00:00Thank you. I will make sure that whenever we give five minutes to each member, it's
00:05honored without disruption. When a member says they do not yield, do not continue to
00:11go after the member and try to take away their time. Miss you.
00:17I moved to strike the last word in the absence of any strength from Republicans and delusional
00:25statements about access to Musk and with Representative Doggett's leadership, Ways
00:34and Means Democrats are stepping in to do what the majority on this committee has refused
00:39to do. Fulfill our constitutional responsibility to conduct actual oversight and finally get
00:47answers from the Trump administration about what exactly Elon Musk and Doge accessed,
00:54altered, downloaded or used when they were improperly given access to Treasury's payment
01:00systems and taxpayers' protected confidential information.
01:07Now Representative Moore and I tried to get answers directly from the Speaker and the
01:11Treasury Secretary. We then urged the Speaker and the Chairman to hold a proper hearing
01:16in this committee to get answers from Musk and Treasury officials. And Ways and Means
01:22Democrats have sent letters and introduced amendments to demand answers from the administration.
01:30But so far, Republicans have refused to act.
01:36This resolution of inquiry is only necessary because in the face of extremely troubling
01:40facts, Republicans have pretended not only that there's nothing wrong, but that Congress
01:47has no right to even understand what Musk and Doge are doing.
01:54It is astounding to think that Republicans have been so unquestionably submissive and
02:01obedient to Trump and Musk that they cannot even bring themselves to even ask questions
02:08about their actions and whether it invades taxpayer confidentiality, let alone question
02:16the firing of many thousands of federal employees, including 80,000 from the Veterans Administration
02:25and the firings of inspector generals who are to have oversight over all our federal
02:31departments.
02:33I remind my colleagues that it was just last year that Democrats joined you in passing
02:39legislation to increase penalties for violating taxpayer confidentiality.
02:49It is the height of hypocrisy not to support this resolution of inquiry. But Dems will
03:00not be submissive and obedient.
03:04Democrats are demanding answers on behalf of all our constituents who are also demanding
03:12to know what Elon Musk has done with their confidential information.
03:19I urge support for both resolutions of inquiry under consideration today, and I would yield
03:26the balance of my time to Mr. Thompson.
