00:00Justin Fields signs with the New York Jets on a two-year, $40 million deal.
00:05$30 million guaranteed up front.
00:07Fields, after completing four years in the NFL, his first three in Chicago,
00:12last year in Pittsburgh, started the first six games for the Steelers,
00:16went four and two, now finds a new home with a new regime in New York.
00:22Joe, it's no secret, if you follow the Spiz Grizz Network the last three, four years,
00:26everybody knows that you and me, we're pretty big Justin Fields guys.
00:30What do you like about this move that now has Fields
00:33more than likely the starting quarterback of the Jets?
00:36Well, if you go back to the tapes, and I was one that said that the Jets would be better off
00:40selecting Justin Fields in the draft over Zach Wilson, I honestly believe that.
00:45I just think he was a better all-around quarterback.
00:47I even said that prior to Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields would have been a perfect fit
00:52with the New York Jets to pair him with Garrett Wilson.
00:55They went the old man route.
00:56It didn't work out, and now they signed Justin Fields to a $40 million contract
01:01with $30 million guaranteed.
01:03I've read the threads, and I've seen...
01:05And you know what's great about Jet fans is that when they got Aaron Rodgers,
01:10they were stamping their tickets for the Super Bowl.
01:12This is it, 10-1 shot, AFC champs, this, that, the other thing.
01:17And Aaron Rodgers was never a good fit in New York because it was all about Aaron Rodgers.
01:22And not about the team chemistry, right?
01:24He ran out Robert Saleh, didn't perform, got hurt,
01:27didn't put up numbers until after the fact, and it was his way or no way.
01:32You bring in now a team player that is a locker room guy,
01:35that is a mobile quarterback that can make plays outside the pocket if the
01:39offensive line breaks down.
01:41And all I've heard from numerous Jet fans online
01:44in the industry is that they're going to suck this year.
01:46Let me just say this.
01:47As a Dolphin fan, as back in, you know, other teams and wanting to see other teams
01:53and hating the New York Jets as a fan, I'm telling you this from the gambling perspective.
01:57I think they're going to over-exceed expectations.
02:00I think they have their quarterback of the future for the next three to five years.
02:04This is a perfect fit for this team.
02:06And I think Justin Fields potentially could be a star
02:09in terms of Aaron Glenn and that offensive staff.
02:12So I'm telling you this right now, 140-1 to win the Super Bowl.
02:16Just from the value perspective, that has weight.
02:20I'm not suggesting this team is a Super Bowl contender,
02:23but I'm going over there, win total this year.
02:25I'm going even taking a ticket potentially for them to make the playoffs.
02:30I said it, I'll go down with Justin Fields.
02:33This is the perfect fit for him with young talent,
02:37players that he could grow with, and a young head coach.
02:40Perfect.
02:41I'm telling you, and Jet fans that sell it, that is the perfect MO.
02:45An indicator to know I'm on the right side.
02:48When Jet fans hate something, they're never right.
02:51Well, so listen, I think it's a great signing for New York.
02:56I think it's a great signing for this new regime,
02:58led by new head coach Aaron Glenn, new general manager Darren Mugee.
03:03It is a deal that allows you to see what Justin Fields has.
03:06Is he a starting caliber quarterback in the NFL?
03:09There has been glimpses.
03:10There has been spurts.
03:11There has been success.
03:12There's been some downside as well, if we call it like it is.
03:16Last year in six starts, only threw for a buck 60 plus twice.
03:21And when you think about what he did as a passer,
03:23just five touchdowns in six starts to only a single interception.
03:28But it's not just as a passer,
03:30three games with 55 yards on the ground and five rushing scores.
03:33You can incorporate a new offensive scheme to highlight what Justin Fields can do.
03:38Of course, he reunites with his college teammate at Ohio State, Garrett Wilson.
03:42Very promising young wide receiver, Offensive Rookie of the Year,
03:45just a few years ago.
03:47Joe, he was thrilled by the news of this signing yesterday as well.
03:51If you think of what they did in Columbus,
03:53you don't think of Justin Fields as simply a runner.
03:56You think of him as one of the greatest passers we have ever seen in Big Ten football.
04:00And that's not hyperbole.
04:02But I will just follow up with this.
04:05I think it's going to be fascinating, Joe, to watch the Jets this year.
04:08A team the last two seasons, because of Aaron Rodgers,
04:11had the great weight of expectation.
04:13Expected to be a playoff team, expected to contend in the AFC,
04:17obviously came nowhere close to that.
04:19The expectations entering last year as compared to this year,
04:23the Jets have become such a notable team in the largest media market in this country.
04:27Do they kind of fade a little bit from thought?
04:30Because they should be a team expected to win six and a half, seven and a half,
04:34something around there from a win total perspective.
04:36A team that has failed to make the playoffs.
04:3914 straight seasons, finishing with five wins or fewer half of those 14 years.
04:44And in that situation, I think it's a good move for the Jets.
04:48And I hope Justin Fields can thrive.
