00:10The lead counsel of former President Rodrigo Duterte confirmed that his defense team is now complete.

00:16There is no name yet, but Vice President Sarra Duterte said that the father is free and can go home.

00:23Marizo Mali has a report.

00:24We've finalized a team. It's going to be a core team of a maximum of five members and we'll be appointing other people to assist us on a needs-based basis.

00:38The defense team of former President Rodrigo Duterte is now complete, according to his lead counsel, Atty. Nicholas Kaufman.

00:45Atty. Kaufman did not say who will be included in the defense team, but he confirmed that a Filipino will be a part of it.

00:52For now, Vice President Duterte and Atty. Kaufman are focusing on getting the former president to go home.

00:59Part of the plan is to ask for a petition for his interim release.

01:03Why not? That's his country. That's where he was born. Why should he not go back?

01:08As far as I'm concerned, he's being illegally detained here and he should go back to the Philippines as soon as possible.

01:13Vice President Duterte said that they will do everything to get the former president to go home, who is running for mayor of Davao City.

01:19I also want to demand that our mayor works for the city.

01:26If we don't think about how we can get our mayor there, nothing will happen.

01:33We exhaust all means possible, whether it is written in law or it is not written in law, except anything illegal.

01:45Vice President Sara mentioned yesterday that they are studying the request for legal aid from the ICC.

01:52Kaufman said that the ICC Office of the Public Council does not need assistance or service for the defense.

01:58There's no need for the OPCD. I think that's the unit you're referring to.

02:02They're a very important unit at this court, but they provide logistic assistance, administrative assistance,

02:07but they don't provide substantive assistance to any team at the court, whether it be legally aided or privately funded.

02:12People love the former president, and I'm sure that they would pay out of their own pockets in order to ensure that he has the proper defense.
