In my ongoing and increasingly misguided quest to pair sandwiches with my gin, I’ve decided to put curry in a sandwich. Specifically, canned chicken Tikka Masala, to pair with the spices in Asian Parsnip.

00:00Hello viewers brothers sisters, welcome back to the bug out bunker kitchen where I'd like to talk about my series of boar detectors
00:07These are expressions that people use that tell you immediately
00:11That they're a boar an example is you eat a banana and you start to unpeel it from this the stalk in and somebody jumps
00:18In and says oh, no, you shouldn't peel a banana like that
00:19You should peel it from the other end because if you look at monkeys eating bananas
00:22They always peel them from that in that nature knows best. Yes
00:24Monkeys haven't worked on the quantum computer. Have they other examples are people saying well a bumblebee, you know, technically can't fly
00:32when obviously they can people at Christmas who say well, of course it is originally a pagan festival or is related to some of the
00:38stories of antiquity a
00:40Sneeze comes out of your nose at Mach 1 these as soon as people say those things
00:44They are boars and another one is chicken tikka masala
00:48Somebody will always jump in and say well chicken tikka masala is of course Britain's national dish. I don't think it is
00:54I think it's something that somebody said once and it was quite funny admittedly, and we've repeated it. It isn't actually true
01:00There's also a story about how chicken tikka masala was invented in Britain in Birmingham
01:05I believe because an English bloke went to an Indian restaurant and had chicken tikka
01:10Which is a very genuine very authentic Indian thing and he complained that it was too dry
01:14So they created a sauce for it out of tomatoes and butter and what-have-you and that became chicken tikka masala
01:20I don't know if that's true
01:21It probably isn't if you jump in and say that you are a bore there is no doubt
01:25However, the chicken tikka masala is very popular
01:28It is so popular that it is available from Marks and Spencer's in a tin
01:34How about that?
01:36creamy classic
01:39Chicken tikka masala tomato based creamy curry using tender pieces of chicken breast
01:45Spoon over pillow rice with coriander. Yes, that is what you would do
01:50I wonder if there's anything on here about it being
01:52Britain's national dish. I hope not. Otherwise, I'll find somewhere else to buy my pants. No, there isn't
01:57Anyway, I was thinking yes
02:00Pour over peel out rice sprinkle coriander on the top eat with a nice poppadom or chapati
02:05But what about if you put it in a sandwich since that's what we do here. We make sandwiches
02:10so I'm going to heat up the
02:13CTM in this pan and then I'm going to
02:16Butter a piece of government-issued bread with lurpak spreadable butter invented in 1901
02:22Put the chicken tikka masala in it and see what it tastes like. Do you like chicken tikka masala?
02:28Camera crew Lucy. Yes. Yes Eve. I do not know
02:36How can you not listen to it
02:39Can you not like it?
02:42Smells delicious even before it's heated up
02:44I presume we will put this on the stew setting and this will take a few minutes to heat through
02:54We don't have any coriander don't think we have
03:02That is the first time the fridges ever let me down there is no coriander in it
03:08There's some salad cream. Would you like that?
03:11Cheese
03:13No cheese
03:15Place contents place contents into a saucepan
03:19Heat slowly stirring occasionally until hot do not boil. Yeah, exactly. I'm switching to manual
03:26reducing power
03:30Right, let us address the bread
03:34It is as usual local council bread
03:38To be spread on one side only with lurpak spreadable butter invented in 1901
03:45Are you playing on tik-tok Lucy
03:49We've already got three cameras concentrate
03:53I'm relying on you to test this for me Lucy since Eve doesn't like curry
03:58What other things do you not like Eve? I know I know the things that Lucy doesn't like which is pretty much everything
04:08You would eat cheese, yeah, would you drink gin?
04:22You're doomed you lot so confident am I Lucy in this sandwich like a banana by the way
04:32Good catch. I'm so confident in this sandwich. I'm going to
04:37Cut it in half and share it with you
04:40Because I don't like workplace bullying as you know, I don't believe in making you eat things that I wouldn't eat
04:46I'm going to let this
04:51Reduce slightly to thicken it up in
04:53The vain hope that it won't all run out the other side of the sandwich when we lift it to our faces
04:59But let's see
05:02Why not cut away to a nice picture of the Eiffel Tower being built
05:16Just gonna Google side effects of out-of-date lurpak
05:21Side effects of out-of-date that it's not out of date. It's just best before that was only
05:27three months ago
05:29Three months ago
05:33What are the side effects of eating very slightly out-of-date lurpak spreadable butter invented in 1901 Lucy
05:39upset stomach due to the rancid taste
05:44Does it smell okay?
05:47What the lurpak? Yeah
05:52You thought I was going to put it when there'd be a blob on my nose and yes
05:55It smells like lurpak spreadable batter invented in 1901
05:59It's very runny. Now. There's no reason at all why this wouldn't work because it's a chicken sandwich
06:05We eat those all the time. The sauce is made with for example tomatoes. You'd have a chicken and tomato sandwich
06:14You make it with yogurt or cream, but that's not really very different than putting lurpak spreadable butter invented in 1901 on the sandwich
06:20So why would this not work anybody?
06:22The only problem I see is that it runs out of the side and is a bit untidy but in terms of flavor
06:28Bread with chicken and tomato and dairy products and a bit of spice. Why wouldn't that work?
06:36Like a coronation chicken sandwich exactly
06:41Okay, I believe I'm ready is everybody ready yes
06:50This is this is a very the marks and Spencer's chicken tikka masala is very tomato II the one in my
06:57One of the nearby Indian restaurants to me is more
07:01Almondy it's quite it's quite stiff. It's a bit more orange. This is definitely brown
07:08Chicken tikka masala smells good, though. I
07:11Don't think the recipe. Oh, dear. We go already. I don't think it's enshrined in British standards or anything like that
07:17I think chicken tikka masala is a
07:20Is an idea?
07:23I
07:25Hope the Indian chefs of Britain and elsewhere are watching this thinking yes
07:30triangular or rectangular
07:32rectangular, correct
07:37They'll be kicking themselves saying why haven't we thought of that?
07:41She can take a masala. It obviously goes in a sandwich
07:44I'm not going to attempt to pick that up and put it on a plate Lucy. So you're gonna have to
07:49Come around here. I'm afraid would you like to be ready with a teaspoon to scrape up the
07:55Extra bits from the cutting board. There you go
08:01It looks great it looks interesting
08:05It's gonna be tough one to eat
08:07Yes
08:08And before you eat it, I'm going to say in advance this time a proper bite
08:13Not one of your little rodent nibbles in the corner
08:18Going into your gob oil separating from the does that matter
08:28Okay
08:32Are you so excited because I'm I'm desperate to try mine, but I want you to go first
08:37It's on your face, it's all right. Are you sure you don't want to try it Eve? This is your last chance
08:43That is delicious
08:45Mmm
08:48The combination of
08:50flavourful
08:51And the best of all the flavours
08:54Is the flavour of the masala
08:57And the taste is unique
09:00But you're gonna love it
09:04She's going to love it, you'll be like, oh my god. I'm just going to do it. I'm going to do this
09:08mmm the combination of post-war austerity bread with exotic chicken
09:16tikka masala from a tin is life-changing mmm I love it
09:34and it's hot yeah hot sandwich don't leave it people have been asking me
09:51about pairing these foods with gin which I think is an utter nonsense you don't
09:55pair gin with things you just drink it but if I were to choose one of James
10:00gin's gins to go with that sandwich I think I reckon California dream gin what
10:09do you think Lucy or Asian parsnip I suppose because that's yes got the word
10:15Asian in it is that too obvious no Asian parsnip pairs excellently with
10:19these Asian spices in the chicken tikka masala sandwich thank you for not
10:24subscribing or liking or commenting see you in the future for something else
