00:00Big news coming in from the United States Supreme Court that may reconsider or that
00:04consider Tahawar Rana's application to the Chief Justice John Roberts seeking a stay
00:09on his extradition to India.
00:10Remember Tahawar Rana who is seen as the true conspirator when it comes to 2611 terror attacks
00:16in Mumbai, the massacre of innocent people, over 100 people were killed by Pakistan sent
00:21and sponsored terrorists.
00:23Tahawar Rana's latest application officially has been referred to the US Supreme Court
00:27by a judge, likely to consider application in the first week of April.
00:32So this is a legal process, remember it's a legal option that's available to him.
00:36Tahawar Rana and his legal team are ensuring to do whatever it takes at least legally to
00:41approach the court so that he's not extradited to India because if that happens that means
00:45he'll have to face the book, he'll have to face the law in India and that will be a stringent
00:50measure.
00:51India Today's legal editor Nalini Sharma joins me for the latest this morning.
00:55Nalini tell us more about this application, what does it mean and does that mean that
01:01for now the extradition could be delayed to India?
01:03Well Pooja you remember that earlier in March the Supreme Court had rejected his plea seeking
01:09a stay on his extradition, after which he had made a special request to the Chief Justice
01:15of the US Supreme Court asking for his application to be reconsidered.
01:18So it is this application that is now going to come up in a private chamber conference
01:23of the US Supreme Court judges on the 4th of April, the update that we have is that
01:29the copy of the application along with all other relevant documents has been distributed
01:34to all the judges who are going to be part of the conference on the 4th of April, but
01:38remember it's not necessary that there might be a discussion on Tahawar Rana's application.
01:44The judges might decide to just dismiss it or reject it even without having any discussion
01:49on it.
01:50And keeping in mind the fact that from all earlier courts he's got rejections, it remains
01:56to be seen what the Supreme Court does, but on 4th of April is when it's going to be taken
02:00up and most likely on the next working day which is a Monday is when the court is going
02:05to read out the decision in open court.
02:08So it remains to be seen what happens, but this is the last option that is available
02:13for Tahawar Rana before the US Supreme Court, so if this doesn't go his way then it means
02:18that his expedition will happen without a doubt.
