00:00Dr. Khan Soodi is a scholar, and to answer your question, yes, I mean, he has made statements
00:13in support of Palestine and made statements in support of the Palestinian people and made
00:18statements critical of the actions of the Israeli government.
00:23It is all 100% protected political speech, and the First Amendment reaches J-1 visa scholars
00:30as well.
00:33Dr. Khan Are you aware of any online statements that
00:40he may have made in support of Hamas specifically?
00:45Because the DHS statement that has been shared with media outlets accuses him of supporting
00:50Hamas online beyond just Palestinian rights.
00:53So are you aware of any pro-Hamas position that he may have taken online?
00:58Dr. Soodi No.
01:02Dr. Khan Coming on the heels of Mahmoud Khalil and
01:10this very rarely used section of law in the Immigration Nationality Act, Section 237A4CI,
01:19which allows the Secretary of State to deport or remove anybody who deems to be bad essentially
01:28for the United States foreign policy.
01:31It's a section of law that I had no familiarity with before Mahmoud Khalil, but I've since
01:35become much more familiar with, and I think all of us are going to become a lot more familiar
01:40with it because it seems that this is going to be a pattern with the Trump administration
01:44as a way to crush dissent.
01:53This was my first time meeting him.
01:54I had no prior connection to Dr. Khan Soodi at all, but when I introduced myself as his
02:00lawyer, the first thing he asked was about his wife to make sure that she was okay.
02:06And then he asked about his kids.
02:07And then what struck me is he asked about his students at Georgetown before he asked
02:14about himself and his own case.
