NASA and SpaceX have delayed the Crew-10 mission launch to the ISS due to a hydraulic issue with the ground support equipment. This extends the stay of astronauts, including Sunita Williams, who have been in space for nine months. The next launch attempt is set for March 17, depending on weather conditions at splashdown sites off Florida's coast.

00:00:00The world may be moving on, but remember there are two senior astronauts still stuck in space and it's going to be almost one year.
00:00:08The SpaceX launch has been scrubbed due to a hydraulic system ground issue.
00:00:13It was a March 13, Crew-10 launch.
00:00:16The Crew-9 mission with NASA astronauts Nick Higgs, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore,
00:00:21along with Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Gordonov, would depart the space station no earlier than 9 a.m.
00:00:28Now this will be on 17th March, Monday.
00:00:31There's been of course pending weather at the splashdown locations off the coast of Florida.
00:00:35This basically means that the return of Sunita Williams and her team has been further delayed.
00:00:41NASA has postponed this SpaceX Crew-10 launch and the return will now be possibly postponed for further days.
00:00:49Remember this mission was supposed to be barely for 8 days, went to 80 and it's going to be a year now.
00:00:55My colleague Shivani Sharma is tracking all the latest on that.
00:01:00Just take us through the details because just a few days ago I remember there was this announcement
00:01:06that they are set to return to Earth and be reunited with the family.
00:01:11What's the delay now about?
00:01:14Pooja, see this is a very crucial mission and especially after the delay in the Crew-9 which is meant to replace by the Crew-10.
00:01:23So certainly NASA doesn't want to take any risk, any chances and now when they've detected a flaw,
00:01:29they are postponing this particular mission.
00:01:32And NASA and SpaceX, they have delayed this launch which was going to happen on Wednesday
00:01:38and now it will happen on 17th as you were also speaking about it.
00:01:43So NASA astronauts Anne Macklin and Nicole Ayer, they are from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency,
00:01:52Takua Onishi and some more team members they were to leave for this particular mission
00:01:59but now it has got delayed and it will be further attempted on 17th of March.
00:02:04So they don't want to take any chances Pooja, I've seen and that's why they want to be super careful
00:02:09and that's why when they have detected hydraulic system issue with a ground support clamp arm for the Falcon 9 rocket.
00:02:18It's not going to be easy, remember days passing through this was, stay on with me Shivani,
00:02:23what was supposed to be barely a week to 10 days of mission has just, it's just getting delayed indefinitely.
00:02:29What we have now, I just want to quote from the official website from NASA,
00:02:35NASA and SpaceX have scrubbed the launch attempt of the agency's crew 10 mission to the International Space Station
00:02:42due to a hydraulic system issue with ground support clamp arm for the Falcon 9 rocket at launch complex.
00:02:48This is in NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
00:02:51Tell me this Shivani, because we've been waiting for their return,
00:02:56we're talking about not just them stuck somewhere, they are in space, it's microgravity,
00:03:02the impact on their health, their body, that also will start taking a toll,
00:03:07even though of course they are senior experienced astronauts and I'm sure they'll be able to take care of themselves.
00:03:12Certainly Pooja, see this has been a matter of concern for not only NASA but the people who are in that related field
00:03:23and all the people globally too, they've been worrying about the team and especially Sunita Williams
00:03:28who's been stuck for a very long time now, her return has already been delayed by several months
00:03:34and now whenever the attempts are being made, NASA is taking all care
00:03:39and they are also trying to help or support Sunita Williams and other crew members stuck out there
00:03:46to have a good health or whatever can be done from here to help them out because it's already a delay of a good time.
00:03:55So now once again when NASA is trying to relaunch another crew to help them out, to bring them back,
00:04:02they want to be careful without any mistakes and flaws.
00:04:05So this is another attempt that is going to be delayed with this particular hydraulic issue that has been detected now by NASA.
00:04:14They've been stuck in the space remember for 9 months now after they went in the Boeing Starliner
00:04:20which eventually they could not return and return remember is not just to bring them back.
00:04:25When you come into gravity, into Earth's surface, there are a lot of challenges that need to be taken care of
00:04:33and whether it's NASA, it's SpaceX, they want to be very sure that the astronauts, experienced senior ones will be brought back safely.
00:04:43Let's just hope it happens soon. 9 months, what was supposed to be 9 days of a mission.
00:04:48For now, these are the latest visuals they have been sharing consistently to say that at the ISS,
00:04:55which is the International Space Station, they've been doing fairly well and are even enjoying some of the festivals.
00:05:01But please understand, it's not going to be easy. They are in microgravity after all.
00:05:07So we have these latest news and Shivani, I want to stay on this.
00:05:12Let's just go back 9 months because I remember when they were sent,
00:05:16there was so much curiosity about the kind of experiment that they were going to be a part of
00:05:22and because they were senior astronauts, they had the experience, they had done similar missions before.
00:05:29But to even think that perhaps they also realized that it is an experiment of a kind but 9 days stretching to 9 months.
00:05:42Alright, Shivani continues to be with us. I'll go back to her in just a short while.
00:05:46Remember, we are not yet clear when the next launch opportunity will be.
00:05:50They are aiming it for next week. They are aiming it for 17th March.
00:05:53But for now, the reason for the scrub suggests that SpaceX and NASA could try to launch again in the coming days.
00:05:59A hydraulic system is basically used to control one of the two clamps that hold on to the upper portion of the rocket.
00:06:06It sits vertically on the ground pad before launch.
00:06:09So Shivani, if you can hear me, tell us more about the 9 months of the wait that we have been hearing.
00:06:17I remember she consistently sends out videos saying, look we are doing fairly well, we are celebrating festivals
00:06:23but you can also see the changes on their face, the impact on their body.
00:06:30So while they may be taking care of themselves, I think the scientists on the ground realized
00:06:35that eventually it's time bound too.
00:06:40Certainly Pooja, whenever a mission of this particular scale takes place,
00:06:45the results are unexpected, when the mission is going to land back on earth is unexpected
00:06:51and that's why we think that these astronauts, they are trained in that manner.
00:06:55When they go on that mission, they have all these preparations done to return,
00:07:00maybe not on the expected date, but yes, certainly this has been the longest mission
00:07:06that has been stuck for 9 months, delayed by 9 months, Pooja.
00:07:10And that's why we have been seeing consequences, we have been seeing significant impact on the health
00:07:15of Sunita Williams as and when she has been sending out those videos.
00:07:18Though she always looks brave, she always tries to look happy and safe, assured that she will be coming back soon.
00:07:28But yes, this is a concern, this is a worry for astronauts across the world, for NASA,
00:07:34for people related to this particular mission that happened to be one of the very important
00:07:39and a very crucial mission of NASA.
00:07:41And now Sunita Williams is expected to be back in a few more weeks,
00:07:47perhaps this particular mission that was to be launched today has got delayed due to a hydraulic issue
00:07:54that was detected just before the launch.
00:07:57And the best of the scientists, the best of the astronauts across the world have teamed up
00:08:02for this particular crew 10 launch, Pooja.
00:08:05And very soon we will be seeing that they depart from here and bring Sunita Williams back.
00:08:10Alright, keep tracking the latest and Shivani stay on with me.
00:08:13For the viewer in case wondering, why is it taking so long, why is it so difficult?
00:08:18Some of you may remember the incident of Kalpana Chawla for example and 6 others in 2003.
00:08:25Remember when they were returning, the challenger, the craft that they were in,
00:08:30that challenger had broken into pieces toward re-entering into earth, all of them have lost their life.
00:08:36A similar incident happened in 1986.
00:08:38So these are some of the past incidents that lay heavy on the mind of NASA officials
00:08:43and astronauts to ensure that the spacecraft they went in was returned without the astronauts
00:08:50because they weren't sure at that point of the status and therefore they want to be very clear
00:08:55that when these astronauts are brought back into earth, it has to be safe and sound.
00:09:00But take a look, remember even homecoming when it happens,
00:09:03it's going to be physical psychological challenges to readjust to earth's gravity
00:09:09compared to the situation right now that they have been in for over 9 months in space.
00:09:27A 10 day space odyssey that ended up lasting almost 10 months.
00:09:31But it will not be a normal homecoming.
00:09:35Williams and Wilmore will face difficulties to adapt to earth's gravity.
00:09:41The two may experience baby feet after extended space travel,
00:09:45which means they will lose the thick part of their skin as weightlessness causes food calluses to diminish.
00:09:51They may experience dizziness, vertigo and difficulty walking for the first few days.
00:09:57Even though astronauts exercise in space,
00:10:00muscles, especially in the legs and back, weaken due to reduced use.
00:10:04Prolonged weightlessness leads to bone density loss, increasing the risk of fractures.
00:10:10In space, fluids shift upwards and the heart does not have to work as hard to pump blood.
00:10:16They will require a period of cardiovascular recovery.
00:10:19They might experience spatial disorientation as the brain readjusts to the constant downward pull of gravity.
00:10:27To counter these effects, NASA and other space agencies have extensive rehabilitation programs
00:10:33involving physical therapy, medical monitoring and gradual reconditioning.
00:10:38After coming back from space, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore will take weeks to acclimatize.
00:10:45Bureau Report, India Today.
00:10:48Will Vladimir Putin now come to the negotiating table? Here's what it's looking like.
00:10:53Remember that USA and Ukraine have had a meeting in Saudi Arabia.
00:10:56They appear to have reached a certainty for the ceasefire, for a peace talk.
00:11:01But the ball is in Russia's court eventually.
00:11:03They are the ones who are a dominant force, who have invaded into Ukrainian territory
00:11:07and they'll have to decide what they need to do.
00:11:10Russia here says it's going to negotiate.
00:11:12They are the ones who are a dominant force, who have invaded into Ukrainian territory
00:11:14and they'll have to decide what they need to do.
00:11:16Russia here says it's going to negotiate.
00:11:18Studying the ceasefire terms, while America says the ball is in Putin's court.
00:11:22The question is, remember America has a peace plan.
00:11:25Ukraine for now appear to have accepted it.
00:11:28Will Putin agree to that?
00:11:30Great success yesterday.
00:11:39We have a full ceasefire.
00:11:42When it, if it kicks in, we have to see.
00:11:44It's up to Russia now.
00:11:46But we've had a good relationship with both parties actually.
00:11:50And we'll see, we'll be knowing people are going to Russia right now as we speak.
00:11:55And hopefully we can get a ceasefire from Russia.
00:11:58And if we do, I think that would be 80% of the way to getting this horrible bloodbath finished.
00:12:03It's a bloodbath that's taking place over there.
00:12:06We're going to know very soon.
00:12:08I've gotten some positive messages, but a positive message means nothing.
00:12:12This is a very serious situation.
00:12:14This is a situation that could lead to World War III.
00:12:18But there have definitely been big developments in a war that's been going on for three years now.
00:12:23Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agreeing for a 30-day ceasefire with the USA.
00:12:28The development comes after the talks that took place in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah.
00:12:32U.S. State Secretary Rubio has said that they will take the offer to Russia now.
00:12:37The ball will be in Moscow's court.
00:12:39But there's been a joint statement.
00:12:40America will immediately resume military aid and intel sharing with Ukraine.
00:12:45Security guarantees will be discussed further.
00:12:47But eventually, remember, it's not about the peace talk between USA and Ukraine.
00:12:51It has to be between Russia and Ukraine. Russia has to agree.
00:12:54Volodymyr Zelensky has stated, all depends on Russia now,
00:12:57and that Ukraine will not recognize the territories occupied by the Russians.
00:13:03But that has to come only once Russia agrees to what the plan is.
00:13:21Yes, in the format proposed by the American side.
00:13:26But still, we will discuss security guarantees in more detail.
00:13:32If there is a 30-day ceasefire,
00:13:35then these 30 days are allocated to put on paper.
00:13:41We have our proposals, but to put on paper
00:13:45the agreed steps with our allies
00:13:52and the formats of those or other security guarantees
00:13:55that will be in Ukraine after the end of this war.
00:14:15I think it's very serious. For me, it's important to end the war.
00:14:26I want the President of the United States of America to see it.
00:14:29I want the Americans to see it and feel it.
00:14:34And I want Europe to be united.
00:14:38I want to take you to Karnataka, because it's a gold smuggling nexus
00:14:41that the investigators are looking at.
00:14:43Was it just about one actress, Rania Rau,
00:14:45or possibly an international organization
00:14:48that was involved in smuggling gold?
00:14:51I want to take you to Karnataka, because it's a gold smuggling nexus
00:14:54that the investigators are looking at.
00:14:56Was it just about one actress, Rania Rau,
00:14:59or possibly an international organization
00:15:02that was involved in smuggling gold?
00:15:05Was it just about one actress, Rania Rau,
00:15:07or possibly an international layer here too?
00:15:10We are talking also about another co-accused,
00:15:12a hotel saiyan, Tarun Raju, who's been taken in custody.
00:15:15But during a bail hearing on Wednesday,
00:15:17Rania Rau accused DRI authorities
00:15:19of mental harassment during investigation.
00:15:22She's exclusively accessed details of how Rania Rau managed
00:15:25to evade customs security checks
00:15:27at the Kempegowra International Airport
00:15:29till a personal security check was done
00:15:31and the gold bars were found attached to her waist and legs.
00:15:34But now, it's turning political.
00:15:36Denying Congress links to the actress,
00:15:38Deputy CM D.K. Shiv Kumar,
00:15:39accusing BJP of spreading rumours,
00:15:41but this after a picture's image of her wedding.
00:15:44Chief Minister Siddharth Maya, Home Minister Jee Parmeshwara
00:15:47was seen attending the wedding ceremony
00:15:48and therefore the BJP jumping on it.
00:15:50The image is on your screen.
00:15:52For now, the Congress denies it and blames it on the BJP
00:15:55for actually showering her with political protection.
00:16:00Lot of newspaper has also carried out this information
00:16:04that couple of senior ministers
00:16:06have a close link with Rania Rau.
00:16:09This has emerged in the media also.
00:16:12Secondly, when a lady,
00:16:15on the humpty number of occasions,
00:16:17not once or twice,
00:16:19more than 30 times,
00:16:21she has gone outside country,
00:16:23whenever she had come back to India or Bangalore,
00:16:25security has been provided.
00:16:28No checking at the airport.
00:16:30So, this is a clear loot.
00:16:32Hawala is involved and there are many other senior ministers
00:16:35are also involved.
00:16:37What was necessary for state government to initiate enquiry
00:16:40when CBI is already investigating the matter.
00:16:43The only agenda of this Congress party, Siddharth Maya,
00:16:46is to cover up the issue.
00:16:48They have also started parallel investigation.
00:16:51Smuggling has increased in the last 3-4 months.
00:16:54They have a direct link with some ministers.
00:17:00There are also a lot of media reports.
00:17:04They are not doing anything about it.
00:17:07For everyone,
00:17:09central government, central government,
00:17:12what is the way?
00:17:13First, do an enquiry properly.
00:17:15What is their relation with which bureaucrat?
00:17:17What are they doing?
00:17:18Do an enquiry.
00:17:19Later, if you want to say something, say it.
00:17:22They are not doing anything.
00:17:23They are not doing an enquiry.
00:17:24Everyone is saying BJP, BJP.
00:17:26What is the meaning of saying central government?
00:17:51CBI is in whose hands?
00:18:20Under whose guidance is CBI running?
00:18:23Amit Shah ji?
00:18:24Can't they tell the two ministers that are involved?
00:18:28She was a starlet, an actress,
00:18:31but now is facing gold smuggling charges
00:18:34and possibly an international syndicate.
00:18:36The eye is not only on Rania Rao,
00:18:38but also on those who attended her VVIP wedding.
00:18:42All of that will be a part of the investigation now.
00:18:46Over a week since Rania Rao's smuggling ring was busted,
00:18:51several questions remain unanswered.
00:18:54In the custody of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence,
00:18:58the Kannada starlet has sought bail
00:19:01claiming her arrest is unjust
00:19:04and arrest norms were violated.
00:19:07India Today has accessed details
00:19:10on how Rania's smuggling racket was busted.
00:19:15First, actor who is the step-daughter of DGP rank officer Ramachandra Rao
00:19:21was intercepted at the airport and questioned at the green corridor.
00:19:26But Rania claimed she had no gold or contraband on her to declare.
00:19:32A claim that was debunked at the metal detector door test.
00:19:37A personal check revealed concealed gold on her waist,
00:19:42calves, shoes and pockets.
00:19:45The recovered gold is worth over 12 crore rupees
00:19:49and weighed over 14 kilograms.
00:19:52A raid at her residence later led to the seizure of cash and jewellery.
00:19:59A wedding picture has added to the buzz around the racket.
00:20:03Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, Home Minister G. Parmeshwara
00:20:07were seen smiling next to Rania.
00:20:10Her husband and her step-father DGP at her wedding.
00:20:16The Congress and the BJP are locked in a blame game
00:20:19each accusing the other of links to the smuggler starlet.
00:20:40Can't they tell the two ministers that are involved?
00:20:43Rania's architect husband is also under the CBI radar now
00:20:47for taking frequent trips to Dubai.
00:20:51Bureau report, India Today.
00:21:02There is presently a political clash in Tamil Nadu among the parties
00:21:06over Tamil Dravidian politics icon Periyar
00:21:09and the national language policy controversy.
00:21:12Remember this is at a time when the Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
00:21:15with remarks on otherwise seen as Dravidian politics icon.
00:21:19She slammed DMK that you worship Periyar, you garland him
00:21:23but he is the one who had said Tamil language cannot even help beggars get alms.
00:21:28That he called the language as barbaric.
00:21:32It drew sharp criticism from Dravidian minister Karagam
00:21:35saying that these words are very odd for her to be speaking.
00:21:39Actor turned Neta, TVK chief Vijay defended the Tamil icon
00:21:42accusing BJP of using Periyar to divert criticism.
00:21:45But in many ways this is at the centre of the language controversy right now.
00:21:50So let's listen in to what did the Union Minister say
00:21:53that DMK forcing people to idolise Periyar
00:21:56but he has a lot of statements that he has made
00:21:59which are controversial too with regard to Tamil Nadu.
00:22:29His photo is there.
00:22:31They garland him and they worship him
00:22:33and they say he is the icon of Dravidian movement.
00:22:36But he said Tamil is Katmarandi Prashe.
00:22:39So sir, I am saying
00:22:43unbelievable that this person is worshipped
00:22:49but our poor Dharmendra Pradhan just said
00:22:52don't do uncivil protest, he is being accused.
00:22:55And if their love for Tamil is so much
00:22:58how can they worship somebody who said Tamil is Katmarandi Prashe.
00:23:28Liberation Army also issued a statement saying
00:23:31that they have killed 50 hostages,
00:23:34they have killed 100 Pakistan personnel
00:23:36and they have released women and children hostages specifically.
00:23:40Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif breaking silence
00:23:43after 30 hours of hijack condemning the attack
00:23:45says this was a cowardly attack
00:23:47and it will not shake Pakistan's resolve for peace.
00:23:50The world may be moving on
00:23:51but there are two senior experienced astronauts
00:23:53who haven't been able to return to earth.
00:23:55It was a mission supposed to be of 9 days.
00:23:58It has turned into 9 months
00:24:00for Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore.
00:24:02Remember in microgravity for this extended period of time
00:24:05and then the readjustment to earth will be a challenge in itself.
00:24:09But what happened this time?
00:24:10Less than an hour to go before the liftoff
00:24:13SpaceX postponed the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket from Florida
00:24:17due to a hydraulic system issue with the ground support.
00:24:20This was informed and officially confirmed by NASA's Kennedy Center.
00:24:25But there's another launch window we are told
00:24:27Indian standard time tomorrow 9 a.m. possibly that can happen.
00:24:31Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore
00:24:33likely will leave the International Space Station
00:24:35if all goes well on the 17th of March.
00:24:38But we've seen how the previous delays
00:24:40and to ensure that the safe return happens
00:24:44there may be perhaps further delays.
00:24:47I want to immediately bring in India Today's Pramod Madhav
00:24:50He closely tracks the space news and importantly this case
00:24:55which is just with twists and turns constantly escalating.
00:24:58Pramod good morning.
00:24:59We're all waiting eagerly for Indian origin Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore.
00:25:04What a mission this was.
00:25:06But what are you picking up about the details?
00:25:08Another delay and why?
00:25:10Good morning Pooja.
00:25:12The initial delay was that the actual mission plan was for
00:25:15Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore
00:25:17to be in space in International Space Station for 9 to 10 days.
00:25:20But unfortunately due to this Boeing Starliner capsule
00:25:23like certain technical issues it was delayed.
00:25:26However, like the Boeing Starliner did reach Earth safely still.
00:25:31Sunita Williams had to stay there for like quite a long period.
00:25:34And then there was it also turned political
00:25:36with Trump becoming the president
00:25:38and him getting the support from Elon Musk
00:25:41and stating that like there has been certain kind of issues
00:25:44politically that led to the delay of Sunita Williams
00:25:47Now the capsule line is going to actually
00:25:49take this crew for International Space Station
00:25:53that is crew number 10.
00:25:54And it's going to replace crew number 9.
00:25:56Along with that Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore
00:25:58are supposed to reach Earth.
00:26:00There was a technical snag
00:26:02but the ground staffs have very clearly mentioned
00:26:05that it will be taken care of soon.
00:26:07So by 13th March there will be another launch
00:26:10and by 16th we are expecting Sunita Williams to reach Earth.
00:26:15Stay on with me Pramod please
00:26:17because I also want to bring in my colleague
00:26:19who is clearly an expert on this issue.
00:26:21Sibu Tripathi is India Today's Senior Assistant Editor Science.
00:26:25Sibu you tell me
00:26:26because I am sure you are tracking for the past 9 months
00:26:29the constant delays, the unpredictability,
00:26:31the uncertainty of this mission.
00:26:33First tell me what is the delay about?
00:26:35When can we expect the next launch?
00:26:37And then tell us also about the impact
00:26:40to stay in microgravity for 9 months
00:26:42even though they are experienced astronauts
00:26:44but it wouldn't be easy I am sure.
00:26:46Good morning Pooja.
00:26:48So what has happened basically
00:26:50is the SpaceX was supposed to launch
00:26:52a crew 10 this morning.
00:26:54However there was a hydraulic system issue
00:26:56is what NASA is saying
00:26:58with one of the retractable arms
00:27:00on the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.
00:27:02Therefore this launch has now once again
00:27:04been delayed to another day.
00:27:06So the launch is now expected to happen
00:27:08tomorrow morning sometime around 5 am.
00:27:10And then the Dragon spacecraft
00:27:12will take over 12 hours
00:27:14to basically travel in space
00:27:16and rendezvous with the International Space Station.
00:27:19This is a highly maneuvered
00:27:21and orchestrated event.
00:27:23So the docking is expected to happen
00:27:25sometime around, on Saturday.
00:27:28So for India time,
00:27:29Saturday sometime around 11.30 am
00:27:31the docking is expected to happen.
00:27:33Now once the docking happens
00:27:35the 4 astronauts part of 10
00:27:37will enter the space station
00:27:39and the 4 astronauts part of crew 9
00:27:41who are currently in space
00:27:43living on space station
00:27:44will come back to earth.
00:27:46Now in these 4 astronauts
00:27:48who are part of crew 9 currently on space station
00:27:50are NASA astronauts Sunita Williams
00:27:52and Butch Wilmore.
00:27:54The 2 astronauts initially went
00:27:56in space last year
00:27:58on just an 8 day mission.
00:28:00On a Boeing Starliner spacecraft.
00:28:02This was a test mission, this was a demo mission
00:28:04to certify that Starliner was fit
00:28:06to carry humans and then bring them back.
00:28:08Unfortunately during the
00:28:12during launch and docking
00:28:14there were several technical issues
00:28:16that were detected on Starliner.
00:28:18And then it was deemed that it cannot be
00:28:20fit to bring back the astronauts safely home.
00:28:22So Starliner undocked empty
00:28:24and landed on earth safely.
00:28:26Now what this means was
00:28:28Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore
00:28:308 day mission had to be extended.
00:28:32Therefore the mission has now
00:28:34lasted close to 8-9 months.
00:28:36The plan has long been
00:28:38that they will be brought
00:28:40back home. There has been several
00:28:42delays.
00:28:44Tell me now, now that
00:28:46you are telling me how there are these constant delays
00:28:48what is your assessment of
00:28:50the impact, physical, psychological.
00:28:52They look alright, they share videos
00:28:54and images of them even celebrating festivals.
00:28:56But you can see a change on
00:28:58the face, I am sure there is an
00:29:00impact on the body and then there will be
00:29:02a bigger challenge when they return to earth
00:29:04to adjust to gravity here as well.
00:29:06Definitely.
00:29:08They have been living in zero gravity
00:29:10for close to 9 months now.
00:29:12This has huge toll
00:29:14not just physically but also psychologically.
00:29:16However we know these are NASA astronauts
00:29:18these are trained air force pilots
00:29:20and psychologically they are extremely fit.
00:29:22When it comes to physical fitness
00:29:24NASA has a very strict
00:29:26regimen to keep them fit in space
00:29:28which includes highly
00:29:30maintained regulated diet,
00:29:32consistently doing exercises in zero gravity
00:29:34NASA has developed special
00:29:36gyming equipment for them to
00:29:38keep exercising and keep their bones
00:29:40healthy to maintain the density of
00:29:42those bones. Recently
00:29:44Sunita Williams
00:29:46and Butch Wilmore, they both had a
00:29:48press conference from this station
00:29:50where they said how it is difficult to adapt
00:29:52to gravity once they land back.
00:29:54They said that since
00:29:56they have been in space for 8 months
00:29:58it will be a day on day process to adjust
00:30:00to the gravity on earth.
00:30:02So it will take them 7-8 months
00:30:04to fully adjust to the gravity on earth
00:30:06and to come back to their full shape.
00:30:08Sunita Williams and
00:30:10Wilmore even went to the extent of saying
00:30:12that even lifting a pencil will be like doing
00:30:14a workout. So definitely it has
00:30:16a physical toll but then we also know
00:30:18that these are trained astronauts, these are veteran
00:30:20astronauts.
00:30:22I do have a question here then
00:30:24when is the next window of opportunity
00:30:26that we have? When do you think the next launch
00:30:28can possibly happen? Are we looking at
00:30:30Monday now, 17th March?
00:30:32No. So the launch is
00:30:34SpaceX has a backup date.
00:30:36The backup date is for tomorrow
00:30:38which is Friday for us, for India time.
00:30:40The launch is expected to happen
00:30:42tomorrow morning around 5 AM.
00:30:44What this delay means
00:30:46is that the undocking is now
00:30:48expected to happen a day later. So it was
00:30:50initially supposed to happen on Sunday.
00:30:52The undocking is now expected to
00:30:54happen on Monday. But then this also depends
00:30:56on weather factors, orbital
00:30:58parameters of how the undocking
00:31:00will take place. So we will get a much more
00:31:02clarity once the launch happens.
00:31:04I request you Sibu to please stay
00:31:06on with me because I want the
00:31:08viewer to look at what
00:31:10kind of an experience is it in microgravity.
00:31:12A mission that is meant for
00:31:149 days going up to 9 months.
00:31:16There is physical, psychological challenge
00:31:18not just in microgravity, zero gravity
00:31:20but also when they are
00:31:22returning to earth to adjust
00:31:24to earth's gravity.
00:31:26Here's what's happening in space right now.
00:31:54The two may experience
00:31:56baby feet after extended
00:31:58space travel, which means
00:32:00they will lose the thick part of their skin
00:32:02as weightlessness causes
00:32:04food calluses to diminish.
00:32:06They may experience dizziness,
00:32:08vertigo and difficulty
00:32:10walking for the first few days.
00:32:12Even though astronauts exercise
00:32:14in space, muscles especially
00:32:16in the legs and back weaken due to
00:32:18reduced use. Prolonged
00:32:20weightlessness leads to bone density
00:32:22loss, increasing the risk
00:32:24of fractures. In space,
00:32:26fluids shift upwards
00:32:28and the heart does not have to work as hard
00:32:30to pump blood. They will require a
00:32:32period of cardiovascular recovery.
00:32:34They might experience spatial
00:32:36disorientation as the brain
00:32:38readjusts to the constant downward pull
00:32:40of gravity.
00:32:42To counter these effects,
00:32:44NASA and other space agencies
00:32:46have extensive rehabilitation
00:32:48programs involving physical
00:32:50therapy, medical monitoring
00:32:52and gradual reconditioning.
00:32:54After coming back from space,
00:32:56Sunita Williams and Butch Willmore
00:32:58will take weeks to acclimatize.
00:33:00Bureau Report, India Today.
00:33:21What was supposed to be a nine-day mission?
00:33:23Look closely. We have prepared a timeline for you.
00:33:255th of June 2024, last year,
00:33:27mission launch happened. It was about
00:33:2910 days mission that then eventually
00:33:31got extended starting
00:33:33because there was a leak on the Boeing
00:33:35Starliner. All of this, remember, was
00:33:37an experiment mission that they were going on.
00:33:39By the month of August, we knew
00:33:41that the return has been delayed.
00:33:43Announcement was made by NASA
00:33:45but that return could be delayed
00:33:47even by next year. So this
00:33:49was expected. By December,
00:33:51further return delays happened.
00:33:53Remember, because even the return for
00:33:55March has to be prepared in advance.
00:33:57So therefore, NASA delayed the return further
00:33:59to March-April 2025,
00:34:01looking at all sorts of preparations
00:34:03for a safe and a smooth
00:34:05return. By February, that is about
00:34:07a month ago, in 2025,
00:34:09controversy erupted. Trump saying
00:34:11both astronauts appear to
00:34:13have been abandoned and that he has
00:34:15pledged that he will ensure
00:34:17they are returned safely and soon.
00:34:19And now, by the month of March,
00:34:21the final return countdown
00:34:23had started. It started though
00:34:25but it appears due to a hydraulic
00:34:27system issue on the ground clamp,
00:34:29there is still a further delay
00:34:31and that's what we are looking at. I want to go
00:34:33across to Sibu Tripathi. He's India Today's
00:34:35Senior Assistant Editor of Science. He's an
00:34:37expert on this matter and I know Sibu
00:34:39has been tracking this story
00:34:41since the day the
00:34:43spacecraft was launched.
00:34:45Sibu, tell me this, I'm very curious
00:34:47to know, as and when the launch happens
00:34:49of the spacecraft, tell us for the
00:34:51viewer, to me included,
00:34:53how much time will it take to reach
00:34:55space for the ISS, for
00:34:57them to be able to enter into the spacecraft
00:34:59and then return to Earth?
00:35:01What duration are we looking at?
00:35:03So Pooja,
00:35:05tomorrow morning,
00:35:07if the launch happens, the launch is scheduled
00:35:09at 5 am. If it happens,
00:35:11the Dragon spacecraft
00:35:13will launch aboard the Elon Musk
00:35:15SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
00:35:17It will take about 8 minutes to
00:35:19basically go into space once the
00:35:21second stage detaches.
00:35:23Dragon spacecraft will move ahead. Then
00:35:25there is a 12 hour long journey. We also
00:35:27have to know that there are 4 astronauts
00:35:29sitting inside this spacecraft
00:35:31as they travel to the International Space Station.
00:35:33After the
00:35:3512 hour long journey, they'll
00:35:37basically rendezvous with the International
00:35:39Space Station around Earth.
00:35:41Once the docking happens, the 4 astronauts
00:35:43will transfer into the Space Station.
00:35:45Now this is where it gets interesting because
00:35:47for the next one week, there will be a
00:35:49series of handovers that will take place.
00:35:51We have to know that Swetha Williams
00:35:53during her extended stay was made the
00:35:55commander of the Space Station.
00:35:57She was responsible for most of the science
00:35:59work that was going on, research that was going on.
00:36:01She also conducted
00:36:03a couple of spacewalks
00:36:05during which she collected
00:36:07microbes from the International Space Station body.
00:36:09In the next one week,
00:36:11this handover will happen. Once the handover
00:36:13is completed, NASA
00:36:15says that everything is fine. Then the
00:36:174 astronauts, which includes
00:36:19Swetha Williams and Butch Wilmore,
00:36:21they'll enter inside
00:36:23the Dragon spacecraft. They have been training
00:36:25for several months now
00:36:27into simulation on the computers
00:36:29about how to fly back.
00:36:31Once they enter the
00:36:33Dragon spacecraft, they'll undock
00:36:35from the Space Station. And then there is
00:36:37another 12-hour long journey
00:36:39to basically splashdown
00:36:41in the Gulf
00:36:43of Florida.
00:36:45So this entire
00:36:47timeline for this event
00:36:49is close to a week. It all depends
00:36:51on what will be the weather conditions
00:36:53in the splashdown area
00:36:55a week from now. So we are expecting
00:36:57this to happen sometime around Monday.
00:36:59We'll get much more clarity in the coming days
00:37:01once the launch happens and it talks with the Space Station.
00:37:03So it's a minute-to-minute
00:37:05assessment, basically, by NASA officials,
00:37:07by the SpaceX as well. And I'm sure
00:37:09everyone wants them to return, but it also
00:37:11does raise a big question mark
00:37:13of the kind of
00:37:15challenges that comes with a mission like this,
00:37:17the uncertainty that comes with
00:37:19a mission like this. Stay on with
00:37:21me, Sibu, please, because remember
00:37:23her health appears to have weakened,
00:37:25but clearly the spirit is resilient.
00:37:27Both Sunita and Butch Wilmore have said
00:37:29that they are taking
00:37:31good care of themselves, but many are
00:37:33wondering what happened in the first
00:37:35place. Why were they stranded
00:37:37after the 10-day mission
00:37:39itself? India Today decodes
00:37:41here.
00:37:57She is waiting to return
00:37:59after nine long months in space.
00:38:01She has lost weight, but
00:38:03not her spirits.
00:38:05It has been a long wait and
00:38:07uncertainty for her family and
00:38:09friends. It brings
00:38:11to mind family and all the
00:38:13people on the ground who support us.
00:38:15It's been a rollercoaster
00:38:17for them, probably a little bit more
00:38:19so than for us. We're here,
00:38:21we have a mission, we're just
00:38:23doing what we do every day, and
00:38:25every day is interesting because we're up in space
00:38:27and it's a lot of fun.
00:38:29I think the hardest part is
00:38:31having the folks on the ground have to
00:38:33not know exactly when we're coming
00:38:35back. Know, of course, that we are coming
00:38:37back with Crew 9, but
00:38:39all of that uncertainty
00:38:41I think is probably the most difficult part
00:38:43and it takes a little time
00:38:45just to have that conversation
00:38:47with them on a daily basis and say, hey, we're coming
00:38:49back before long, so
00:38:51don't make all those plans without me.
00:38:53We'll be back before too long.
00:38:59Barry Butch Wilmore
00:39:01and Sunita Williams blasted
00:39:03off on a test mission to the
00:39:05International Space Station on 5th
00:39:07June 2024.
00:39:17They were expecting to be back home in a
00:39:19matter of days, a week to be
00:39:21specific, but things
00:39:23did not quite go to plan.
00:39:2558-year-old
00:39:27Sunita Williams and Butch
00:39:29Wilmore flew a Boeing Starliner
00:39:31spacecraft to the International
00:39:33Space Station. It was
00:39:35the first flight of its kind
00:39:37with people on board and was a test
00:39:39designed to see how
00:39:41the new spacecraft performs
00:39:43before it is used more regularly.
00:39:57Alright,
00:40:01going in through the
00:40:03IDA, the docking
00:40:05adapter and then into
00:40:07the spacecraft.
00:40:09Here we are. Looks like
00:40:11a lot of bags because there's
00:40:13a lot of packing and also this big
00:40:15orange thing which is our ventilation
00:40:17that we get from the space station
00:40:19while we are docked to the space station.
00:40:21Problems,
00:40:23however, emerged as
00:40:25it made its approach to the station.
00:40:27Five of Starliner's
00:40:2928 maneuvering thrusters
00:40:31went dead during its
00:40:3324-hour trek to the International
00:40:35Space Station. A propellant
00:40:37valve failed to properly close
00:40:39and there were five leaks of helium
00:40:41which is used to pressurize the
00:40:43thrusters. So while they
00:40:45made it to the space station safely,
00:40:47they were not able to get home
00:40:49as planned. Within days,
00:40:51a cargo spacecraft reached
00:40:53the International Space Station
00:40:55to deliver food, fuel and
00:40:57other supplies for the crew.
00:40:59And then, on 24th August,
00:41:01NASA announced that Williams
00:41:03and Wilmore would not return
00:41:05to Earth until early
00:41:072025.
00:41:09NASA has decided that
00:41:11Butch and Sunny will
00:41:13return with Crew 9
00:41:15next February.
00:41:17And that
00:41:19Starliner
00:41:21will return uncrewed.
00:41:23Sunita and
00:41:25Butch reassured everyone
00:41:27from the space that they will continue
00:41:29safely and wait patiently.
00:41:31Obviously, when you have
00:41:33issues like we've had,
00:41:35there's some changes that need to be made.
00:41:37Boeing's on board with that. We're all
00:41:39on board with that. And I can tell you,
00:41:41when you push the edge of the envelope
00:41:43again and you do things with spacecraft
00:41:45that have never been done before, just like
00:41:47Starliner, you're going to find some things
00:41:49and in this case, we found some things
00:41:51that we just could not
00:41:53get comfortable with
00:41:55putting us back in the Starliner
00:41:57when we had other options.
00:41:59Sunita Williams
00:42:01conducted numerous experiments
00:42:03and spent 900 hours
00:42:05in scientific research at
00:42:07the International Space Station.
00:42:09And festivals came and went
00:42:11as months passed by.
00:42:13Greetings from the International Space Station.
00:42:15Our crew up here
00:42:17just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving
00:42:19to all our friends and family
00:42:21who are down on Earth and everyone who is
00:42:23supporting us. The summer,
00:42:25the autumn went by
00:42:27and soon it was winter
00:42:29and time to turn the page to a new year.
00:42:31And they prepared to
00:42:33celebrate in up there
00:42:35in the space station, stranded
00:42:37and waiting to return.
00:42:39Welcome to the International Space Station
00:42:41as we get ready for the Christmas
00:42:43holidays. It's a great time
00:42:45of year up here. We get to spend it
00:42:47with all of our family
00:42:49up on the International Space Station.
00:42:51There's seven of us up here and so we're
00:42:53going to get to enjoy company together.
00:42:55And of course, Christmas
00:42:57is Christ. Hallelujah.
00:42:59A savior is born.
00:43:03So from all of us to all
00:43:05of you, Merry
00:43:07Christmas.
00:43:09In the new year, they ventured out
00:43:11for a spacewalk and on the
00:43:13Earth, President of the United States
00:43:15changed and Donald Trump
00:43:17wanted them back at the earliest.
00:43:19A deadline was set
00:43:21and SpaceX and Tesla owner
00:43:23Trump Card of the new
00:43:25administration took it up himself
00:43:27to bring the two stranded astronauts
00:43:29back home. Sunita
00:43:31Williams handed over command of the
00:43:33International Space Station to
00:43:35Roscosmos cosmonaut
00:43:37Alexey Ovchinn on 7th
00:43:39March.
00:43:41I wish you good luck,
00:43:43nominal descent,
00:43:45soft landing
00:43:47and all the best.
00:43:49Don't worry, you are leaving station
00:43:51in good hands.
00:43:53We will miss you.
00:43:55Okay, thank you for everybody for joining us
00:43:57and we have cake
00:43:59to celebrate the situation.
00:44:01We are always ready.
00:44:05Euroreport, India Today.
00:44:07While cracking jokes
00:44:09in zero gravity in space
00:44:11takes a lot of mental strength
00:44:13to keep that going even though most of your
00:44:15other colleagues have been heading back
00:44:17towards. The actress Rania
00:44:19Rao statement has been accessed. She does
00:44:21not reveal identity on if there is a
00:44:23kingpin in this case because
00:44:25remember the investigators are looking at
00:44:27if there is a nexus, a syndicate
00:44:29possibly of an international stature.
00:44:31Actress Rania Rao says
00:44:33that she did receive
00:44:35calls.
00:44:37It came with instructions
00:44:39and remember what we are telling you
00:44:41is a big exclusive right now.
00:44:43Rania Rao added
00:44:45that the handler who she was coordinating
00:44:47with had an African
00:44:49American accent.
00:44:51Was this individual based in India?
00:44:53Abroad? In which
00:44:55country? Who was he? Because there is
00:44:57clearly someone who was helping
00:44:59organize this and
00:45:01the woman has been caught in the net
00:45:03but now the investigators
00:45:05are after who is the main kingpin
00:45:07and handler. She is not revealing the
00:45:09identity. This I am quoting
00:45:11from the statement she has given to the
00:45:13investigators accessed only by
00:45:15India today and not
00:45:17revealing while the identity of the kingpin.
00:45:19She has very categorically said that he has had
00:45:21an African American accent and
00:45:23possibly in the days to come remember with further
00:45:25questioning there will be more details.
00:45:27Now he said
00:45:29according to the details coming in about the Dubai
00:45:31airport encounter. He told me
00:45:33he would be wearing a white gown at the Dubai
00:45:35airport. We agreed to meet
00:45:37at the gate A of the terminal
00:45:39and that is when he
00:45:41handed over the gold bars
00:45:43after a security check.
00:45:45So there was definitely someone
00:45:47who handed over gold
00:45:49bars after a security
00:45:51check to her and left
00:45:53right after. I never
00:45:55saw him, never met him
00:45:57again and said that he
00:45:59was a fairly tall man describing
00:46:01him clearly. Six feet tall
00:46:03fair skinned.
00:46:05This was at the Dubai airport
00:46:07from where possibly when she was
00:46:09leaving for the Bengaluru Kempegowda International
00:46:11Airport. She took these
00:46:13gold bars but it was not her
00:46:15day. She got caught at
00:46:17the airport. Sagai Raj
00:46:19gets us that big exclusive. Sagai
00:46:21you have been tracking all the latest on this.
00:46:23Tell us what do we make
00:46:25of this key highlight that there is definitely
00:46:27a whole handler nexus.
00:46:29There is a bigger syndicate here
00:46:31and someone who
00:46:33was fully involved even at Dubai airport.
00:46:37Absolutely.
00:46:39The story which has been narrated by Rania Rao
00:46:41is nothing lesser than
00:46:43a crime thriller because
00:46:45she claims that a tall six feet
00:46:47man came to Dubai airport
00:46:49and handed over two boxes
00:46:51of gold and she took to the
00:46:53restroom and she
00:46:55kept it and she watched a YouTube video
00:46:57to how to pack
00:46:59those golds on body. She used
00:47:01the bandage and
00:47:03various other tapes to ensure
00:47:05that the gold bars are fixed
00:47:07on her body. And later on
00:47:09she also claims that she called some
00:47:11foreign number and
00:47:13the foreign number only narrated her
00:47:15that who will be coming and handing over the
00:47:17box and they didn't even give any
00:47:19kind of reference who is that person, what is his name
00:47:21and other thing. And she has also
00:47:23mentioned that she was
00:47:25asked to deliver at airport
00:47:27toll plaza. So once she gets
00:47:29down at international airport
00:47:31she need to cross the airport
00:47:33road and there is a toll near
00:47:35Bengaluru international airport. Once
00:47:37you cross that airport there is
00:47:39a service road. In the service road
00:47:41there is a auto rickshaw
00:47:43and you have to keep the gold
00:47:45in the auto rickshaw.
00:47:47And she claims that she was not even
00:47:49informed the number of that auto rickshaw.
00:47:51She was just instructed
00:47:53that she need to keep the
00:47:55smuggled gold bars in that particular
00:47:57auto rickshaw and leave from
00:47:59there. And she also claims that
00:48:01she is trying to do this for the first
00:48:03time. She doesn't know who is the syndicate
00:48:05who are the people who try to contact.
00:48:07She was just being instructed this and
00:48:09she also... These are her claims that she is doing
00:48:11it for the first time. Of course this will be investigated
00:48:13further. Sagar, stay on with me because
00:48:15we are putting out more information that you have brought
00:48:17here and the gold
00:48:19was in two plastic covered packets
00:48:21is how she has revealed the
00:48:23details because the investigators are asking
00:48:25that you cannot have possibly pulled
00:48:27this off alone. She says
00:48:29I attached the gold bars to
00:48:31my body in the airport restroom.
00:48:33Why is this important? That
00:48:35means she did not have the gold bars
00:48:37in Dubai till she
00:48:39cleared the Dubai security check.
00:48:41There is someone else at the Dubai
00:48:43airport who had the gold bars.
00:48:45After her security check was done gave
00:48:47it to her so that the Dubai airport
00:48:49officials possibly don't get
00:48:51suspicious over this issue.
00:48:53She hid the gold in jeans and shoes
00:48:55attached it to her body.
00:48:57I learned to do this
00:48:59from YouTube videos.
00:49:01I bought crepe bandages and scissors
00:49:03at the airport.
00:49:05This is absolutely shocking and
00:49:07Sagar you are rightly saying this sounds like
00:49:09full on a film script,
00:49:11a spy crime thriller but this
00:49:13also shows that in some way
00:49:15she realized that
00:49:17she was indulging in something
00:49:19that is illegal.
00:49:45Now she is claiming that she is
00:49:47innocent is not viable.
00:49:49Her father is a
00:49:51DGP rank officer, IPS officer
00:49:53in Karnataka. If someone is
00:49:55threatening or forcing you to do
00:49:57you can always inform your
00:49:59father or any other senior officer
00:50:01because she had connection
00:50:03to Home Minister and Chief Minister
00:50:05who attended the marriage of
00:50:07Rangya Rao. So she had
00:50:09well established contacts but
00:50:11she preferred to do this kind of
00:50:13illegal activities. Clearly shows
00:50:15that she was not
00:50:17innocent in this entire smuggling racket.
00:50:43And I never saw him again, never met him
00:50:45again. He left right after but he
00:50:47handed me the bars after my security
00:50:49check. So after she cleared it, she clearly
00:50:51did not have it when her security
00:50:53check was being done at the Dubai airport
00:50:55but someone met her who she was in touch with
00:50:57who gave her the gold bars and
00:50:59when she landed in India
00:51:01at the Bengaluru International Airport
00:51:03the tip off had reached
00:51:05the Indian authorities by then who had
00:51:07been tracking her. She evaded
00:51:09security checks but
00:51:11when a personal security check was done
00:51:13exactly what she
00:51:15mentions was found. That she
00:51:17learning from YouTube videos
00:51:19hid the gold in jeans and shoes
00:51:21attached it to her body
00:51:23with a modified jacket. The gold was
00:51:25given to her in two plastic covered packets.
00:51:27Who wanted?
00:51:29I take that question to you. This is my concern
00:51:31here. When she brings in
00:51:33these gold bars, are the investigators
00:51:35looking at just that she
00:51:37wanted to purchase the gold, keep it
00:51:39with her or was she going to
00:51:41transfer it to someone in India?
00:51:45She says that she was clueless because
00:51:47they had instructed her saying that
00:51:49once you get down from the airport, you need to
00:51:51take your car and head towards
00:51:53Kempegowda International
00:51:55Airport toll plaza. So whoever
00:51:57is visiting Bengaluru, they know that there
00:51:59is a huge toll plaza
00:52:01near Kempegowda International Airport. Once you
00:52:03cross that, there is a service road
00:52:05and in that service road, you will
00:52:07find an auto rickshaw. And you need to
00:52:09give this gold to
00:52:11that auto rickshaw. You need to keep the gold
00:52:13inside the auto rickshaw. And she claims
00:52:15that they didn't even give
00:52:17the auto rickshaw number, registration
00:52:19number. So she was just instructed
00:52:21to keep the gold in the auto
00:52:23rickshaw. So she claims that
00:52:25she doesn't know who has given the gold, doesn't
00:52:27know where she is delivering. But still
00:52:29she was being asked to smuggle the gold
00:52:31from Dubai to Bengaluru.
00:52:33Sir, I keep tracking the latest because
00:52:35this is just absolutely shocking.
00:52:37The kind of twist and turns. And perhaps
00:52:39she realised that she was also
00:52:41indulging with someone
00:52:43realising this could actually prove to be
00:52:45trouble. She believed she could evade it
00:52:47but the law caught up with her.
00:52:49So guys, thank you very much for now because the probe
00:52:51is intensifying in this case.
00:52:53It's a gold smuggling racket that has emerged from
00:52:55Karnataka but is unravelling at
00:52:57a speed which is shocking to say the
00:52:59least. We are talking about an actress,
00:53:01a co-accused, a hotel scion,
00:53:03who has also been taken in custody, Tarun Raju.
00:53:05Now, it was a bail hearing
00:53:07on Wednesday where Rane Rao accused the
00:53:09DRI authorities of
00:53:11harassment, especially psychological
00:53:13harassment during the investigation.
00:53:15India Today has exclusively accessed details
00:53:17now, how she evaded the
00:53:19customs and the security checks
00:53:21at the Kempegowda International Airport
00:53:23till the officials
00:53:25got too suspicious and decided to
00:53:27do a personal direct
00:53:29security check of her
00:53:31realizing there were gold bars attached to her.
00:53:33But political tensions are rising.
00:53:35Now, denying any
00:53:37link to the actress,
00:53:39the Congress party's deputy CM
00:53:41DK Shivkumar has said, BJP
00:53:43is spreading rumours. Look at these pictures
00:53:45coming up on your screen. It's the wedding picture
00:53:47where you can see the chief minister,
00:53:49the home minister of the state at the wedding.
00:53:51So the BJP has jumped in on this saying that
00:53:53clearly because you were at the wedding, you know the
00:53:55family too well. The Congress is saying
00:53:57it's the former BJP government who
00:53:59actually were giving lands
00:54:01and other benefits to this actress.
00:54:03So it's a political blame game right now. The question is
00:54:05will there be a Neta
00:54:07whose name could crop up now in this
00:54:09smuggling syndicate.
00:54:11Lot of newspaper has
00:54:13also carried out this information
00:54:15that couple of senior ministers
00:54:17have a close link with
00:54:19Rania Rao.
00:54:21This has emerged in the media also.
00:54:23Secondly,
00:54:25when a lady on the
00:54:27umpteen number of occasions, not once
00:54:29or twice, more than 30
00:54:31times, she has
00:54:33gone outside country. Whenever she had come
00:54:35back to India or Bangalore,
00:54:37security has been provided.
00:54:39No checking at the airport.
00:54:41So this is a clear loot.
00:54:43Hawala is involved and there are many
00:54:45other senior ministers are also involved.
00:54:47What was necessary for
00:54:49state government to initiate enquiry
00:54:51when CBIED is already investigating
00:54:53the matter? The only
00:54:55agenda of this Congress party
00:54:57is to cover up the issue.
00:54:59They have also started parallel
00:55:01investigation.

00:59:12Bureau report, India Today.
00:59:22A shocking incident of civic apathy
00:59:24emerging in Bengaluru leading to the loss of life of a woman.
00:59:28Electrocution.
00:59:29A naked buyer falls on a woman who simply
00:59:31went to a water pump.
00:59:34Look at this.
00:59:36Now people can die for any reason.
00:59:39A woman died at the civic body water pump
00:59:42where she'd gone to fetch water.
00:59:44But because there was a naked buyer that either landed on her
00:59:48and clearly once, you know, especially
00:59:51when there's water around, she got electrocuted
00:59:54within seconds and died.
00:59:56How is all this out in the open?
00:59:58What kind of a water pump is this?
01:00:00You can clearly see this is in a sort of a residential area.
01:00:04People have to pass through this to be
01:00:06able to reach their destination.
01:00:08This is, remember, we're talking
01:00:10about a big cosmopolitan city that's
01:00:12facing this situation where a woman can
01:00:15die because of electrocution.
01:00:18And our editor Nagarjun Dwarkana joins me from Bengaluru.
01:00:22Nagarjun, good morning.
01:00:24Tell me about the incident.
01:00:25What happened?
01:00:26Because even as I look at these visuals, it's jarring.
01:00:29It's shocking.
01:00:29Nobody should have to go through this.
01:00:33Good morning, Pooja.
01:00:34This incident occurred at 5.30 AM this morning,
01:00:36is what we are told.
01:00:37Look at the visuals.
01:00:38These are all the motor pumps that
01:00:40have been put on the road by the civic officials, by the BBMP.
01:00:45What we are told is that this woman usually
01:00:47goes in the morning to put on the motor switch
01:00:49to fetch water.
01:00:49But this morning, she got electrocuted
01:00:52after she came in contact with a live buyer
01:00:54and died on the spot, is what we are told.
01:00:57The body has been taken to the hospital.
01:00:59The police have rushed to the spot.
01:01:00But the biggest question is also the civic apathy
01:01:03in Bengaluru city.
01:01:05And again, we have been hearing about potholes, live wires,
01:01:08as well as open drains.
01:01:10But today is another incident of a woman getting electrocuted
01:01:13due to coming in touch with a live wire in Chamrajpeti BBMP
01:01:17limits.
01:01:18This is in the heart of the Bengaluru city.
01:01:20This is all Bangalore as well.
01:01:21But the visuals is shocking to the amount of motors
01:01:24that have been put on the road and pipes connected
01:01:26to these motors from the water pipes as well.
01:01:30The water pipes usually is the connection
01:01:32given by the BBMP.
01:01:33But the motors have been kept on road,
01:01:35connected to electric wire.
01:01:37And unfortunately, a woman came in contact with a live wire
01:01:41and got electrocuted and passed away this morning.
01:01:44Very disturbing.
01:01:45This is something that shouldn't happen at all
01:01:48in a developed city, a cosmopolitan city,
01:01:50aiming to become a big Indian representative city.
01:01:56And therefore, at this time, a woman
01:01:58can die because there's a wire in a civic body pump.
01:02:01Let's just hope that the family, at least,
01:02:04is spoken to by the administration, by the netas,
01:02:07and are provided all sorts of assistance.
01:02:18These drivers who believe they can just speed on, kill people,
01:02:21mow them down, now in Dehradun.
01:02:24A car driver crushing Dehradun pedestrians and motorists.
01:02:30He fled the scene after the incident.
01:02:31The hunt is on for the accused.
01:02:33CCTVs are being now picked up by the investigators here.
01:02:39But here's the reality.
01:02:40It's not just about hitting people.
01:02:43This speeding driver has killed people.
01:02:45I'm talking about four people crushed to death.
01:02:48Two critical in hospital.
01:02:49These were pedestrians in Dehradun, a motorist as well.
01:02:53We'll try and ascertain more details, the timing.
01:02:56The cops are on the ground.
01:02:58In Uttarakhand's Dehradun, we are told.
01:03:00And remember, Dehradun also has a lot of highways
01:03:03that connect cities and states.
01:03:05A car driver speeding crushed pedestrians and motorists,
01:03:09fled the incident from the scene.
01:03:12The hunt is on for this accused driver.
01:03:14We'll try and get more details from the CCTV.
01:03:17Four people just crushed to death
01:03:19because a car driver could not control the speed.
01:03:23Two critical in hospital.
01:03:25What exactly happened?
01:03:26Did it happen during late into the night?
01:03:28Was the driver in any way intoxicated?
01:03:31We have a report coming in from my colleague,
01:03:33Ankit Sharma, from this hit and run case site in Dehradun.
01:03:40Four people have died and two are injured.
