00:00The Agriculture Department is confident that the harvest will be good this year

00:04with the price of rice and onions gradually stabilizing in the market.

00:09The DA hopes that there is no need to rely on importation

00:22The price of onions in the market is falling fast because of its high supply.

00:28Compared to the past, we've lost around P150 to P180 to P200.

00:37Around 3 weeks or 2 weeks.

00:39The price went down so fast.

00:41P42 per kilo of white onions and P100 per kilo of red onions in the public market.

00:47The price of onions in the market is lower than the price of rice in the Department of Agriculture

00:51where the price of onions is stable at P120 per kilo.

00:55P186 metric tons of white onions entered the country

00:59from the expected 1,000 metric tons

01:02while the imported red onions did not enter.

01:05The fear of our friends who plant and harvest onions

01:11is no longer affected because there is no report of imported onions.

01:17Aside from onions, the price of imported rice is also falling.

01:22According to the DA, there are 641,000 metric tons of imported rice as of March 13

01:27which is almost half of what was imported last year at the same time,

01:31which is 1.2 million metric tons.

01:34DA Spokesperson Arnel Demesa said

01:37that the rice is expected to be good this year.

01:40Some of the reasons why the price of rice in the market is falling and stabilizing

01:45is the lifting of the import ban in India on non-basmati white rice.

01:49The DA and DTI will monitor the prices of rice

01:52especially if the maximum suggested retail price is followed

01:56and if agricultural products are caught in the horde.
