00:00Good morning and thanks for joining us for Tennessee in 10. I'm Amanda Harrett
00:03WSM via Nashville this morning in the mid state. Several roads closed in
00:07Rutherford County because of flooding. The National Weather Service has
00:11confirmed that an E F one tornado touchdown in Bedford and Rutherford
00:15counties on Saturday. Forecasters say the tornado was 300 yards wide and
00:21lasted on the ground for 4.5 miles. This happened in the Walnut Grove area.
00:26The storm brought 95 MPH winds knocking down trees and damaging
00:31buildings and crews have been busy rescuing people stuck in floodwater
00:35across the mid state. This car got trapped on a flooded road in
00:38Murfreesboro. Four people were inside of that SUV when they were pulled to
00:42safety by the water rescue team and a water raft. Murfreesboro Fire and
00:47Rescue says it only takes a few inches of water to sweep your car off the
00:51road
00:52in the W. V. L. T. Newsroom. I'm Harry Sullivan, a white pine teacher
00:57arrested for assaulting a student. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says
01:0160 year old 60 year old Renee Murphy was arrested for abusing and assaulting
01:06a four year old. Authorities say a school resource officer was told about
01:10the incident between a student and a teacher that led to a joint
01:13investigation will continue to follow this story, bringing the latest as we
01:16get new details.
01:18All right. First floor meteorologist Stefano Di Pietro is joining us with a
01:24look at the forecast. Pretty mild compared to the weekend for most of us
01:28this week. Stefano, maybe one little hiccup Wednesday. Yeah, it looks like
01:31Wednesday. We have a first little weather day coming our way late into
01:34the day and overnight. Now, gusty winds will pick up before thunderstorms end
01:37up coming through, but those daytime wind gusts should be up to an over 30
01:41MPH. Here's the severe threat for late Wednesday and Wednesday night. It
01:46should be mostly Wednesday evening and overnight for a lot of us. Middle and
01:49West Tennessee. It's a low end threat, one out of five on that scale, but
01:53still something we want to watch for you this afternoon. We'll have plenty
01:56of sun fifties and sixties on the board for the high temperature tonight will
02:01drop down to the forties and even a few thirties on the board now in far West
02:05Tennessee will end up in the fifties tomorrow morning, mixing clouds and sun
02:09through the afternoon tomorrow. But we are back in the seventies and then here
02:12comes that cold front late in the day Wednesday, a shower as early as late
02:17Wednesday afternoon in West Tennessee, but really look for that potential for
02:21severe weather toward the evening and into the overnight hours. Now, this is
02:25not as major of a severe weather threat is what we saw this past weekend, but
02:29still something you'll want to stay weather ready for with a lot of this
02:32happening late into the day and overnight. Amanda.
02:36Good morning. I'm Taylor Tucker. Here are your top stories from West
02:39Tennessee. A congregation in Memphis is trying to move forward after their
02:42pastor was shot and killed last week. Emotions ran high as members of Pastor
02:47Ricky Floyd's church tried to hold service. He was shot outside a bar this
02:52past Wednesday. The sermon was both a celebration and a reflection of Floyd's
02:56work in Memphis, and it was a call to action to continue to seek out his
03:01vision for the city. Some church members says they hope that this
03:05celebration will honor him. What I always say, Can you serve? Can you work
03:10wounded? So many of us are wounded. Many of us hurt, but we're yet serving
03:15because we know without a shadow of a doubt, Pastor Ricky Floyd had a true
03:19relationship with God, and he taught us how to serve wounded.
03:24Now, as for 42 year old Samantha Marion, she remains in jail on a $100,000 bond
03:30on voluntary manslaughter charges. Her defense argues she acted in self
03:34defense after an argument between the two in court. Marion says she did not
03:39know Pastor Ricky Floyd.
03:42Well, Dollywood is officially open for its 40th season. More than 3.5 million
03:46people visit the park every year. Dolly says much of the success is due to so
03:51many people working behind the scenes. Next year, there's gonna be even more
03:54to check out. Work on a new attraction is underway now. It's one Dolly says
03:59will lead the industry and feature the Smoky Mountains at night. Well, we hope
04:03to keep growing every year, and I think Dolly would last long after I'm not
04:08here, but I'll always be here in spirit, and they'll always, you know,
04:12always be. They'll be reminded of me and so many things. This year, visitors
04:17can expect a new restaurant in Wilderness Pass, a new attraction in
04:22the Imagination Playhouse and a major facelift for the country fair section of
04:27the park. It is official. The 68 team bracket for the N. C. Double A. Men's
04:31basketball tournament has been revealed, and it includes four in state teams. So
04:36now it's just time to make your selections. The Tennessee Vols are a
04:40two seed. They're headed to Lexington, Kentucky, to face 15 seed Wofford.
04:45Vanderbilt is a 10 seed in the east. The Commodores will take on seven seed
04:50ST Mary's in Cleveland. Memphis won the A. C. Title and earned a five seat in
04:56the west region. The Tigers will play Colorado State in Seattle. The Lipscomb
05:00Bisons are the a son champion and a 14 seed in the south region. They get Iowa
05:06State in Milwaukee. The 16th ranked Memphis Tigers are going dancing. The
05:12Tigers won the American Athletic Conference tournament after beating U.
05:15A. B. 84 to 72 Sunday. Memphis now setting their sights on the big dance.
05:21The N. C. A. A. Tournament. The Tigers are the fifth seed in the west region,
05:26the highest for the Tigers since they were a number two seed in the 2000 and
05:30nine tournament. The Tigers will face the Colorado State Rams Friday
05:34afternoon at one o'clock in Seattle.
05:38Well, the long awaited journey home for a Tennessee astronaut getting closer
05:41and closer to finally becoming reality. A new crew launched to the
05:45International Space Station Friday night and arrived Saturday. If all goes
05:49to plan, the rocket will return with Tennessee astronaut Barry Butch Wilmore
05:53and Sonny Williams. The two have been in space for nine months due to
05:56technical problems with their Boeing Starliner spacecraft. You know, the way
06:01the the narrative is kind of become they're stranded in space. They've been
06:04abandoned in space. That's simply not true. They've never been stranded.
06:08They've always had a vehicle to come home in if they had to. The problem for
06:13NASA was they had to try to figure out a way to get Butch and Sonny Williams
06:17back to the ground without disrupting the space station schedule. Wilmore, a
06:23Tennessee Tech and University of Tennessee grad as well as Williams and
06:26two other crew mates are planning to return to Earth no earlier than this
06:30coming Wednesday. We talked to Wilmore's family. Her daughter says she
06:33just hopes that her dad makes it back home in time for her graduation.
06:38Memphis Grizzlies retired grit and grind legend Tony Allen's number nine
06:42jersey. Allen's jersey now hangs in the rafters next to Zach Randolph's number
06:4750 and Marc Gasol's number 33. The grandfather played seven seasons with
06:52the Grizzlies, where he helped lead the Bill Street Bears to the playoffs each
06:56season, including a trip to the Western Conference finals in 2013. Allen
07:01was and still is known as one of the best defenders to ever play in the NBA.
