00:00An ex-official of the Central Bank of the Philippines believes that the arrest of the International Criminal Court against former President Rodrigo Duterte will benefit the economy of the country.
00:11Christian Bascones has the following report.
00:15Following heated discussions and comments on social media regarding the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte,
00:23the ex-official of the government and several business groups expressed their reaction on the effects of this on the business sector.
00:30The former Central Bank Deputy Governor, Diwa Ginegundo, told us that this will have a positive effect on the economy of the country.
00:38The arrest of Duterte is a sign that the law is not being followed.
00:42It is a sign of the continuation of peace.
00:46This will be more appealing to many investors because foreign investors will feel that they are safe to do business in the country.
00:54Miley Abiva, co-chairperson of the Women's Business Council, has great confidence that the business sector will remain stable in the country as long as there is political stability.
01:05She has an advice for all businessmen.
01:07There is no effect for us because as long as there's political stability in the Philippines, then that is what is important.
01:15I've been seeing a lot of divisiveness with regards to comments on who is wrong, who is correct.
01:24But I think as a business person, we should focus more on the economic status of our own businesses than being divisive in our opinion.
01:34Because in the very end, we're all Filipinos.
01:37So we just have to abide by what is the rule of law, whether it's international or national.
01:45But according to the President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Consul Manjo,
01:49they have not yet felt any effect on the business sector.
01:53But he wants it not to affect their sector.
01:58We're hoping it will not.
02:00That's why we want to observe and we want to wait.
02:03Because to us, for as long as they're not doing anything against us, business will go forward as normal as possible.
02:10So now we will not be affected because right now we are not.
02:14So moving forward, we feel this will not affect our business.
02:19Export, import, it will not.
02:22We don't know what is happening but we don't want to be affected and we don't want to be involved.
02:29According to Dizon Kwok, JCI Manila Chairman for International Relations,
02:34there will be no effect on local businesses.
02:37But there may be a trust issue when it comes to trading with other countries.
02:42Because what is being discussed here is an international entity that caught up with the country's former top leader.
02:49If it's local businesses, I think it won't be affected too much.
02:54If you're trading or engaging with an international counterpart, there may be a slight.
03:01But of course, if there's a trust issue, I don't know how our policy is internally.
03:08Maybe that will be affected.
