00:00On Sunday, Ecuadorian presidential candidates began the electoral campaign for the second
00:15round of elections.
00:23The Yemeni army launched an attack against the main airport of Israel in solidarity with
00:28the Palestinian people and after receiving strikes by US weaponry.
00:36And on Sunday, the Russian army liberated the locality of Strypnoe in the Donetsk region
00:42from under the Ukrainian regime's occupation.
00:50Hello and welcome from the south, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:55We begin with the news.
01:10The National Electoral Council of Ecuador modified the calendar of the second round
01:15of elections and moved forward the official start of the campaign to Sunday, March 23,
01:21the same day of the debate between the candidates.
01:24The current president of Ecuador and candidate for National Democratic Action, ADN, Daniel
01:29Novoa and the candidate of the Citizens' Revolution movement, Luisa González, face
01:34again on Sunday in a debate for the ballotage to be held next April 13.
01:40In 2023, during the first debate, González came as a favourite after being in first place
01:46in the first round with 33.61% of the votes against Novoa's 23.47%, although it was
01:55he who ended up winning the election in the second round.
01:59On Sunday's debate, education, health and social security, crime and security, economy
02:05and employment, as well as governance, will be the issues to be discussed in the mandatory
02:11meeting.
02:18In this context, let's recall the trajectory of the two presidential candidates running
02:22in the second round of Ecuadorian elections, among them current president Daniel Novoa,
02:27who is opting to be re-elected.
02:28Precisely, Novoa, the son of billionaire Álvaro Novoa Pontón and candidate for the National
02:34Democratic Action Party, obtained 44.17% of votes in first round of elections.
02:42During his term in office, he has used presidential decrees to militarise the streets and facilitate
02:48the security of businessmen in the ports.
02:51His administration has been marked by a multidimensional crisis in the political sphere, but also bringing
02:58about economic recession, high levels of insecurity and energy deficit.
03:04His previous electoral campaign was characterised by the violation of constitutional status
03:09and the lack of compliance with electoral regulations.
03:12Furthermore, in a desperate measure, Novoa militarised the northern and southern borders
03:18in the middle of his past electoral run under the pretext of fighting armed groups.
03:29Luisa González, a 47-year-old lawyer and former assemblywoman, is seeking the presidency
03:34of Ecuador in the April 13th round of elections, backed by tight results during the first round
03:41and strong popular support.
03:43González has two master's degrees, one in senior management from the Institute of
03:49National High Studies and another in international economics from the Complutense University
03:55of Madrid.
03:56With 44% of votes obtained in the first round of presidential elections, González proposes
04:01a government focused on five axes – justice for good living, security and order, economic
04:08well-being with equal opportunities, the fight against corruption and ecological justice
04:14and energy transition for a clean and sustainable future.
04:18Representing progressive social and leftist forces, Luisa González has expressed her
04:23commitment to the real needs of the people, vowing to ensure access to health, education
04:29and giving out credits to encourage youth and temple worship.
04:38In other news, in Colombia, over 60,000 people have been displaced by the escalation of violence
04:44in the Catatumbo region.
04:46The government of North Santander assured that 772 people from Catatumbo had to be rescued
04:53in humanitarian flights due to the difficult access to the zones where the confrontations
04:58have taken place.
04:59He also warned that more than 16,000 people are confined to their homes in the area where
05:05the conflict is taking place.
05:07The clashes between armed groups, which began on January 16, 2025, have killed over 90 people,
05:14among them civilians, miners, peace signatories and social leaders.
05:23The government of El Salvador started to receive alleged members of a Venezuelan criminal organization
05:29expelled from the United States.
05:32Last Sunday, the government of El Salvador received the first deputies from the United
05:36States, 238 members of the Tren de Aragua gang and 23 members of the Salvadoran gang
05:43Mara Salvatrucha.
05:45These deportations respond to the anti-immigrant policy implemented by the president of the
05:50United States, Donald Trump.
05:52In the next few days, the list of deputies that El Salvador is receiving could multiply
05:57as the White House announced that on Tuesday it will revoke the residency permits of half
06:03a million migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti and Venezuela.
06:12In Panama, workers announced new mobilizations against neoliberal measures.
06:18Venezuelan trade union leaders announced a program of struggle in rejection of Law
06:23462 that reforms the Social Security Fund.
06:27During a press conference, they announced that this Sunday organizations will resume
06:32their mobilizations and will congregate on the so-called Cinta Costera, an action that
06:37will be complemented with an interaction with social networks.
06:42On Saturday 30th, a national meeting of leaders will be held to discuss future fighting actions.
06:48Law 462 increases the retirement age by three years, provides for the privatization of the
06:55Social Security Fund and allows its funds to be turned over to the banks and pension
07:00management companies.

07:53The Yemeni army launched an attack against the main airport of Israel in solidarity with
07:58the Palestinian people and after receiving strikes by US weaponry against its civilians
08:03and military infrastructure.
08:05After the strike to the Ben Gurion International Airport, conducted using a hypersonic ballistic
08:11missile, the Yemeni Houthis assured they will continue attacking Tel Aviv until the
08:16end of the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip.
08:20In this context, the Yemenis also confirmed an action with drones and missiles against
08:24the US aircraft carrier and several warships of the enemy army in the Red Sea.
08:30Tensions in the region have further escalated amid continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire
08:37and US support for the occupation and displacement of the Palestinian territories.
08:48Yemen will continue to support the Palestinian people and prevent Israeli navigation in the
08:53previously announced area of operations until the aggression ceases and the siege on the
08:57Gaza Strip is lifted.
09:02In Palestine, at least 30 people were killed and dozens wounded during overnight Israeli
09:07army attacks on the Gaza Strip and as part of the Zionist genocidal campaign.
09:12The total blockade imposed in the enclave has lasted 22 days, aggravating the humanitarian
09:17situation.
09:18Wafa News Agency reported that three citizens were killed and others were wounded when occupation
09:25forces shelled a vehicle east of Kanchanis.
09:28On the same day, an Israeli airstrike on displaced persons killed two citizens in the
09:33Tal al-Sultan neighbourhood west of Wafa.
09:37Since Tuesday morning, the Israeli occupation has resumed its genocidal aggression in the
09:42Gaza Strip, which as of Thursday night had caused approximately 600 martyrs and more
09:48than 1,000 wounded, most of whom are children, women and the elderly.
09:59The Palestinian Center for Human Rights accused Israel of using the lack of water as a weapon
10:05to make the Gaza Strip inhospitable.
10:08The organization warned that the humanitarian disaster in the region threatens the lives
10:12of over 2 million people as they do not have access to basic supplies such as clean and
10:18safe water.
10:19In this sense, the organization informed that the water and wastewater treatment infrastructures
10:25had been severely affected due to the Israeli bombings.
10:28The entity further stressed that Tel Aviv's decision to cut off the electricity supply
10:33to a desalinated nation plant in Gaza aggravated the humanitarian crisis.
10:39Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced that these actions were
10:43part of the ethnic cleansing campaign to wipe Palestinians off the map.
10:55France, Germany and the United Kingdom expressed their concern over renewed Israeli attacks
11:01on Gaza and called for an immediate return to the truce.
11:05The three countries urged Israel to fully respect international law and allow immediate
11:10humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.
11:12In a joint statement, they stressed that the resumption of Israeli attacks is a dramatic
11:17setback for the people of Gaza, the hostages, their families and the entire region.
11:22On the other hand, on the statement, it was emphasized that the civilian population has
11:27the right to have peace and security, stressing that the conflict cannot be resolved by military
11:33means as this will only lead to the death of more Palestinian civilians and Israeli hostages.
11:45At least seven people killed and 40 others wounded in Israeli attacks on dozens of villages
11:50in southern Lebanon on Saturday.
11:52According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, the deadliest attack took place in the city
11:56of Tulin, where five people were killed, including a girl, while 11 were injured, including two
12:02children.
12:03Israel carried out this series of attacks on the pretext of rocket fire from Lebanese
12:08territory.
12:09However, the Hezbollah movement denied any involvement and experts call it a false flag
12:15attack.
12:16The ceasefire truce, which came into effect on last November 27, has been violated almost
12:22daily by the Israeli regime, despite constant appeals by the Lebanese authorities to respect
12:28the agreement.
12:35Dozens of people mobilized in Israel in rejection of the mishandling of the hostage crisis by
12:41the Netanyahu's government.
12:42Demonstrators gathered outside of the Prime Minister's residence in Jerusalem to manifest
12:48their disagreement with the measures implemented by the cabinet.
12:52The demonstrators affirmed that they have lost confidence in the country's cabinet
12:56and demanded that the hostages in Gaza should be returned to their families as soon as possible.
13:02On the other hand, the citizens rejected the order issued by the Israeli Prime Minister
13:08Netanyahu to dismiss the head of the country's internal security service, Ronen Barr, after
13:13accusing him of being responsible for several events.
13:17On Sunday, the Russian army liberated the locality of Srin Pnoy in the Donetsk region.
13:41The Russian Defense Ministry reported that in the last 24 hours there was fighting in
13:45the settlement and in other places on the front line.

13:56They also confirmed the destruction of armored vehicles, automobiles, artillery, including
14:01a French-made Caesar hot visor.
14:09The Russian Defense Ministry also announced that the army had shot down some 59 Ukrainian
14:13drones in the southwest of the country.
14:16The ministry reportedly had shot down 29 unmanned aerial vehicles in Rostov region, 20 in Astrakhan,
14:23three in Volgograd and other regions.
14:26The entity further denounced that the attacks on civilians in the Astrakhan region left
14:32damage to residential infrastructure, while Ukrainian forces hit to death a woman on their
14:38strikes on Rostov.
14:39The provinces bordering Ukraine denounced the continuous impacts of projectiles and
14:45drone incursions, which forced the population to seek shelter elsewhere.
