00:00I like trains. There I said it. Fast ones. Weird ones. Futuristic ones. I want to ride them all.
00:05My dad made this list of trains located in Japan, which gave me an idea.
00:10My dad has really bad taste in wall art.
00:12And the only personal picture he has framed is this one with my brother and I from 20 years ago.
00:18This folder contains all of the family photos I have in my life.
00:21So my plan is simple, but it's not easy. Here are the rules.
00:25Rule number one. We must give each train a cool score.
00:28This is to trick my dad into thinking this is really why we're here.
00:31Rule number two. All food must come from the train or train station.
00:34I made up that rule because I love the vending machines there.
00:37And rule number three. We can't stop riding trains until I have enough photos to update my dad's house.
00:42Let's go to Japan!
00:44Yay! We're flying to Japan!
00:46Last time I took my dad to ride trains, he ended up ditching me and exploring Italy by himself.
00:52So I'm hoping this time we stick together.
00:53We grabbed some hot vending machine coffees and prepared for our first train ride in Japan.
00:58I'll say train number one, then we both say all aboard. Ready?
01:01Train number one, all aboard!
01:03Okay guys, this is the LeVue. It's futuristic, it's cool.
01:06I got these animations made of me and my dad.
01:09This is gonna be a ton of fun.
01:10In terms of its name, LeVue, the L stands for luxury, the A stands for aero-like speed,
01:15and view stands for... Yeah, the view. Pretty much exactly what it... Yeah.
01:19My puppy's got some big windows.
01:21It's going to be about an hour train ride.
01:23I don't know much about the interior of the train, but it looks like it's gonna be really cool,
01:27which is promising for its cool score. Right, dad?
01:29Yes.
01:30He's shy sometimes.
01:37The train will be here any second. I can't wait to see if it's real.
01:40Let's ride the most futuristic train.
01:45We step on board and immediately I have an idea of what kind of photo I want to get of me and my dad.
01:50It would look something like this.
01:52But if I'm gonna pull it off, I'm gonna have to be sneaky.
01:55We have officially departed on the LeVue.
01:58What do you think so far?
01:59Love the view. It's pretty cool.
02:02These windows are massive.
02:03I think we're gonna get the sunrise, which is gonna be so beautiful.
02:06Before we do some exploring and I take some pictures, how about a quick seat tour?
02:11LeVue comes with a comfy yellow chair that reclines, a miniature table,
02:15a diagram of the train cars, including toilet locations.
02:18This also doubles as a larger table, a cup holder, outlets for charging,
02:23backpack storage, overhead, free Wi-Fi.
02:25Wow, futuristic.
02:27Coat hanger and a LeVue pillow attached to a very comfortable yellow chair.
02:32We're just gonna enjoy LeVue for a second.
02:40We have a desire to utilize the bathrooms on the train.
02:43How about this? I'll go to the one in the front, you go to the one in the back.
02:48Hi, Dad.
02:53I'm not supposed to talk real loud on trains, apparently, or anywhere.
02:56Alright, I found the bathroom. Look at this.
02:59Woah.
03:00This bathroom is sick.
03:01Look how long and narrow the sink is.
03:02I can do a fit check right here. Turn around, boom, another fit check.
03:06Not only do the trains also have bidets, but there's a little sink next to the toilet.
03:10What is that for? What could that possibly be for?
03:12All of the toilets here have warm seats.
03:15That's amazing. I wonder what my dad's doing right now.
03:17I guess that's where you wash your hands.
03:19And I guess that's where you do your business.
03:25Gives some perspective on the massive sink.
03:29That's it. Let's go back.
03:33Okay, after a much-needed bathroom break and a quick trip to the front of the train just to see what it looks like,
03:37we are almost at our destination, which means this is my last chance to get some pictures.
03:41I told my dad I set up my camera for a video, but actually, I'm taking pictures.
03:50Train number one down. La Vieux was really cool.
03:53The question is, what is our cool score? We're giving cool scores.
03:56On a scale of what?
03:57On a scale of one to ten, what is the cool score?
03:59Ready? On three.
04:00Three, two, one, seven.
04:03Oh.
04:04Why do you say eight?
04:05The people, the culture.
04:06I'm talking about the train, La Vieux.
04:08La Vieux, the train.
04:12I don't know, you can put me on the spot.
04:14The good news is, before our next train ride, we're going to go to a restaurant.
04:17The good news is, before our next train ride, we're waiting in Tokyo Station,
04:21and there are endless restaurants to choose from.
04:23We should go eat.
04:24Let's go eat.
04:30Left, right for ramen.
04:33Guys, I'm getting by with my very limited Japanese.
04:36I said, wadokadesuka ramen?
04:38And she knew what I said.
04:42I think I said that wrong.
04:43This bowl of ramen is looking scrumptious.
04:46This is so much food.
04:47I mean, this is like an absurd amount of food for anyone.
04:50Don't worry, I already got photos of my dad and the ramen.
04:53Look at these noodles.
04:54Party.
04:55There's some major slurpage going on in this room right now.
04:57Like, the whole room is just slurping.
04:59It's awesome.
05:03Don't mind me.
05:04I'm just following rule number two of the video.
05:06I thought this would be harder, to be honest.
05:08I just gotta say hello.
05:10Hello Kitty, that is.
05:13The next train is a Hello Kitty train.
05:15I don't expect my dad to be excited to ride this one, but he is.
05:18And so am I.
05:19Look how cute this is.
05:21Aw, Hello Kitty's getting on the train.
05:23Japan has a variety of themed trains.
05:25They have so many, it's almost unbelievable.
05:27My dad and I wanted to ride the Pikachu train,
05:29but it was booked months in advance.
05:31So we booked something maybe even cooler.
05:33A Hello Kitty train that goes 200 miles per hour.
05:35And for my non-Americans watching,
05:37boom, that's how fast it is.
05:39Just for you guys.
05:40I mean, that is hardcore.
05:41Apparently there's also a souvenir shop on board,
05:43and there's a kawaii room for lounging.
05:45It's full of decorations, it seems fun.
05:47One thing is for certain, my dad and I are in for a treat.
05:54Okay, hear me out.
05:55This is my vision for the picture on this train.
05:57My dad is vibing with Hello Kitty somewhere on the train.
05:59That's pretty much all I got.
06:01All aboard the Hello Kitty Express.
06:03So we have reserved tickets in car number four.
06:05This car is not themed, but the cars in the front are.
06:07In the meantime, this seat is insanely nice.
06:09Like first class on an airplane.
06:12This seat has a lot of similar features as the last train.
06:14Table, cup holder, window shade.
06:16But I think the main reason that people love this train so much
06:18is for the cars that are in front.
06:20It seems pretty busy up front at the moment.
06:22I've seen at least 14 people go up there.
06:24So for the time being, we're just going to enjoy our drinks
06:26from the vending machine, sit back, relax,
06:28and enjoy the Hello Kitty ride.
06:42As I'm waiting for the traffic
06:44in the Hello Kitty cars to die down,
06:46I decide, hmm, maybe I should just go check out the bathroom.
06:48Maybe it's different from the other trains.
06:50Maybe it's Hello Kitty themed.
06:52This bathroom is not giving Hello Kitty vibes.
06:54The sink is cute.
06:56So that's, I mean, that's a little on brand.
06:58The window is actually crazy.
07:00Like I thought this would come down or something,
07:02but nope.
07:04I guess I just take a whiz.
07:06At least the bathroom is clean.
07:08I don't think I've ever seen a bathroom like this.
07:11At least the hand washing area is cute.
07:13Pink polka dots, vanity mirror,
07:15cute little lipstick mouse.
07:20You've got to go try that urinal.
07:22Alright guys, I think it's about that time.
07:24Let's go to the Hello Kitty car.
07:29I cannot believe I'm going to say this,
07:31but car number three is way cooler than car number four.
07:33It even has pink polka dots.
07:35The rooms are getting progressively cuter.
07:37This is crazy.
07:39This train car has a photo op,
07:41which means it would not be suspicious at all
07:43if I took a bunch of photos of my dad
07:45standing with Hello Kitty.
07:51I cannot believe these pictures exist.
07:53We made our way to the final train car,
07:55and look at this.
08:00We made it to the Hello Kitty souvenir shop.
08:02I got this little Hello Kitty train car for Hayley.
08:04I also purchased a Hello Kitty coin,
08:06which allows you to use the toy machine.
08:08Let's see what this is.
08:10It's like a magnet lunchbox or something.
08:12This train car is so cool.
08:14There's a movie theater section,
08:16tons of souvenirs. It is a souvenir shop,
08:18and it's kind of just a vibe in here.
08:20We've got another hour or so in our train ride,
08:22so I guess we'll just hang out in here, huh?
08:24Let's do it.
08:30Overall, this Hello Kitty train car
08:32has been so cute,
08:34and even though my dad's probably not going to say it out loud,
08:36I think he's really enjoying it.
09:06And just like that, it's time to say goodbye
09:08to the Hello Kitty train car.
09:10Oh, oh my gosh. My dad's already at the vending machines.
09:12That man's already snacking. Look at him.
09:14He's snacking on.
09:16I talked my dad out of getting the chocolate fish,
09:18and then we looked around the train station
09:20for something yummy to eat.
09:24This one has a huge 7-Eleven,
09:26but we ultimately decided on a sushi place.
09:32The food is yummy. It is delicious.
09:34Except my dad keeps putting too much wasabi on his sushi.
09:36Hayley is actively framing photos back home
09:38and taking art off the wall.
09:48Everything is going great.
09:50It almost feels too good to be true.
09:52Next up, Saphir Odoriko.
09:54This train is beautiful.
09:56There's a view of the ocean, potentially Pokémon.
09:58I don't know. It's going to be amazing.
10:00This next train ride is going to be two and a half hours,
10:02and reportedly, it's the most scenic train ride there is.
10:04Nice.
10:06There are stunning views of the ocean.
10:08The seats could be called thrones by the looks of it.
10:10And there is a kitchen on board.
10:12There will be food involved.
10:14Can I cook?
10:16We literally just ate a bunch of ramen,
10:18and more food is coming our way.
10:20All aboard the most beautiful train in Japan.
10:30Okay.
10:32I have terrible news.
10:34I booked the wrong train ticket.
10:36We can't go on the Saphir Odoriko
10:38because I booked the wrong train ticket.
10:40I got an animation made and everything.
10:42This is devastating.
10:44I actually feel so bad.
10:46My dad was so excited for that one.
10:48So was I.
10:50Booking things on Japanese websites is confusing.
10:52I told my dad, it's okay, Dad.
10:54But I can tell he's upset.
10:56He's just trying to stay positive.
10:58I decided to take my dad to the world's busiest crosswalk.
11:02This is so cool.
11:04We stood in the exact center,
11:06and I took some photos.
11:10Even though I booked the wrong train ticket,
11:12I think my dad is having a really good time.
11:14We got some coffee,
11:16and my dad showed me this selfie he got with a Pikachu.
11:18When did he do that?
11:20I don't know when he did that.
11:22It's nighttime.
11:24We're back in Tokyo because tomorrow
11:26we're riding the fastest train.
11:28As you can tell, my dad loves to go fast.
11:30It's gonna be awesome.
11:32In terms of secret photos that I captured of my dad today,
11:34here's the haul.
11:36Pretty good.
11:38Hayley is hard at work framing my selections.
11:40I'm actually so excited for the surprise
11:42when we get home.
11:44But I'm confident that the best photos are yet to come.
11:46That's enough yapping.
11:48I can't wait to go fast.
11:50I'll see you in the morning.
11:52I am going to bed.
11:54Hey, it's the morning of the next day.
11:56We made our way to the train station,
11:58and I got straight to work.
12:00It looks awesome.
12:02It looks so cool.
12:04They call it the Peregrine Falcon,
12:06aka the fastest train in Japan.
12:08Some say it's so fast,
12:10you can't even see it arrive.
12:12It just shows up.
12:14This train behind me reaches speeds of up to 200 miles per hour.
12:16And for my non-Americans...
12:18Okay, I've only said that twice.
12:20Why are we making a big deal about it?
12:22It also has a 15 meter long nose.
12:24I don't know much about trains,
12:26but I do know that's a long nose.
12:2815 meters.
12:30Yeah, that is a long nose.
12:32It has a huge nose.
12:34There's not many things cooler than going fast,
12:36so that's very compelling for this train's cool score.
12:38Don't want to blink. We might miss it.
12:40We should actually go.
12:48We walk on board and look how nice these seats look.
12:50In terms of the picture I'm thinking about taking of my dad,
12:52I don't have very many ideas,
12:54and I don't think this one is very safe,
12:56so we'll have to figure it out as we go.
13:02We have officially taken off
13:04in the fastest train in Japan.
13:06Oh, a tunnel.
13:08After boarding the train and sitting down,
13:10we were approached by a train attendant
13:12who offered us a meal.
13:14We picked the Japanese meal and asked for green tea.
13:16So while we wait for our snacks to arrive,
13:18we went on a grand class seat tour.
13:20This is the fancy seat.
13:22It's basically like booking first class on an airplane,
13:24and my dad wanted the best experience
13:26on this train in particular.
13:28The seat itself is so comfortable.
13:30There are also these controls that make your seat recline.
13:32Don't judge me, my feet were barely on the floor anyway.
13:34This ticket also comes with a gift bag
13:36containing a water, a menu, a towel,
13:38and salt chocolate.
13:40Anyway.
13:42I also chugged the grand class water,
13:44because how often do you get to chug grand class water?
13:46It also comes with slippers, which, of course,
13:48I had to put on, outlets for charging,
13:50tiny table, big table, a reading light,
13:52an extra pillow for napping and looking at the view,
13:54and lastly, I'm pressing this button
13:56with a person on it to see what it does.
13:58Do you have coffee?
14:02Ice?
14:04Arigato gozaimasu.
14:06I panicked and asked for coffee.
14:10Me every morning.
14:12Our train attendant quickly came back
14:14with two coffees and also gave us a treat.
14:16It was pound cake. They just gave us pound cake.
14:18Is this pound cake? Am I misinterpreting
14:20what this is? My dad's dipping it in his coffee.
14:22We don't know what to do with this cake.
14:24We have not yet reached the top speed
14:26of this bullet train, and this train is actually
14:28not going to be the fastest in Japan for long,
14:30because they're working on a train that literally
14:32uses magnets to levitate,
14:34and it's going to be way faster.
14:36But in the meantime, this is the fastest
14:38and arguably coolest train we could be riding.
14:40I'm going to go check out the bathroom.
14:42I cannot get over
14:44how big the bathrooms on these trains are.
14:46I mean, I'm a pretty big guy,
14:48and look how much space I take up.
14:50The bathroom on the fastest train in Japan has all the essentials.
14:52Tiny corner sink, other tiny sink,
14:54right next to the toilet, bidet of course,
14:56and not one,
14:58but two flush buttons.
15:00I walk back
15:02to my grand class seat, and for the rest of this
15:04ride, soak in the beautiful landscape
15:06of Japan while moving at the speed of light.
15:08That was a little dramatic.
15:10We are going very fast.
15:12Next thing we know, our complimentary meal has arrived.
15:14Look how yummy! It was very good.
15:16I enjoyed this meal.
15:18My dad's freaking out about the speed. He loves speed.
15:20It's like his main thing that he likes.
15:22But before we arrive, I realized I haven't really gotten
15:24many photos, so I gave my dad some cool glasses,
15:26and I went to work.
15:36Okay, we can officially say we rode the fastest train
15:38in Japan. It was fast.
15:40We're gonna give a cool score rating on three.
15:42One, two, three.
15:44Ten.
15:46That was pretty cool. I think so.
15:48I mean, just look at it. It looks so sick.
15:56See? That's how fast.
15:58That's how fast.
16:00That was terrifying. There was another one.
16:02Holy smokes. Does your rating change
16:04with that? 9.8.
16:069.9 out of 10 cool score
16:08for the fastest train in Japan.
16:10Before we prepare for our next train,
16:12there's something I want to show you at this train station.
16:14Alright, let's go.
16:16We are basically in the middle of nowhere.
16:18We have been all over Japan,
16:20but this train station has
16:22the legendary Pikachu train.
16:24I snuck some pictures of my dad next to the Pikachu.
16:30And then we went to check if there were any tickets left
16:32on the train, because when I tried to look online,
16:34there were zero.
16:40Nothing.
16:42This entire station is themed around this Pokemon train.
16:44Look how cute these posters are.
16:46They're adorable. And even though we can't ride the train,
16:48we're still gonna try to step on it.
16:50Because I think that would be cool.
16:52I found the Pikachu train conductor and he was very nice.
16:54And finally,
16:56it arrived. Pokemon is like the first
16:58video game my dad ever got me, so
17:00this would have been really cool.
17:02I'm just happy we can see it in person.
17:04The door is open and I am very nervous to get on
17:06without a ticket, but I'm doing it.
17:10Look at this.
17:12This is so cool. Maybe one day.
17:14Maybe.
17:16So long, Pikachu.
17:18See you next time.
17:20After a few hours, we made it back to the Tokyo train station.
17:22There's a Pokemon store here,
17:24which is great. I hear retail therapy
17:26is a very healthy way to deal with
17:28not riding the trains you want to ride.
17:30I bought a bunch of stuff.
17:32We did not get to ride it, but the cool score for Pikachu
17:34it's 10.
17:36I'm not even including my dad in this.
17:38I just, I'm sorry. This train was about me.
17:40What up?
17:42I thought it'd be funny to say what up.
17:44The upside down train's next? Okay.
17:46I mean, it looks upside down.
17:48I don't know if it actually works like that. That'd be weird.
17:50I've been doing some thinking and I realized
17:52we've practically spanned the entirety
17:54of Japan in this video already.
17:56Here's a visual representation. Isn't that crazy?
17:58Me and my dad are going to split up for one of our last vending machine runs.
18:00So, uh, good luck.
18:02Oh, he's running.
18:04He doesn't normally, okay.
18:06Before I go to my vending machine, I just got to say,
18:08this picture says it all.
18:12Literally says it all.
18:16Nice.
18:18I doubt my dad's going to find a better vending machine setup
18:20than this one.
18:22I have learned that if I leave my dad alone long enough,
18:24he's going to find his way to a Levi's store for some reason.
18:28Classic.
18:30Look at this handsome guy.
18:34Five rupees.
18:36I'm going to surprise my dad with some candy.
18:38But before I can show it to you, I have to explain something.
18:40So if you don't know, Joyride, this bag of candy
18:42that's been getting squished in my backpack
18:44for the past few days, is my candy.
18:46And I have a dream of candy aisles that have
18:48no fake junk and still taste amazing.
18:50Some countries have already done this.
18:52Japan, for example, they don't use fake colors either.
18:54And based on Google Translate, also have much better ingredients.
18:56That's my crazy dream for Joyride.
18:58But how, Ryan, how can this dream be possible?
19:00Well, we're starting in America and proving
19:02that we want better candy.
19:04We are so close to becoming the number one candy in Target.
19:06And when we do, there will be no excuse
19:08for any candy brand to ever say
19:10that it can't be done without fake junk.
19:12And to celebrate nearly becoming number one,
19:14we are releasing this brand new
19:16crunchy and gummy candy.
19:18It's a secret for now, that's why it's blurred.
19:20But depending on when you're watching this video,
19:22you can go to Target right now and get it.
19:24So go to Target, grab some Joyride
19:26and help us push to the number one spot.
19:28But if you don't live in America, please follow Joyride on Instagram.
19:30One day we might bring Joyride to your country.
19:32Okay, I got my snacks.
19:34Let's go find my dad and ride the upside-down train.
19:40You didn't get any snacks?
19:42Give me the bag.
19:48I got a crunchy, chewy
19:50soft in the middle.
19:52Somebody's doing something right.
19:56Oh man, it's time for the emotional music already.
20:00This is our last stop, guys.
20:02I don't really know if it's possible
20:04to get a photo like this,
20:06because I'm literally riding the train
20:08and we're both defying gravity.
20:10Last I checked, neither of us are the Wicked Witch of the West.
20:14Little joke for you guys.
20:16But this is the only train ride that we have at night time.
20:18And we get to see the city all lit up.
20:24This is so cool.
20:26So cool.
20:28It's like we're flying.
20:30This was by far the shortest train ride of the video.
20:32It's only about 10 minutes.
20:36And even though I didn't want it to end,
20:38it's probably good that it does.
20:40It would actually be scary
20:42if they didn't let us off.
20:44The point is,
20:46we're here.
20:48And I have no idea how this train works.
20:50But that's pretty cool.
20:52Cool score on three?
20:54One, two, three.
20:56Eight.
20:58We didn't agree on a single one.
21:00No, we didn't.
21:02We were close.
21:04There you have it.
21:06These are our cool score rankings thus far.
21:08It's been a fun day.
21:10And I don't really know where we are right now.
21:12It is our last night in Japan,
21:14which means this is my last chance
21:16to get whatever photos I possibly can
21:18for my dad's room.
21:20He wanted some at 7-Eleven,
21:22and then he took the camera and started taking photos.
21:24I don't know what he's doing, to be honest.
21:26But obviously, Japan is not home.
21:28And the reason we take pictures
21:30is to remind us how we felt at some point in the past.
21:32I don't consider myself a photographer or anything,
21:34but I feel like I got some really cool photos
21:36that I'm actually proud of.
21:38And I hope my dad likes them.
21:40Back home in Texas.
21:42Here we go.
21:44You have to take a right.
21:46I'm pushing you in.
21:48Okay.
21:503, 2, 1, open!
21:56That was cool.
21:58We cracked open some new Joyride
22:00and shared our favorite memories of the trip.
22:02And just like that, I have another folder on my desktop.
22:10Thank you so much for watching this video.
22:12Joyride is now a top three candy in Target.
22:14Our dream is to become number one.
22:16So shout out to all the climbers
22:18who are joining the climb.
22:20Also, YouTube really thinks you would like this video on screen,
22:22so click it. Give it a watch.
22:24The party doesn't have to stop now.
