00:00this big month in sports betting, and it basically has been called Responsible
00:05Gambling Month. And Sam, these are some staggering numbers, $3 billion out there
00:10in sports bets in a very short period of time. They picked a really good month to do it,
00:15I think, with the NCAA tournament, so many games, so many different options.
00:19I mean, you can make the case that outside of football, March Madness is probably the
00:23best time to launch some of this. But what does the awareness mean moving forward?
00:28Yeah, it's definitely no coincidence that when you have a ton of really popular games on and
00:33a ton of tons been going on in front of the camera in front of the scenes with trying to
00:38get people to bet on games and talk about betting that sports books are also going to try to take
00:42it on themselves to really promote the awareness and responsibility around gaming. We've had a
00:47number of people across the industry, number of groups, stakeholders, all doing their part
00:52in states like Connecticut, Arizona and Illinois. They're actually holding a meeting this month
00:57to discuss how as regulators, they can better share and pool resources together because that's
01:02one of the beauties of state by state innovation is you all kind of work on your own. But another
01:07part of that is you can kind of be in your own silo. And so they're trying to break down those
01:12barriers and share, hey, here's what we're doing that's working best in this state. Here's what
01:16we found New Jersey's a big leader on that front as well. They'll be part of that. But they want
01:20to raise awareness around the two and a half million Americans every year that suffer from
01:25severe gambling addiction. And the sports books are trying to raise awareness around that as well.
01:30FanDuel TV just launched a new show with their responsible gaming ambassador Craig Carton,
01:36which is focused on the recovery aspect of this and reducing the stigma around problem gambling.
01:42Another big barrier kind of in talking about this as being it's okay to talk about this. It's okay.
01:47And Craig Carton certainly has his own story that he's going to share with listeners there.
01:51DraftKings is rolling out another responsible gaming campaign, this time,
01:55renewing their commitment to states and the funding that they give states to kind of develop
01:59their own tools and resources. Again, when we talk about this stuff, it's very much of
02:04how we can address it, what we can do to get better, what we can do to figure it out,
02:07as opposed to kind of all having this magic answer. And then on top of that,
02:11all the sports books, I think we talked about earlier this year, have all formed this coalition
02:16called the Responsible Online Gambling Association, which is basically, again,
02:20all trying to pool their resources, share lists. If someone gets excluded on one app,
02:25automatically exclude them from another and figure out how best to provide their customers
02:29who are suffering with the resources to recover. And again, especially crucial right now,
02:34when you have the NCAA tournament, there's a ton of great basketball and there's a ton of
02:37great betting to talk about. But again, we have to talk about the important
02:40aspects of it as well, the really serious stuff with responsible gaming.
