NY cops guard Trump Tower, nab protesters demanding Mahmoud Khalil's release

Scores of people staged a protest at Trump Tower in New York on March 13 against the detention of Mahmoud Khalil, whom the Donald Trump administration aims to deport over his alleged “pro-Hamas” activism.  Jewish Voice for Peace, which describes itself as a progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization, carried out the demonstration. Police said they had made 98 arrests. 00:18Over 300 Jews and allies took over the downstairs of Trump Towers

00:24in protest of the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil

00:26and to ensure that we have the right to protest

00:29that we have the right to freedom of expression

00:31and sort of in opposition to everything

00:33that the Trump regime is doing to our democracy right now.

00:35We are with him, that everybody that gathered today

00:40but more importantly all of the students across the country

00:43that are holding protests in solidarity

00:45all of the cities that are having protests

00:47we are with him, we are with his family

00:50we're not going to stop until he is freed

00:54and his civil liberties are returned to him.

01:08thank you for your leadership, thank you for standing up.

01:11Every American must resist and stand up

01:14and we need to have actions like this and sit-ins like this

01:18and be willing, I mean these people are out here

01:20putting their bodies on the line for our democracy.

01:24We all have to stand up and take that risk

01:28because if we don't do that democracy will be gone.

01:30It's actually gone as we speak.

01:32Are we going to fight to get it back?
