00:00Before former President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in The Hague in the Netherlands to face the International Criminal Court,
00:06some people were tensed after the arrest of the former President in Villamor Airbase in Pasay.
00:12First news, Ian Cruz.
00:30Before the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte in The Hague, tensions in Villamor Airbase were high.
00:40Police Major General Nicolás Torre, who accompanied the former President, went to the waiting airplane.
00:47But Duterte's son, Vice President Sar Duterte, is waiting.
00:52Duterte's son, Vice President Sar Duterte, went to the waiting airplane.
01:23I said that my lawyer is the son of a woman.
01:31Former Executive Secretary Salvador Mijaldea became even more tense after he stopped Duterte's arrest.
01:40What did I ask for? Let me stand here.
01:45Let me go. Let me go.
01:51You have the right to remain silent. Everything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.
01:56You have the right for an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, an attorney will be afforded to you.
02:01Do you understand this right? Yes, sir.
02:02You are under arrest for obstruction of justice, Article 29, sir.
02:06Let's go.
02:11Mijaldea said that the former President is weak for a long trip.
02:16Finally, Duterte accompanied his partner, Hanilette Avancena, and his son, Kitty.
02:23Can you talk to my husband for a while?
02:30At 9 p.m., the former President boarded the Gulfstream 550 private jet.
02:36He was accompanied by Mijaldea.
02:38Another lawyer of Duterte, Attorney Martin Delgra, said that
02:42the former President was accompanied by a nurse and a personal assistant.
02:46But at 11 p.m., the private aircraft took off.
02:51In the flight path, in the flight radar app,
02:54you can see that the plane that President Duterte boarded from Manila to Dubai, United Arab Emirates,
03:00took an hour and a minute to land for a layover.
03:06From Dubai, the plane will head to a particular part of Europe, Rotterdam,
03:14which is near the border with the Netherlands where the ICC is located.
03:18At 8 a.m., Manila Time, the plane arrived in Dubai to refuel.
03:23Duterte talked to his son, Kitty, when they landed in Dubai,
03:27based on the IG post of the young Duterte.
03:30Senator Pong Go also posted pictures of the former President while in Dubai.
03:36Before 4 p.m., Philippine time, the plane took off again to Rotterdam, The Hague Airport.
03:43According to a source, Duterte's family visited the Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands.
03:48He was worried when he arrived in The Hague.
03:51But the ICC did not agree because of security issues.
03:55Based on the protocol, the former President will be turned over by the authorities to the ICC.
04:02He will be brought to the ICC Detention Facility based on the website of the ICC.
04:08The Detention Center is complete with facilities.
04:11The detainee's cell will have its own bathroom, table, bed, television and intercom.
04:17The detainee will also have access to the gym, sports facilities, kitchen and computer.
04:23Based on the protocol, the former President will be booked in a cell.
04:29While Duterte was traveling, his children, Davao City Mayor Baste and Kitty, visited the Supreme Court.
04:36They asked for a separate petition for habeas corpus,
04:39an order from the Philippine government to return the father to them.
04:44The arrest and detainment of the former President Duterte cannot be based on the ICC Warrant of Arrest
04:51because the ICC has no jurisdiction in our country.
04:55A special raffle was made for the petitions and assigned to a member in charge
05:01for the discussion and deliberation to begin.
05:04The Justice Department agreed to follow the legal procedures for the arrest
05:11to ensure the due process and to protect Duterte's rights.
05:15The Supreme Court did not grant the former President and Senator Bato de la Rosa
05:20the immediate permission of the government to assist the International Criminal Court and Interpol.
05:26The court said,
05:27the petitioners were not able to prove that there is a clear and undeniable right or need for the TRO to be released immediately.
05:35But they were given up to 10 days to comment.
05:39According to another lawyer of the former President,
05:42the petitions for habeas corpus were not enough for Duterte's children.
05:47According to another legal expert,
05:49the court can consider the petitions as moot or not valid.
05:53If it should be stopped, what else can we stop?
05:56I mean, that's the simple way to look at the mootness of that.
06:00Now, this is also an opportunity for the court to clarify some questions about the ICC
06:07and the direction of the Philippines here even if it is no longer a member.
06:11This is the first news, Ian Cruz for GMA Integrated News.
