Kemi Badenoch warned that the Conservatives would lose “every single” council they won in 2021 if the general election results were applied to May's local elections. The Tory leader acknowledged the party’s “greatest defeat” in history and predicted a tough battle ahead, although she hoped for slightly better results. Report by Covellm. 00:00On the 1st of May, we head to the polls. The last time we fought these local elections
00:07was four years ago. As Nigel said, in 2021, we were riding high during the vaccine bounce.
00:15This year will be different. It will be the first time since the general election,
00:21the greatest defeat in our party's history, that we fight these seats.
00:26And if you mapped that general election result of 2024 onto this coming May,
00:33then we don't win the councils like we won in 2021. We lose almost every single one.
00:42But I think we're going to do a bit better than that. But we know that these elections will be
00:47extremely difficult. We are up for the fight. We are building a gold standard campaign machine.
00:54But we need you and all our brilliant volunteers and supporters
00:58to get out and help. Every leaflet, every conversation, every vote counts.
