A vast £1.1 billion extension of the British Library is to go ahead after the project secured the backing of Japanese developer Mitsui Fudosan in a major vote of confidence in London. The ambitious scheme was approved by Camden council in July last year, but was waiting for confirmation from the developers that they were prepared to press ahead. It will create around 100,000 sq ft of new space “for culture, learning, research and business including expanded galleries and business support facilities” at the building next to St Pancras station. There will also be a new foyer and public entrances.
