Tinanong ang Palasyo kung papalitan ba ang SolGen na may koneksyon sa nakaraang administrasyon.

00:00Because the Office of the Solicitor General turned down a lawyer for the government,

00:06the Department of Justice refused the government's Sabeas Corpus petition to the Supreme Court of the Duterte brothers.

00:14The Palace asked if Soljen, who has a connection to the previous administration, will be replaced.

00:21This is the subject of Salima's reference.

00:24But maybe it would be better if Soljen will be the one to assess himself,

00:31if he deserves to stand as a Solicitor General.

00:36That is the obvious answer to the refusal of Solicitor General Menardo Guevara

00:41to remove the agencies responsible for the petition for Sabeas Corpus

00:46submitted to the Supreme Court by some of the Duterte brothers

00:50in connection with the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

00:55In the solemn manifestation of recusal of the Office of the Solicitor General,

01:00it denied their position that the International Criminal Court in the Philippines has no jurisdiction

01:06and that the justice system in the country is working.

01:09It is also possible that the OSG will not be effective in responding to the case,

01:14including the Department of Justice, DILG, PNP, Bureau of Immigration, and AFP.

01:20The Solicitor General is the standing lawyer of the government

01:23and its agencies in any case or legal process it is facing.

01:28Because Guevara refused the government's refusal of the Sabeas Corpus petition of the Duterte brothers,

01:34the government needs to find another lawyer.

01:37It's very important, it's very significant to get another lawyer who is very competent

01:41and very effective in defending the causes of the government.

01:46For now, the Department of Justice will serve as the lawyer of the government in this case.

02:17When asked if Guevara will be replaced because of what he did, Malacanang said,

02:26In an interview, Guevara said that it is up to the President if he will remain as a Soldier or not.

02:32However, the Office of the Solicitor General is not only the lawyer of the government,

02:36but also the defender of the rights of the citizens.

02:39And the President understands this.

02:42Guevara also said that the cases of the Sabeas Corpus are only a small part of hundreds,

02:47if not thousands of difficult cases that the OSG is handling for the government.

02:53Guevara will remain in command in these cases,

02:57except if the President tells him to step down from his position.
