00:00Since we're here at the iHeartRadio Music Awards tonight, what do you remember about the first time you heard yourself on the radio?
00:06It was, what, like 10 years ago? 11? In Colombia? In Medellin? And it was pretty insane.
00:14I also remember thinking, I can make a better song than this, but I'm on the radio, so let's do it.
00:20And it was crazy, because I got to do from the get-go the music that I loved.
00:25And it was pop, romantic songs, and they actually got amplified, and people in Spanish started falling in love with love songs again.
00:34And I helped to be a part of that, so that was super exciting.
00:37And now being here, nominated to the iHeartRadio Music Awards is insane too,
00:42because I used to watch these when I was a little kid growing up in Miami,
00:46and I never thought I'd be nominated, especially for Broadway debut.
00:50So, I never thought I'd be on Broadway, I never thought I'd be here.
00:53I'm just amazed by the life surprises, and ready to have some fun tonight.
00:59What was your reaction when you found out you got this nomination?
01:02I didn't really, like, process it at all. I was like, did that happen?
01:08It took me a couple of days to actually be like, what? I got nominated to this?
01:14Especially because Robert Downey Jr.'s picture is right next to mine in the nomination.
01:18I was like, fuck, I gotta beat Iron Man. It's gonna be hard.
01:23What's been the highlight of the Broadway experience for you?
01:26Definitely getting to go and play out there.
01:29For me, the moments where I was able to forget the script and just really live the character
01:37and be out there with some of the best actresses and actors in the world and dancers,
01:42and also the moments where I would go outside in the freezing cold every night,
01:46and there'd be all these fans waiting outside for us to say hi.
01:50That's something that I appreciate a lot, all these people that came out to see me
01:54and all the support from different parts of the world.
01:57What else is coming up for you? Could we see you on the big screen and doing some films anytime soon?
02:02Hopefully. That would be fun.
02:04I'm actually about to release a song on the 20th of March.
02:08It's called La Peli Roja, which means the redhead.
02:11So if there's any redheads out there, that's your song.
02:14And it's a beautiful song that also reflects some of the stuff that's gonna be going on in my next album,
02:19which is gonna come out soon, and I'm excited to finally announce it
02:23because it's been three years since I released an album.
02:26So yeah, my fans are excited. I'm super excited.
02:29How would you say performing on Broadway compares to performing a concert for your fans?
02:35There's a lot less room to mess up on Broadway.
02:38In your own concerts, you can mess up and get away with it a little bit more.
02:43Here, not at all.
02:45Also, that big difference is that when you're doing songs, I'm more in my element, singing the song, etc.
02:50But on Broadway, first of all, you're mic'd up here, but there's no effects you can put on your voice or anything.
02:59It's all completely live, and you're going from singing to scenes, in and out.
03:04And these texts are so long, especially the character I did, Billy Flynn, on Chicago.
03:09He's making things up as he goes, and it has to look natural, and he has to have this very high energy.
03:17But for me, that was fun, too, because I got to play,
03:20and I've always been one of those people that just go kind of crazy with life,
03:24so there I got to be crazy and be myself.
