00:00Two NASA astronauts who have been stuck on the International Space Station for nine months
00:06are finally on their way back to Earth.
00:09Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams left the ISS early on Tuesday morning aboard a SpaceX capsule.
00:16Weather permitting, they're expected to splash down off the Florida coast by early evening
00:20local time.
00:22The pair thought they'd be in space for around a week after launching on Boeing's new Starliner
00:26crew capsule on the 5th of June.
00:29But a raft of technical problems meant that NASA eventually sent the Starliner back empty
00:34and transferred the test pilots to SpaceX, pushing their homecoming into February.
00:39Then SpaceX capsule issues added another month's delay.
00:43Sunday's arrival of the relief crew meant Wilmore and Williams could finally leave.
00:48Their plight captured the world's attention and while other astronauts have logged longer
00:52stays in space, none saw the length of their mission expand by so much.
00:57Both retired Navy captains, Wilmore and Williams, stressed they didn't mind spending more time
01:02in space but acknowledged it was tough on their families.
