00:00Not because West Virginia got a rough deal from the selection committee or really, really, really got in a way that I had not seen in a very long time.
00:10Yeah, that's the word, I guess. I don't like to use the word, but it's it's I have not seen anything quite like that in a very, very long time.
00:19I thought that the committee got a lot wrong.
00:22Well, maybe a lot is strong.
00:24I thought the seating of Louisville was absurd.
00:27The exclusion of West Virginia was ridiculous.
00:31The inclusion of of Carolina was indefensible on any level.
00:36There is no there is they have zero qualifications to be in this tournament.
00:40I'm not I'm not and I am not exaggerating.
00:43I mean, zero qualifications to be in this tournament.
00:46But but in in the sense that they knocked out or someone knocked out West Virginia, which had every reason to believe that they would be in, that was really wrong.
00:56How in God's name did they win six quad one games, five of them on the road?
01:04They beat five ranked teams this year.
01:08And then this team wins one game in quad one and nothing else on their resume to speak of.
01:15And what did they give?
01:16Did they give them credit for pulling within three of Duke?
01:19And that's why they got in.
01:20How did West Virginia get shafted and how did North Carolina get in?
01:25Other than corruption?
01:27I'll say this.
01:28I do wonder whether they would have mounted a case for them if that game if they had stayed buried, if it had been the embarrassment that the first half was.
01:37I do wonder about that because it was the first half was was agony for people who were Carolina fans and for people who just want to see a competitive basketball game because it was not.
01:48But I what bothered me the most was the absolute absence of real achievement.
01:57Scott, they have a ranking.
01:59The NCAA does called the net.
02:01It is a predictive metric.
02:03How do you perform?
02:05Not necessarily whether you win or lose, but how did you perform?
02:08And they they did.
02:11They beat one team inside the top 40 of that ranking one team all year long.
02:16That's all they beat.
02:17They it's the same team that that's the one in the in the quad win system.
02:22They beat one team, one team and lost 12 in quad one.
02:26They beat one team in the field.
02:27It all comes down to beating UCLA.
02:30That's it. And if UCLA had made some free throws and had not fumbled the ball out of bounds under pressure, they wouldn't even have that.
02:38And so so coming close against Duke, you said, well, we came close.
02:42Why? You also came close to losing the only game you won.
02:46So I I really was disappointed.
02:50Scott, they've done they've done such great things at the NCAA relative to that committee and build up a ton of credibility over the course of the last 15 years or so, allowing people to see how it works, bringing people like me in to see how what the system, how the system works and and to understand it.
03:08They've not not just people like me, but reporters from all around the country got to go through this extra exercise they called the mock selection experience.
03:16And and you really learned a lot.
03:19And people like David Warlock and Dan Gavitt are among the best people you could ever want to meet who are very involved in the selection process.
03:27They don't make it. They don't vote or anything, but they're there to service the members of the committee.
03:32And they're great people.
03:34And I know I've known tons of members of the committee who put lots of years of work into making this a really believable and credible organization.
03:46And in one weekend, they did damage that had taken 15 years that they damaged.
03:53They damaged a an entity that had taken 15 years to build that credibility.
