
13:07Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar in this meeting, leader of the house, J.P. Nadda,
13:12leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha, Malik Arjun Khatke will be present.
13:17What we are learning from our sources is that this meeting is most likely to be focused on the points
13:23which were raised by Jairam Ramesh.
13:25You would remember that last time, during the session, Jairam Ramesh had categorically requested
13:31the chair to direct some observations to the government to have some sort of judicial accountability.
13:37He had also said that the opposition had signed an impeachment notice against a judge
13:43in which more than 50 MPs had signed but no actions have been taken so far.
13:46And that motion was basically against a judge for the remarks which he had made
13:51during the proceedings in Allahabad High Court.
13:54But no actions have been taken and that is why it is important to have a better judicial accountability.
13:59And he had also raised the issue of cash, those have been found there at the residence of Justice Verma.
14:04And looking at that, what we are now learning is that Jagdeep Dhankar is going to have a meeting
14:09with both J.P. Nadda and Malik Arjun Khatke.
14:12We can expect some sort of discussion also to take place on this because this entire controversy
14:17is now echoing in the Upper House of the Parliament.
14:20Piyush, what are we expecting in the Parliament?
14:23Do you think there could be repercussions of this in the Lok Sabha as well?
14:26But importantly in the Rajya Sabha, what could it lead to?
14:29Will it lead to possibly a further inquiry?
14:31There has already been a probe that has been decided by the Collegium.
14:34A transfer has been done.
14:36How will then the Parliament look at it?
14:40We can expect this issue to be discussed in both the Houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
14:45Because in Lok Sabha, Congress leader Malik Arjun, Manikam Tagore has now given an adjournment notice
14:52on this entire matter.
14:53In Rajya Sabha, a meeting has been called in by Jagdeep Dhankar.
14:56We can expect the discussion to take place in both the Houses where the opposition is going to seek answers
15:01from the government.
15:02But government sources, Pooja, have categorically told us that it is waiting for the recommendations
15:07from the Supreme Court.
15:08Government does not want to interfere in the proceedings in the investigation,
15:13which has in fact been ordered by the Supreme Court.
15:16And that is why it is waiting for its recommendations.
15:19If you go by the process, the Supreme Court's Collegium takes action.
15:23And after finding, if Justice Verma is found guilty, then he could be asked to resign.
15:28And if he does not resign, then the Supreme Court can recommend the government
15:33or any other member of Parliament to come up with an impeachment motion against him.
15:38So there are processes that have to be followed.
15:40So that is one possibility that may happen, that Piyush is telling us.
15:44Because remember, if it reaches the Parliament, it could be another level of action that could be taken,
15:48possibly against a sitting judge.
15:51Thank you very much, Piyush. I'll keep coming back to you on this.
15:54Remember, this has caught everyone's attention.
15:56It's been one of the biggest stories over the weekend that at a residence of a sitting judge,
16:02Justice Verma, huge piles of cash, unaccounted, were found.
16:06And that was when the first responders arrived to control a certain blaze,
16:10a fire that had taken place in his house.
16:13Now, where did this money come from?
16:15Was it his personal money? What was it doing in such large amounts?
16:18But there's been a defence also that has come in from the judge.
16:22But first, in an unprecedented move, for the first time possibly,
16:26the Supreme Court has uploaded reports regarding the discovery of this unaccounted cash
16:31that was found at his residence. It's a rare public disclosure.
16:34The top court releasing reports, photographs, videos,
16:37concerning allegations of this unaccounted cash.
16:40But Justice Verma, on his part, has also given out a statement.
16:43He's denied the allegations of a cash haul and he's defined.
16:46He's claiming that the storeroom where, so to say, these half-burnt wads of cash,
16:52piles of cash were kept in a cupboard, the storeroom was kept unlocked at all times.
16:57It was always accessible to everyone, including his house staff.
17:00Basically suggesting that there was no secrecy around it.
17:03However, authorities have made a counter that the cash was found in a locked storage.
17:09And that has cast a doubt on Justice Verma's claims as well.
17:13So, we've put out both statements for you, what Justice Verma is claiming
17:16and what the authorities have said as a counterclaim.
17:19Meanwhile, a three-judge panel has been formed by the Apex Court to investigate the case further.
17:24He's already been transferred to Allahabad High Court.
17:27I want to bring in India Today's legal correspondent, Srishti Ojha, for the latest on that.
17:32Srishti, of course, this has got everyone's attention.
17:34It's after all a sitting judge, massive piles of cash.
17:37What is it doing in his residence, at his home?
17:40Tell us, one, about what Justice Verma has said,
17:43because in many ways he's still on the roster of the Delhi High Court right now.
17:47What is his defence?
17:48And how possibly is this being taken ahead by the collegium and by the top judges' bench?
17:57Well, Pooja, as you rightly pointed out, the Supreme Court in this case decided,
18:01has taken the approach of full transparency and disclosure
18:05because they've decided to upload all the documents,
18:08all the relevant communication with regard to this case.
18:11We also saw the top court earlier say that there's a lot of misinformation spreading around
18:15with regard to Justice Yashwant Verma's case and the allegations against him.
18:19Now, in those communications is also Justice Verma's reply to the Delhi High Court Chief Justice
18:24with regard to these allegations,
18:26where he has vehemently opposed and denied all these allegations,
18:29clearly saying that the cash, which was allegedly found,
18:33did not belong to him or any of his family members.
18:36In fact, he said that even when the fire incident took place,
18:39it was only his daughter and his old mother who were there in the residence.
18:43Justice Verma and his wife were not in Delhi at that point of time.
18:46According to him, even while dowsing, when the fire was being dowsed,
18:49his family members and staff were asked to step away.
18:53They were sent away and were asked to step away from the said storeroom.
18:57According to him, the incident took place in a storeroom,
19:00which is on one corner of his apartment,
19:03and it's completely on the opposite end of where his family,
19:07in the bungalow in which his family basically resides.
19:10He's also questioned that, you know,
19:13why would anybody keep currency or notes in such huge amount in a storeroom,
19:17which is accessible by everybody.
19:20According to him, the room always used to remain unlocked
19:24and had access from multiple gates of his house and was accessible to multiple people.
19:28So he's basically saying that this clearly looks like a conspiracy to malign him
19:33and to frame him in this case and to damage his reputation
19:37that he has gained as a sitting Delhi High Court judge for so many years.
19:41Not just that, we also saw him saying in his reply that even he would be,
19:45he would want, he would be grateful if an inquiry is initiated
19:48with regard to all the past cases and even of the legal fraternity
19:52is, you know, asked about him and how he has been as a judge for all these years.
19:56So these are the questions which Justice Yashwant Varma has raised with regard to the allegations.
20:00We saw the Delhi High Court Chief Justice in his inquiry report submitted to the CJIC
20:05that prima facie, as per the inquiry that he's conducted,
20:08as far as that room is concerned where the incident took place,
20:11that room was accessible by the persons who were living in the bungalow.
20:15Other than that, the servants, gardeners and also the CPWD personals deployed at this house.
20:21So according to him also, a deeper probe into this entire issue was warranted,
20:25is what he told the Chief Justice of India.
20:28A three-member committee, as we know, has been constituted comprising of two sitting High Court,
20:35Chief Justices of two different High Courts and a High Court judge.
20:38A judicial inquiry will now be underway and the committee will have a great tough task ahead
20:44because a lot of inquiries will have to be...
20:46There will have to be a benchmark.
20:48There should be a fair inquiry into it, a fair investigation.
20:52But if there is a question mark here on credibility, I hope that enough action will also be taken.
20:57We're talking after all about a position that is supposed to be giving the most independent,
21:02intelligent, fair judgments in any case, irrespective.
21:06So we'll be tracking closely on what exactly happened in this case
21:10and what was this pile or should I say piles of cash that was at his residence of a sitting judge.
21:16But let me just tell you about the cash haul and the investigation that has come in this case.
21:20Now what has the three-judge panel probe going to be doing in this?
21:24The first responders to the fire in the storeroom will be questioned
21:28because they will have the exact perspective.
21:30The team that was there as emergency services arrived to put down the blaze,
21:34what did they find in the first place?
21:37The investigation will be on the sequence of the events on the night of 14th March.
21:42Who called when the fire happened?
21:44When did the first responders arrive?
21:47What did they find?
21:48When did they find the cash inside the cupboard?
21:52Authenticity of the burnt cash video will be probed.
21:55Till now there were, remember, just sort of conjectures about the cash.
21:59Then videos emerged.
22:00Authenticity of the video will have to be verified by this three-judge panel.
22:05The forensic teams will be also roped in for the investigation in this case.
22:09Was it real cash?
22:11How much of it was found possibly even though half burnt?
22:14The investigation will be on the contradictory remarks by cops and judge.
22:18The judge says my family wasn't even there.
22:21This was all open as a storeroom.
22:24So basically in many ways alleging if someone put the cash there,
22:27what the cops who found the cash will have to say.
22:30The fire chief's statement on the cash recovery will be investigated.
22:34He is in fact the highest authority.
22:35He had made a certain comment in the past after the incident.
22:38So that will be probed as well.
22:40Judge Varma's call records will be investigated.
22:43This will be important more as digital evidence.
22:45Did he have conversations with someone over the past few days?
22:49But apart from this, who will be quizzed?
22:52Household and official staff,
22:54especially the ones who were present inside the residence at that time when the fire had happened.
22:59Security personnel at the judge's residence
23:02because after all when it's a sitting judge,
23:04there's always a security protocol around his house.
23:07Gardeners or CPWD personnel who had access to the storeroom.
23:11To which remember the judge had said it was always open,
23:14it was always accessible and therefore,
23:16the ones who had access to the storeroom could also be questioned.
23:20Fire services officials who were first responders and who recorded the video
23:25because eventually it's about the evidence.
23:26That's how the information came out when the blaze happened
23:30that there is this unaccounted cash.
23:32Fire services chief will have to explain contradictory statements as well
23:36coming in from himself despite the videos that had surfaced.
23:39So there will be of course a series of names,
23:42numbers that will be investigated and more
23:45to get to the bottom of the situation.
23:47Who put the cash there?
23:49Where did the cash come from?
23:51And if it was Judge Varma's cash and piles of cash,
23:54what was it doing for such large number,
23:57unaccounted to be at a sitting judge's residence?
24:00Take a look at this report because this is one story
24:02that's got everyone's attention.
24:03We're talking about remember a member of judiciary usually seen above scrutiny.
24:07What's happening this time?
24:19On the night of March 14,
24:21a large stash of cash was discovered
24:24after a fire at Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma's official residence.
24:31In a rare public disclosure,
24:33the Supreme Court uploaded reports, photographs and even videos
24:38regarding allegations of the recovery of burnt cash notes
24:47following an initial investigation by the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
24:55The Supreme Court released the High Court's internal inquiry report on its website.
25:01The Supreme Court also uploaded videos and photographs
25:05which Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora shared with the court during investigations.
25:14Half burnt wads of currency notes were recovered from Justice Yashwant Varma's official residence.
25:24Just listen in to what the first responders said on ground.
25:54The cash notes were found by the police and the fire department.
25:57They all would have possibly the alphanumeric number codes
26:00and that will be very substantial for the investigative team
26:03to find out the source of withdrawal of this income.
26:06Four to five days ago, we were cleaning up here.
26:08We were picking up a pile of trash.
26:10There were some burnt notes in it.
26:14They were small pieces.
26:16We don't know where the fire started.
26:18Our job is to pick up the trash.
26:20The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India
26:23has formed a three-judge probe panel.
26:27The panel will probe the source of the unaccounted cash.
26:33Who removed the burnt cash pile
26:36and details of staff with access to the room where the cash was stashed.
26:44Justice Varma in his defence claimed a conspiracy.
26:48He denied any knowledge of cash in the outhouse.
26:54Justice Varma insisted the storeroom or the outhouse was accessible even to outsiders.
27:03Justice Varma has been explicitly asked not to delete any data from his mobile phone.
27:27While the Supreme Court will wait for the probe panel report,
27:30the Centre is keeping an eye on all developments.
27:51Has the cash mountain found at a judge's house
27:55exposed the rot in India's judicial system?
28:00Bureau report, India Today.
28:09Cops have detained some of the alleged vandals who were at the Mumbai Comedy Club
28:14and indulged in vandalism which was caught on camera.
28:17We are told that they have been booked for rioting, criminal intimidation.
28:22This was, remember, over a joke or a modified song, so to say,
28:26that was spoken by Kunal Kamra, he's a stand-up comedian,
28:30on Eknath Shinde.
28:31It was very clearly targeting Eknath Shinde of how he's a traitor,
28:35how he has split the party of Shiv Sena into two
28:38and in many ways helped bring down the government in Maharashtra.
28:42Now, enquire also has been filed after the vandalism over this joke.
28:48Shiv Sena workers have been booked for this violent controversy.
28:52The charges, assault on public servants,
28:55they've been accused of criminal intimidation
28:57and they, remember the visuals on your screen, look at that.
29:00After we had performed there at the venue,
29:03the Shiv Sena workers landed up throwing chairs, vandalising the venue.
29:10Here's what has happened, I'm joined by Vidya for the latest on that.
29:13Vidya, tell me more about the charges that have been filed
29:17by the Mumbai police.
29:18How many vandals have been arrested or detained for now?
29:26Well, you know, the detention has not really happened.
29:29They were there, you know, the statement or recording is still happening.
29:33Mumbai police, I'm at the Khar police station
29:35where the FIR against these vandals is registered.
29:38But remember, as of now, no one has been arrested per se.
29:43We asked the senior police inspector just now, who was standing outside,
29:47he said that there's been no arrests as yet and he'll let us know.
29:51But of course, as of now, you know, the cases that have been invoked
29:56against about 19-20 of these vandals,
29:59those who have vandalised the entire studio,
30:02they have been named in the FIR that has been registered
30:07and the sections that have been invoked are, you know, quite stringent.
30:11If you look at it, they are, you know, for assaulting
30:14or using criminal force against public servants.
30:17There's unlawful assembly, of course, and rioting.
30:20And then there's wrongful restraint or putting people to fear of death.
30:24You know, these are the sections that have been invoked
30:27apart from trespassing and several other sections.
30:31So, as of now, Mumbai police has registered the FIR.
30:34Now, we'll really have to see as to how many people are arrested, detained,
30:37produced in court in this particular case as of now.
30:41Vidya, stay on with me because there's more and more details
30:43that are coming in in this case.
30:45The charge against the vandals right now that has happened.
30:50We have more news coming in. Let's take a look at that.
30:53This is the venue, the Habitat Comedy Club that's been temporarily shut
30:57because clearly there wouldn't likely be an event
31:01right after the vandalism that was reported.
31:05After the joke that was cracked,
31:07it was basically a mention of how Eknath Shinde,
31:11who even though is not directly named by Kunal Kamra,
31:16but of course you can make out from what he mentions,
31:19how he describes the individual, that it is Eknath Shinde,
31:22calling him a gaddar in as many words,
31:25and then that he splits the party.
31:27Very scathing in nature, the words that were used,
31:30but again the whole debate and aspect of freedom of expression
31:33comes in here. Should it be allowed?
31:36How much of it should be allowed?
31:38And in turn, is vandalism acceptable?
31:40So here's what has happened.
31:42The comedy club says, shocked and worried.
31:44They have decided to shut the venue temporarily.
31:48And remember that in Mumbai this time,
31:51this is the incident that is being witnessed.
31:54We'll listen to what is being said with regard to what happened that evening.
32:04Such people need medical treatment.
32:07And if such people are not admitted to a hospital,
32:11then through Shiv Sena, we have Balasaheb's shikon.
32:15If we do 80% social work and 20% political work,
32:18then we will definitely correct their minds.
32:21Such people who walk on two legs,
32:24who work with a purpose,
32:27who are their bosses,
32:29will definitely come out in the police inquiry.
32:31Call records have come to the police.
32:33Who did they talk to? Who praised them?
32:36For any wrongdoing.
32:38If anyone has done anything wrong,
32:40then praising them, if it suits you,
32:43then the world knows your worth.
32:45There is 110% conspiracy.
32:47This is purely Sanjay Raut,
32:50who has put a damper on Maharashtra.
32:53It is such a misfortune of Maharashtra
32:55that such people have to watch our family at 9 in the morning,
32:58who turn off the TV.
33:00When such people are not able to work,
33:03then we hire such people and get them to work.
33:31Yes, so you know what is interesting is that
33:35the Habitat Centre has been a very popular place
33:38for these open mic sessions to take place.
33:41It's been a place where a lot of these youngsters,
33:43a lot of celebrities in fact also have visited in the past.
33:47You have, you know, open houses happening,
33:51comedy skits being said,
33:53there's a lot of literature, a lot of poetry.
33:55It's sort of seen as a place of freedom of expression
33:58by not just the youth but also by the community,
34:00by the actors, by the fraternity.
34:02Now they have taken to their Instagram page
34:04after this vandalism and they have expressed their worry,
34:07they have expressed their concern
34:09and with utmost sadness they have mentioned
34:11that they are temporarily shutting down
34:13because obviously there is a big matter of safety
34:15and concern that now is in place.
34:17A lot of bookings that were happening
34:19for the next few weeks have also been cancelled.
34:21Samay Rehna who was earlier in another controversy
34:24was also booked, was supposed to come
34:26and perhaps, you know, sort of do something
34:28in the next few weeks.
34:30That has been cancelled.
34:31So everybody in Khar, Bandra, Bombay,
34:33the entire community, the comedians,
34:35the ones who do stand-up comedy,
34:37they all have sort of, you know,
34:39jumped on their individual social media accounts
34:41to express concern and worry about the fact
34:44that will they be able to come out
34:46and have a safe space to perform
34:48and entertain their fans.
34:50Kushal, thank you very much for the latest on that.
34:52So it's the comedy club bearing the brunt
34:54of the anger of Shiv Sena workers
34:57and supporters of Eknath Shinde
34:59who say that this is absolutely not a joke
35:02and this is an insult.
35:04They are offended over this.
35:06Now here's what has happened.
35:07Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra
35:09is not a stranger to controversy
35:11but this time for one of his modified songs,
35:13a popular filmy song,
35:15that he has now changed adding to
35:17targeting one of the ministers,
35:19a deputy chief minister from the description
35:21clearly looks like Eknath Shinde
35:23and says how he split the party
35:25and brought down the government.
35:27The comedian has stoked a controversy however
35:29because of the latest special.
35:31Shiv Sena seeing red over the song
35:33claiming Shinde has been insulted
35:35and that he was a man who's
35:37raised up, who's come up the political ladder
35:40completely by his own hard work
35:42and is being insulted by Kunal Kamra.
35:44They vandalized the property,
35:46the comedy club where Kamra had performed.
35:48They are demanding action against him.
35:50Sena workers burnt Kamra posters also.
35:53Right outside the comedy club
35:55where he had performed.
35:57Now the comedian also reportedly has been booked
35:59for this joke song on Shinde
36:01after a complaint was filed
36:03by the Shiv Sena Neta.
36:05However for now because of the vandalism
36:0720 people have been booked.
36:09A Sena youth worker has been detained by the Mumbai police
36:11but the Shiv Sena leaders
36:13continue to hit out en masse
36:15against Kamra.
36:17They are saying that Shinde is a self-made leader,
36:19drove an auto, went on to lead Maharashtra
36:21by public mandate
36:23and this is classist arrogance.
36:25Shiv Sena leaders are also alleging that he's being
36:27funded and supported by the UBT Sena.
36:29That's why he's making all these remarks.
36:31Uddhav Sena meanwhile claims
36:33only an insecure coward
36:35would react to even a song.
36:37He says that they're saying that
36:39Kamra's song is completely true.
36:41Aditya Thackeray called the vandalism
36:43a bid to undermine Chief Minister Fadnavis
36:45and Shinde.
36:48This is the
36:50on the ground floor of this particular building
36:52is a hotel and above that was a
36:54studio wherein the recording
36:56of the Kunal Kamra's video
36:58had taken place. According to
37:00Mumbai police around
37:027.38 this video
37:04was uploaded and soon
37:06after around 10.30 when news
37:08of this video wherein
37:10a remark was made against
37:12Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
37:14was uploaded. At that time
37:16you know about 15 to 20
37:18Shiv Sena's just barged into this place.
37:20You know you can see this entire hotel
37:22the glass sheets were
37:24broken. The reception was
37:26vandalized and they went inside
37:28and ransacked the
37:30entire place. The police has been deployed
37:32right outside since then. The
37:34barricading of this place has been done to make sure
37:36that no one really enters
37:38and you know
37:40the crime scene
37:42is intact so that
37:44the investigation can go further. Right
37:46here is all the goods that have
37:48been laid down by after cleaning
37:50up the entire studio that
37:52has been kept here. So certainly
37:54the
37:56hotel people as well
37:58as the studio in charge
38:00they are trying to make sure that this
38:02entire you know studio
38:04and the hotel get back
38:06to normalcy so that the business
38:08can be conducted. But at
38:10this juncture yes the investigation by Mumbai
38:12Police is of prime importance in
38:14both these cases. One that is
38:16being registered against
38:18Kunal Kamra and the one that is
38:20registered against the Shiv Sena
38:22for vandalizing this location.
38:24With cameraman Siddhesh in Mumbai, Vidya for
38:26India Today. My party's founder
38:28Balasaheb Thackeray
38:30was himself a cartoonist
38:32a caricaturist
38:34so that's one
38:36part. But
38:38elitist and
38:40classist people who
38:42are disguised as comedians
38:44and pose as comedians
38:46I think they need to be called out
38:48and yesterday what we
38:50saw was a crass attempt
38:52to help
38:54distract and take
38:56attention away
38:58from a legal matter
39:00that's troubling
39:02the UBT party
39:04and essentially to become
39:06elitist and
39:08praise and support those
39:10who the country has completely
39:12rejected. The country has
39:14completely rejected a monarchical
39:16way of operating political parties
39:18where they are run as family
39:20run enterprises. In my opinion
39:22these are not comedians, these are elitist
39:24classist people
39:26and who are completely disconnected
39:28from political reality.
39:30I don't
39:32think that you should
39:34just go to any extent
39:36for your own publicity.
39:38What Kunal has done is
39:40the lowest of low
39:42because Eknath Shinde is not some
39:44ordinary leader. He is a
39:46mass leader, has been the
39:48Chief Minister of Maharashtra,
39:50is the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra
39:52and if you cannot
39:54understand that freedom
39:56of expression
39:58cannot be accepted
40:00as freedom of vulgarity
40:02then there's bound to be a backlash
40:04because look at the kind of supporters
40:06that Eknath Shinde
40:08has. They are going to hit
40:10back if you do not understand
40:12and comprehend that with
40:14freedom of expression comes a sense
40:16of responsibility.
40:18Questions, satire
40:20is welcome if it is based
40:22on work but to use words
40:24like gaddar, to say
40:26Devendra Fadnavis ke godi me jaa
40:28ke baithe hain, this is not
40:30acceptable and if you cannot
40:32respect the sentiments of
40:34all the Shiv Sainiks
40:36then I think that
40:38the time has come for him to also
40:40wrap up his comedy and treat it
40:42as a tragedy.
41:02UBT wale

43:06yaha bhi tod phud hui
43:08aur yaha ki tod phud jyada durbhagya phud hai
43:10kyunki yaha police bhi sathme dikhai di rahe hai
43:12Kunal Kamran ne agar koi aisi baat kahi hai
43:14jisse aapko apatti hai
43:16toh aap samvidhanik prakriya ke antargat aakar
43:18kam kariye
43:20Kunal Kamran ne kya kiya

43:24uspe wo tipni karte hai
43:26aur agar
43:28stand-up comedy se itni taklif hai
43:30wahan ki bhaasha se itni taklif hai

43:34AI bhi humne dekha hai
43:36uske baad me humne kuch aur
43:38us tariki ke program dekhe hai
43:40toh tipni se itna darna kyu
43:42ye toh freedom of speech ke khilaf hai
43:44ye toh samvidhan ke khilaf hai
43:46Staying with Maharashtra
43:48I now take you to Nagpur
43:50because what is the city
43:52looking like a week since
43:54that mob violence, vandalism
43:56and arson
43:58we are told that curfew is being lifted
44:00from most parts of the city
44:02and the situation is returning to normalcy
44:04here's what has happened though
44:06remember 7 days after the mob violence
44:08that was witnessed all caught on camera
44:10the decision has been made after the law enforcement agencies
44:12reviewed the situation
44:14but police patrol will continue
44:16atleast in sensitive areas along with
44:18the rest of the police
44:20opposition is training guns
44:22meanwhile at Devendra Fadnavis Sarkar
44:24questioning the deteriorating law and order
44:26in the state as they say
44:28amid all of this, amid the political showdown
44:30RSS leader
44:32Dattatreya Hausabale has weighed in
44:34on the row and he has criticized
44:36the advocates of the Ganga, Jamuna,
44:38Tehzeeb culture
44:40he's saying that it's basically this
44:42culture that made an icon
44:44even of a brutal emperor
44:46Aurangzeb while overlooking
44:48his own brother Dara Shikoh
44:50who in fact had championed
44:52social harmony in reality
45:16Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
45:18to table the final report
45:20in front of the assembly
45:22as well as to the people of the
45:24state and to the people of Nagpur
45:26who have been largely peaceful
45:28they've never seen this kind of a communal violence
45:30and why
45:32tempers rose to such an extent
45:34that gave way to rumours
45:36that gave way to violence
45:38that gave way to people
45:40saying that this is a
45:42communal violence
45:44that gave way to rumours
45:46that gave way to violence
45:48is something that the Home Minister
45:50will need to explain to the state of Maharashtra
45:52it is a politics that suits the Bharatiya Janata Party
45:54however you have taken Maharashtra
45:56into a totally different trajectory
45:58which is unfortunate
46:00and I think once we have all the details
46:02all those who are guilty of spreading these rumours
46:04spreading these lies
46:06and taking law in their own hand
46:08should get the severest punishment possible
46:10Alright on that note
46:12for now stay tuned
46:14news and updates continue on the other side as well
