TikTok has been banned in Albania after authorities in the country ordered all internet service providers to block access to the Chinese-owned social media app. The ban was first announced last December after the killing of a 14-year-old, the culmination of a confrontation that started on TikTok. "Social media is holding our children hostage," says teacher Trendelina Zhupa.

00:00The next day
00:30I think this is a very positive change, because we have seen a lot of growth all these years.
00:40And I think that children can have a social network.
00:43Tiktok, for example, I take my time every week.
00:47They come to my house every day.
00:49They come and talk to me.
00:51Even if I don't answer the phone.
00:53I think it has also been eliminated by nerves, by stress.
00:57They have a little stress.
00:59I don't know, it's unimaginable.
01:02There are no rules that they have taught me about children.

01:21I am completely in favor of the building.
01:26I know I can consider it as a step forward.
01:30I think it is a step forward, because we are facing a reality
01:34where we see a lot of non-consensual activities,
01:39both inside and outside the school.

01:46We have more opportunities to control the children,
01:50and less social networks.
02:01In the beginning of Tiktok,
02:03I did it mainly for political reasons,
02:06a little bit for money,
02:09to support the opposition,
02:12and for many other reasons related to business,
02:15censorship of speech, free speech,
02:18which is mainly a political issue.
