00:00This is an absolute sh** show. This actually is terrible and it is a threat to our democracy.
00:07Well, yesterday I wrote to the CCC outlining my concerns around the fact that the Australian
00:13Labor Party in Western Australia had received around $60,000 in donations through a subsidiary
00:20of a Singapore-based company, Purcell Kelly, of donations to win. At the same time, this
00:27company had been awarded an $86 million contract for the conduct of the 2025 and the 2029 state
00:35election. Something that was not disclosed to the Parliament during Budget Estimates,
00:40something that was unknown until we've seen the absolute schmuzzle that has been played
00:47out over the election this year. I've heard of whole busloads of people who have been
00:52turned away from a booth, a whole busload of people, because they didn't have any absent
00:59votes at the booth to actually handle it. They had no role to handle it. I've heard
01:04of other examples where electorate staff had wrongly informed people as to how to vote
01:10below the line on their ticket, which means that their vote will be informed, when in
01:16fact they were told that they could number up to 20 below the line, instead of up to
01:2220 at least below the line. It's actually disgraceful. I cannot think of anything in
01:28the entire time that I've been involved in moving alive that has been so fundamentally
01:35inappropriate in terms of the conduct of our democracy.
