00:00In Cuba the fourth edition of the Patria International Colloquium closed on Wednesday in Havana after three days of
00:06discussions on the role of technologies, the counter-hegemonic media. Our correspondent Belén de los Santos has more details.
00:16The fourth edition of the Patria International Colloquium came to a close in Havana
00:21after fostering three days of debate on the impact of technologies in media communications and
00:27the role in the construction of counter-hegemonic narratives from the global south.
00:35We're seeing a massive lack of information,
00:38disinformation and it's so important that we can unite here to really work on this fight back the resistance and to use social media and
00:46media communications in general as a crucial tool to really challenge the
00:51imperialist narratives that have prevailed for years and years.
00:58Hosted by the University of Havana this year's event gathered more than 400 delegates from
01:0547 countries under the slogan
01:07We are people's weaving networks, a space for communicators and experts to interact and share their collective experiences
01:14through workshops, panels and conferences, tying the bonds of solidarity and international cooperation.
01:28It's the second time I come here and
01:33the reason why I came again is because I think it's a one of the most beautiful experiences that you can
01:41you can
01:43attend for
01:45meeting
01:47people
01:49mainly from the global south that are
01:52working in
01:54sometimes in very hard conditions and
01:57that are working with a very brave approach for
02:02social justice.
02:08This year's event was dedicated to Latin American multi-platform Telesur on its 20th anniversary
02:15highlighting the media outlet's trajectory focused on giving voice to the peoples of the global south in the fight against
02:22misinformation. To this purpose Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited Telesur's exhibition at Patria and
02:29congratulated the multimedia on its continuous effort to carry on the legacy of the revolutionary leaders of our America.
02:42Telesur is the result of their work
02:46Chavez and
02:47Fidel Castro and what better way to honor him 20 years later by this event, which not only includes
02:55journalists from we normally see from Latin America. I'm impressed how over the last few years
03:02especially with Patricia and other comments at the head of Telesur, they develop links with important countries.
03:10At the closing event Telesur honored President Díaz-Canel, also Cuban Revolutionary Leader Raúl Castro, and
03:17Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro with the Telesur citizenship for their commitment to the truth of their peoples.
03:30Those who believe that another world beats within these south of ours, your legacy, our
03:36unbreakable Cuba, indomitable Raúl, hopeful Venezuela is our signal in the air, truth is non-negotiable,
03:42sovereignty is not for sale, joy is rebellion. Telesur, like you three, does not forget, does not get tired,
03:52does not fear, the Patria Grande embraces you.
04:07The Colloquium closed with a final declaration on the importance of strengthening counter-automatic media worldwide,
04:13urging media outlets to push for a new technological world order that prioritizes the global well-being above imperialist interests
04:21and guarantees universal access to technology. Next year's edition, which will be dedicated to Cuban Revolutionary Leader Fidel Castro
04:29on his 100th anniversary, is called to make the collaborative process set in motion in 2025 a reality.
