00:00The former official of the Central Bank of the Philippines believes that the arrest of the International Criminal Court against former President Rodrigo Duterte has a positive impact on the country's economy.
00:10Christian Dascones has the details.
00:15Following heated discussions and comments on social media about the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte,
00:23the former official of the government and several business groups expressed their reaction on the effects of the arrest on the business sector.
00:30The former Central Bank Deputy Governor, Diwa Agnigundo, said that the arrest will have a positive impact on the country's economy.
00:38He added that the arrest of Duterte shows that the law is not being violated,
00:43and that it is a sign of maintaining peace.
00:46This will be more effective for many investors because foreign investors will feel that they are safe to do business in the country.
00:54Mailyn Aviva, co-chairperson of the Women's Business Council, believes that the sector of commerce in the country will remain stable as long as there is political stability.
01:05She has an advice for all businessmen.
01:16We are seeing a lot of divisiveness with regards to comments on who is wrong, who is correct.
01:24But I think as a business person, we should focus more on the economic status of our own businesses than being divisive in our opinion.
01:35Because in the very end, we're all Filipinos.
01:37So we just have to abide by what is the rule of law, whether it's international or national.
01:45But according to the president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Consul Manjo,
01:49they have not yet felt any effect on the business sector.
01:53But she wants it not to affect their sector.
01:58We're hoping it will not. That's why we want to observe and we want to wait.
02:03Because to us, for as long as they're not doing anything against us, business will go forward as normal as possible.
02:10I hope we will not be affected because right now, we are not.
02:14So moving forward, we feel this will not affect our business.
02:20Export, import, it will not.
02:22We don't know what is happening, but we don't want to be affected and we don't want to be involved.
02:29According to Dizon Kwok, JCI Manila Chairman for International Relations,
02:34There will be no effect on local businesses, but there may be a trust issue when it comes to trading with other countries.
02:42Because what they're talking about is an international entity that is caught up in the country's highest level.
02:49If it's local businesses, I think it will not be affected.
02:53But if you're trading or engaging with international counterparts, there may be a slight.
03:01But of course, there may be trust issues and that's our policy internally.
03:08Maybe it will not be affected.
