00:00A soldier quickly buried his comrade in the dirt and pulled a dead body over himself for cover.

00:04The enemy passed by, stepping right near his comrade's face.

00:08Suddenly, an enemy turned around and plunged a knife into the body covering him.

00:11After the enemy left, he hastily pushed aside the body and dug out his buried comrade.

00:16He noticed another surviving soldier in the distance and was about to help him when he was spotted by the enemy.

00:21He quickly dove into a tunnel, but an enemy grenade followed him inside.

00:24Luckily, Doss reacted just in time to avoid it.

00:26In the dark and sinister tunnels, Doss ducked in the narrow passageways surrounded by enemies.

00:31He even encountered an injured enemy soldier.

00:33Instead of killing him, Doss tended to his wounds.

00:35The enemy stared at him in disbelief.

00:37As night fell, Doss crawled out of the tunnel and continued searching for survivors.

00:41With his weakened frame, he pulled one badly wounded soldier after another from certain death, even enemies.

00:46Soon, exhaustion set in.

00:47His legs grew weak and his hands trembled uncontrollably, but he dared not stop.

00:51His comrade still needed him.

00:52He prayed,

00:53Let me save just one more.

00:55After saving another, he pleaded again,

00:57God, let me save one more.

00:58The rough ropes chafed his hands raw as casualties kept coming down from the ridge above.

01:03No one understood where these wounded men were coming from.

01:05They only knew there was a lunatic up on the hillside saving lives non-stop.

01:09The captain watched in disbelief and asked who this lunatic was.

01:12The answer he received,

01:13Doss, the same inexperienced private he had mocked earlier.

01:17By dawn, Doss found his wounded drill sergeant, while enemy troops continued to sweep the area.

01:21He grabbed the man's weapon, which the sergeant thought was for target practice.

01:25But instead, Doss wrapped it in a cloth and motioned for him to climb on.

01:28The sergeant provided cover fire as they reached the cliff's edge.

01:31Doss lowered him first, but the sergeant immediately shouted back up to the captain.

01:35Doss was still under fire.

01:37In an instant, Doss appeared again with another wounded man slung over his shoulder.

01:41Enemy troops tried to pursue but were quickly repelled by friendly forces.

01:44Doss had made it out alive.

01:46When he was finally rescued, because of his intense concentration, he still immersed in the battlefield.

01:52Doss could barely stand.

01:54The captain gently asked if he was hurt.

01:56Tears welled up in Doss's eyes.

01:58He couldn't say a word.

01:59All the soldiers stood silently, paying their respects as this hero returned from hell.

02:03Doss likely didn't realize it himself, but that night alone, he had saved 75 lives.
