00:00Hi Prithvi, this is Anitha here.
00:02Secondly, I want to know like Mohanlal just, you know, complimented you for the amazing
00:08director that you are.
00:09Even Raja Mouli sir recently, you know, after watching the action, he called it a blockbuster.
00:15I want to know how does it feel when Star Wars like them, you know, compliments you
00:19and does it boost your, you know, morale to do more work like this?
00:24Obviously, for sure.
00:26I mean, for my generation, especially for my generation, the reason we are in cinema
00:32must be Mohanlal sir and Mammootty sir to a very, very big extent.
00:37Because we grew up watching them, we, I grew up trying to walk like him, you know, I grew
00:42up trying to talk like Mammootty sir.
00:44My dad was an actor, but from a previous generation.
00:47So when I was in my conscience of being able to be influenced by art forms and cinema,
00:54you know, it was just these two guys absolutely ruling the roost, like they are today.
00:59So they are hugely responsible in us getting inspired to be involved with a medium of cinema.
01:06So how privileged am I that today I'm sitting next to him, having directed him thrice.
01:11And for him to say such kind words about me as a filmmaker is sort of the biggest award
01:17I can I can ever hope to get.
01:19You know, I like a couple of days back, I had the privilege of meeting Rajini sir and
01:24showing him the trailer.
01:27And in fact, I had an opportunity to make a film with him, which I which I couldn't
01:31pull off at that moment.
01:33But the way he spoke to me, what he told me about my work, what he told me after having
01:38watched the first part, Lucifer, those are things that I will forever cherish.
01:43If you ask me how many awards have I won, I don't remember.
01:46But these things I'll never forget.
01:48So of course, I mean, these are priceless for me.
01:50Even, you know, how is he Mohanlal sir as an actor?
01:54He's even naughtier than me.
01:55Is he a director's actor?
01:56Oh, absolutely.
01:57I mean, it's a, I don't know how to explain this.
02:05Sometimes I think it will be amazing for my friends in the media to actually come and
02:12see the process of an actor like Mr. Mohanlal, or for that matter, Mr. Mammootty, because
02:18I've worked with him as well, not as a director, but as an actor.
02:20I think it gives you so much insight into how an absolute top of the line actor goes
02:27through his process or her process, like Manju, for example.
02:31I was, you know, Manju, like, sitting here, like, she's one of us, but she's a legend
02:37in her own, you know, like, I remember, I think what's about 20, 20 years back, maybe,
02:44I was doing an interview for some channel in Tamil Nadu, and they had asked me, if you
02:51ever direct a film, and I had no plans of directing, they asked me, if you ever direct
02:55a film sometime in your life, who do you cast in it?
02:58I said, Mohanlal and Manju Warrier, you know, I did, I did that interview, I'm assuming
03:03would still be in online.
03:05And here I am, I'm, I've cast Mohanlal and Manju Warrier, so it's, it's, it's a privilege.
03:11And my, my wonderful cast from Hindi cinema, a large part of this film happens in North
03:16India.
03:17So a large part of this film has Hindi as its language of communication.
03:22And I'm very particular that all five linguistic versions of the film will retain Hindi where
03:27Hindi is being spoken.
03:28I'm very particular about that, because that very much forms, that part of the film very
03:32much forms the core flavor of what the narrative is about.
03:36So because of that, I wanted to make sure that I cast the absolute best actors I can
03:41find from Hindi cinema.
03:43And two of the finest decisions that I have made in terms of casting for this film, is
03:48Abhimanyu Singh and Sukant Goyal.
03:50Sukant is here, right?
03:51Sukant?
03:52No, he's left.
03:53Yeah, that's like him.
03:54Anyway, so it's Abhimanyu Singh and Sukant Goyal, it's, they, they play central characters
04:00in my film.
04:01Yeah, they, Abhimanyu plays a central character in my film.
04:05And I have to tell you, the first person who told me, listen, I think this guy should
04:10be played by Abhimanyu Singh, is my writer, Murali Gopi.
04:14And which is when I revisited a film, I don't know if I'm saying it right, Gulal, Gulal.
04:21My God, I mean, why is this?
04:24I mean, why are you guys not?
04:27What an actor this guy is, man.
04:28I mean, I had, it was a joy to shoot him.
04:31It was an absolute joy to film with him.
04:34And you'll see why when you see the film, you'll see why when you see the film, Nikhat,
04:38you know, very, she, I know, I know you're in my film for very, very little while.
04:44But you know how important you are in the film and what you say is for the film.
04:50It was a privilege to have you on location.
04:51I did not know she was Amritsar's sister.
04:54I am, you know, I know Amritsar quite well.
04:57So finally, when the audition tapes came through, and Priyata is here, my casting director,
05:02and I said, I'd like her.
05:03When I saw her audition, I said, I want her.
05:05Priyata, oh yeah, she's wonderful.
05:06By the way, she's also Amritsar's sister.
05:07I said, really?
05:08So then I called Amritsar.
05:10And I just want to tell you, he just messaged me asking, is my sister good in the film?
05:15Just now.
05:16So I said, sir, she's a lot better than good.
05:19So thank you so much, Shubhangi.
05:21You know, in a film like this, at a scale and at a narrative structure like this, to
05:27have as little screen time as you do, and to make someone tear up, and remember you
05:34even when the film finishes, is just amazing.
05:38My dear grandmom, where is she?
05:41She really doesn't look like my grandmom, but what a performance.
05:45Love you in the film.
05:46I really do.
05:47Because I've seen you guys so many times over and over again while editing on the edit table.
05:51I keep appreciating all the nuances you have brought out in your character.
05:56The finest thing an actor can do is to own the character, bring in your own interpretation
06:00to it, and then surprise the filmmaker and the writer.
06:02You guys have surprised all of us.
06:04Aishwarya, you are in the film for very little while, very, very little while.
06:08But you are the pain that carries the film.
06:10You are the hurt that drives the film.
06:13Thank you for being there.
06:14Thank you for being part of the film.
06:16Behzad, I know you did this like a favor, you know, you needn't have come to my film
06:21and done this role.
06:23But thank you so much for traveling all the way to this remote little village somewhere
06:26north of Shimla that I took a 600 member unit to and shot the scene.
06:31But thank you for coming there.
06:33And thank you for being the character.
06:34And thank you for voicing those lines, because it took an actor like you to say those lines
06:40to convey the fact that what is wrong should be treated and looked upon as wrong.
06:44So thank you for it.
06:47Same way, there are many, many actors in my film who's just given me the most wonderful
06:53performances.
06:54My technical crew, my cinematographer, my production designer, my costume designer,
06:59my makeup man, my editor, my creative director, my associate director, my team of assistants,
07:06my production boys, my light boys.
07:09I do cinema in a way where I believe all of them have equal ownership over my film as
07:15I do.
07:16And, you know, if it were possible, I would have my entire team here, you know, celebrating
07:22the fact that we are closing in on a release.
07:25But yes, it's just been a wonderful, wonderful journey for me.
07:29And I truly believe that making these three films has actually made me a better actor.
07:34Because I have been let into the processes of so many fine actors, so many fine technicians,
07:41and I've learned so much from all of them, all these people together, I think will eventually
07:44make me a very good actor.
