00:00Some experts believe that it will affect the country's economy if the Philippines does not follow the interpol's request for the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
00:10Luisa Iris Peza, Detailer.
00:15Give and take. That's what happened between the Philippines and the International Police Crime Organization, according to an international law expert.
00:25President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has already said that the country is obligated to follow the interpol's request as a member.
00:33So if we are unable to provide support and cooperation on this, by the next time we need to ask for help from them because we want to correct this criminality or this person, how can you expect that they will also comply?
00:51In other words, this is just a give and take in diplomacy.
00:54An additional international law expert added that it is possible for the Philippines to bounce back if it does not follow the interpol's request.
01:02It is possible that this will affect the country's economy.
01:06So if we do not provide cooperation, there will be some impressions, if not impressions, real effect to our treaty performance or treaty obligations with other states.
01:22In the future, the other states will be careful in dealing with us.
01:27Because why would I make a deal with you if you do not know how to fulfill our simple agreement?
01:32First of all, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulia said that if the ICC approaches the interpol, it will not be easy for the Philippines to back down because the Filipinos are already familiar with what is happening in other countries.
01:46Let us remember, there are more than 10 million Filipinos going around the world right now that might need the help of the interpol.
01:55That is why we value the interpol over a lot of other things.
02:01We are not giving up on anything here.
02:04You know, that is a political statement more than anything else.
02:09That is just his political line that he is following.
02:16It has been several occasions that the interpol has helped the government.
02:20If we can remember, the Philippines has been cooperating with the interpol for a long time,
02:24just like the arrest of former Negros Oriental Congressman Arnulfo Tevez Jr. in Timor-Leste.
02:30Former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, a.k.a. Guo Ping, was also brought back to the country.
02:36She was accused of running away from the Philippines.
02:39But former President Rodrigo Duterte's camp is still appealing to the Supreme Court of the Philippines.
02:45They are requesting a temporary restraining order.
02:48Their camp has filed four different petitions asking for Duterte's release and return to the Philippines.
02:56But it seems like it's too late when the TRO released the SC, according to an expert.
03:03It can be considered as moot.
03:06But I'm sorry, I didn't read their petition.
03:10But if you look at it, if it should be stopped, what else can we stop?
03:16I mean, that's the simple way to look at the mootness of that.
03:20The Supreme Court said that the TRO has not yet released the petition.
03:25But in the first petition filed by Senator Bato de la Rosa and the former president,
03:30the SC said that they have not seen a clear reason to release the TRO.
03:37Meanwhile, the respondents were still commenting,
03:40including Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulia,
03:45Local Government Secretary John Vic Remulia, and others.
03:49Louisa Erispe for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
