00:00Starting next month, Meralco's customers will receive a refund because of almost Php20 billion worth of distribution charges.

00:10That is the first news of Mob Gonzales.

00:15The bill in Corriente Nina Andrea is Php6,000 per month, so she is very thankful for the hefty refund of Meralco that will start in April.

00:25It's a big deal.

00:26For daily groceries, like rice, vegetables, and so on.

00:34According to the ERC, or Energy Regulatory Commission,

00:37they need to refund almost Php20 billion in total to the customers for the hefty distribution charges from July 2022 to December 2024.

00:49The Energy Regulatory Commission also issued an order for Meralco to refund the amount of Php19.93 billion.

00:59That will start in April.

01:01It will last for 36 months or three years starting in April.

01:07It's normal for there to be an excess or lack of distribution.

01:11There is a gap of two weeks before they can read the metro.

01:16Because it's not in real-time.

01:19When you submit it, you will pay for it.

01:21There is a natural cycle of over and under.

01:27But this is a delay of a year.

01:34The refund of the utility is almost Php12 per kilowatt hour.

01:42Equivalent to a refund of Php40 if the consumption is up to 200 kilowatt hours per month.

01:48This can be seen in the bill on the separate line for the AWAT refund.

01:52Meralco will apply for another refund scheme

01:55if they can compute the actual weighted average tariff or AWAT for January to June 2025.

02:01Meralco said this will help.

02:04Especially if the electricity consumption is higher.

02:08The refund to Meralco's Php26 rate hike is not connected this month.
