00:06Visa of scholar Ranjani Srinivasan has been revoked
00:10Her visa has been revoked because she supported Hamas
00:14United States said that student advocated violence and terrorism and that's why the administration has taken a call
00:21Visa of scholar
00:25Ranjani Srinivasan has been revoked
00:28My colleague Geeta Mohan is now joining me on the story
00:31Geeta this is a big thing coming in from the United States of America
00:34The US is now saying that this particular student advocated violence and terrorism
00:40Well, this is a major crackdown on student protests that have taken place post the Gaza operation by Israel
00:47there's many students who had come out protesting the
00:51kind of operations that were being carried out by Israel against
00:55Against the people in Gaza and
00:58Now there is an active
01:03method that the US administration Department of Justice is using to identify those who were a part of the protest and
01:13And then if they are foreign nationals to revoke their visa
01:18Which is which is what happened to Ranjani Srinivasan
01:22She is an Indian national on an F1 student visa was in Columbia doing her doctoral studies
01:29in urban planning and
01:32Her visa was revoked, which is why she used the CBP home app
01:37Which is a home app to self-deport yourself and on March
01:42Which she did on March 11th, and then
01:45the Secretary of Homeland Security
01:48Secretary and
01:50Kristi Noem who has put out a video saying that I'm glad that she's done this and she's leaving
01:56because she's the supporter of terrorists, which is what they've been
02:01Stemming anybody who supported Palestine that the cause for Palestine
02:05So this is actually a worrisome development because now we will be seeing a series of
02:12deportations and
02:15Cancellations or revocations not just of visas, but also of green cards, so
02:21Expect a lot of turmoil and turbulence in the coming days when it comes to Indian students or Indian green card holders
02:30The green cards or the visas being revoked and then being sent home
02:35Which is back to India not just her there was another student
02:39Palestinian from West Bank whose student visa has also been revoked. Again, you'll have to wait and see where she's sent
02:47Right. Thank You Geeta Mohan our foreign affairs editor putting things in perspective and also saying that this is just the beginning
02:53We could see a lot more students coming back from the United States of America
