00:00The Department of Justice announced the decision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:04if the Philippines will return as a member of the International Criminal Court
00:09in the face of the call of some personalities.
00:12Next, the DOJ reiterated that the former President Rodrigo Duterte was given a due process.
00:17Here is what it said.
00:21The Department of Justice reiterated that the law enforcement did not violate the commitment of the former President Rodrigo Duterte
00:28to the International Criminal Court or ICC.
00:31In the program Mike Abelive, Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix T. said
00:36that inside the Villamor Air Base on the day of the arrest,
00:39his lawyers and Dr. Dina were with the former President Duterte.
00:43He also did not violate the former President's food and medical assistance.
00:48Our law enforcers in Villamor did not violate the law.
00:54There were medical professionals from the law enforcement
00:58and the private doctors of PRRD were also allowed inside.
01:04Undersecretary T. also agreed with the process of arresting the former President Duterte.
01:10Before we turn over to the ICC,
01:14we have three requests from the ICC.
01:17First, to prove that the subject of the warrant of arrest is the former President, PRRD.
01:25Second, while the warrant of arrest is being executed, all his rights were violated.
01:33Third, the execution of the warrant of arrest went through the right process.
01:38The government is instructing the International Criminal Court to investigate the case
01:43and if the former President is needed.
01:46But if PRRD is needed from our government,
01:50we will see if we can give him the warrant.
01:55But for now, if we look at it,
01:57it looks like the ICC is giving him enough.
02:00And it looks like he has enough resources.
02:06Because as we reported,
02:08aside from his Filipino lawyers,
02:11they also have a contract as lawyers.
02:16The embassy in the Netherlands also agreed, according to T.,
02:19with the need of the former President.
02:21The re-integration of the Philippines into the ICC
02:24is in the decision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
02:28Our withdrawal from the ICC in 2019,
02:32the effect of that is that we no longer have an obligation to the ICC.
02:37But because the ICC passed the warrant of arrest in Interpol,
02:43we were able to fulfill our obligations.
02:48Because in Interpol,
02:50it is in our interest to help Interpol.
02:56Because usually, they help us
02:59when we have requests
03:01to arrest various criminals.
03:06A good example of that is the help of Interpol
03:10in arresting the former congressman Arnie Tevez.
03:14The call of the DOJ to the public.
03:17The DOJ's statement,
03:19we also made it public last week,
03:22that I hope our countrymen will be convinced
03:26that the process of arresting PRRD
03:30and the prosecution against him has passed.
03:33There are grounds for this in the law.
03:35As I said, our membership in Interpol
03:38and the RA-9851
03:40and the needs of the ICC
03:43for PRRD to submit to them,
03:47the DOJ is fulfilling them.
03:50Joshua Garcia for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
