Protests are erupting across Turkey over the arrest of Istanbul's opposition leader Ekrem Imamoglu, who is accused of aiding a terrorist organization and corruption.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dismissed the protests as "the opposition's dramas" and warned against illegal demonstrations.

The pro-Kurdish Democratic Party has shown support for Mr Imamoglu and called for peace.

His arrest has resulted in a drop in the Turkish lira and stock market.
