00:00Mayberry Farm is no stranger to producing world-renowned Grade 1 winners, but one of
00:06their latest graduates in recent Grade 1 Malibu Stakes winner Flightline is one they will
00:10never forget.
00:12We spoke with April Mayberry on the Sun of Tappit, as well as a few Hyde Isle West Point
00:16yearling purchases who are currently in training at Mayberry.
00:20I mean, having Flightline here was, you know, it's just a dream come true to have a horse
00:25like that.
00:27When he first came in, I mean, he was such an impressive looking horse.
00:31He was already 16 hands, I mean, he was beautiful.
00:35Everything he did was just so easy, and he took to it, like he came like a ready-made
00:39horse.
00:40Well, early on, after he had his first breeze, and David and Gordo came down to see him,
00:47and so we were waiting for him to come out, I hear my assistant and my foreman talking,
00:53and I was like, eh, that doesn't sound real good, and Flightline had decided to cut his
01:00hind end on the stall door.
01:02Kim, my assistant, and Isidro, my foreman, they took care of him for, I mean, over two
01:09months every single day, and this horse just never turned a hair.
01:14He didn't care, he knew, you know, everyone was there to help him, and a lot of times
01:19with injuries in horses, a lot is up to the horse on whether they're a good patient or not.
01:24He definitely was like, yep, please fix me, and you know, I'm good.
01:29He was just that kind of a horse, just super intelligent and classy in everything he did.
01:34Gives you chills to watch, and to think that, you know, you were one of the first people
01:39to think that ability was in there, and then to see it come true, it's really cool.
01:45It's a cool feeling.
01:46Flightline, a superstar, is dominating the run Happy Malibu, and he's going to turn this
01:52into his easiest win yet.
01:55Flightline, jogging home under Flavien Pratt, wins by a distance.
02:03So we have four horses associated with West Point, two City of Lights, Anchorage is the
02:10and Miss Mo'Kelly is a filly, which are two stunning horses, they're both beautiful.
02:16And then we have two Justifies, Flaming Heart and True Feeling.
02:22The City of Light Anchorage is, he's just another, he's just such a cool dude.
02:27And he came in, he's extremely classy, and quiet, and takes a nap every day, and just
02:35another horse, just does everything he's supposed to do.
02:38True Feelings, again, with the Justify, he was a little peppier in his step.
02:44Very full of himself, very confident.
02:47And once he was broke and got on the track, he really, he calmed down, and it looks like
02:50he really enjoys training, which again, is something I want to see.
02:55I don't like to compare any horses, because they're all different.
02:57I mean, they all, whether it's ability, personality, you know, obviously looks, they're all so
03:04different, and the one thing they all have in common is intelligence.
03:09And they have to want to do it.
03:11I mean, they can have all the ability in the world, and if they don't, if they don't want
03:14to do this, they're not going to.
03:17And that's it.
03:18So that's the key, getting them to want to do it.
03:21And most of the time, it's natural.
03:24It takes a team from, you know, the start to the finish, from the breeding end of it,
03:29to the trainers, and obviously the clients, and the horses are the heart and soul of it.
03:35A happy horse.
03:36The happier they are, the more they'll do for you.
03:39And that's kind of our core philosophy.
03:41If we can make everything happy for them, and easy for them, and pay attention to them,
03:46you know, the rest falls into place like it's supposed to.
