"The Wrong Man? 20 Years Behind Bars" delves into the case of Paul Denham, a London native convicted of murdering his wife's lover in Los Angeles in 1998. Denham was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in a maximum-security facility in Southern California. The victim, Edward Weinmann, was shot while driving on the busy 405 Freeway, allegedly from another vehicle. Once authorities learned of the love triangle involving Paul, they quickly identified jealousy as a potential motive. Paul met his wife, Dolores Legaspi, shortly after relocating to California in 1993, and they married a year later, despite her ongoing relationship with Eddie. Following a burglary at their home, Paul purchased a handgun for protection, raising questions about his capability to commit the crime. However, the critical question remains: did he have the opportunity?

At the core of this narrative is Paul’s alibi, which asserts that he was in San Francisco, approximately 350 miles away, at the time of Eddie's murder. If this claim holds true, it would suggest his innocence. However, law enforcement presents an alternative theory, arguing that there was an eleven-hour timeframe during which Paul could have returned to Los Angeles, committed the murder, and then returned to San Francisco. Both the prosecution and defense narratives contain inconsistencies, including an alleged forgery of key evidence. This documentary presents both sides of the argument, encouraging viewers to form their own conclusions. After spending over 25 years in prison, Paul remains steadfast in his claim of innocence and is actively pursuing efforts to exonerate himself.
