Did you know that the most dangerous scene in The Dark Knight is none other than the famous pencil trick? At first, it was thought that the pencil was CGI, but since they didn’t consider it necessary, they preferred a much more violent method, and so dangerous for the stuntman that.
The stuntmen filmed with a real pencil stuck into a table that was covered by only half a centimeter of rubber, so the actor had to pull it out while his head was being slammed against the table, which was very dangerous because if he didn’t do it in time, you can imagine what would happen. This scene was repeated a total of 22 times over two days of filming, but on three of those occasions, they were unlucky enough for the actor to lose consciousness from the blow.
Interestingly, the first of these cases happened on the first try, which caused Heath Ledger, who never broke character, to momentarily step out to check on the actor's condition.
