00:00One of the ways as we are in, you know, going through this responsible gambling month, potentially
00:05to curb issues in sports betting is to institute max bets.
00:10What are max bets?
00:11Well, obviously, that means that there's only a certain amount that you could bet on games.
00:15Pat, this is not unusual.
00:17For example, some college basketball games, totals, et cetera.
00:21But having max bets specifically instituted for a state would be unusual.
00:26But is that what is coming, potentially, to Connecticut?
00:29Yeah, a lawmaker in Connecticut has filed a bill.
00:34It's actually to join a multi-state pact that you can play with players from other states
00:40in poker or a few other games like that, which, you know, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada,
00:47those are part of this pact.
00:50And so that's what the main part of the bill is, is to say to the governor, hey, can you
00:53enter this and give our bettors some more options?
00:57In it, there's also a little stipulation of setting a max sports bet.
01:02It does not have a dollar amount tied to it or anything.
01:05It just says we have to set this.
01:07So we'll see if that kind of comes as things go on.
01:11But it's just one of many bills kind of filed in Connecticut this year with guardrails in
01:16effect.
01:17You know, it's two-way markets guaranteed, maximum hold by sportsbooks.
01:24There's a few others, including the crazy one we talked about earlier this year, and
01:28it has not moved at all, but it was to legalize sports betting in the skies above Connecticut.
01:32And that came after that DraftKings partnership with Delta Airlines.
01:36So there's lots of action going on in Connecticut.
01:38In fact, there's a hearing going on this morning about prohibiting sports betting advertising
01:45on college campuses, which we've just seen pass in New Jersey, which seemingly has plenty
01:51of public support.
01:54I don't think there's too much objection to why you would need to do that.
01:59There's plenty of pushback on sports betting advertising in general, which is a major reason
02:03we're seeing a lot of industry headwinds right now.
02:06And this is just another one of the major storylines this year of kind of scrutiny on
02:13sports betting.
02:14I mean, the max bet is one thing.
02:17We've seen a couple of state lawmakers introduce just a complete repeal of their state sports
02:23betting laws.
02:24Just yesterday, we saw Representative Paul Tonko and Senator Richard Blumenthal reintroduce
02:30nationwide legislation, the Safe Bet Act, to kind of put guardrails and responsible
02:34gambling programs in place that would set deposit limits and restrict advertising and
02:40the advertising times, things like that.
02:43These things are just kind of cropping up all over the place.
02:47We're seeing little tiny tweaks to make the sports betting industry a little bit more
02:53safe for consumers.
02:54And that's, again, why it's a good thing to be regulated.
02:57And so they're not going offshore and betting kind of without these guardrails and protections
03:02in place.
03:03And so the more it's fine-tuned, the better.
03:05Now, are all of these suggestions good?
03:07Of course not.
03:08The industry has plenty of feedback, and that's why I see some things pass a lot easier than
03:12other things.
03:13And so, yeah.
03:14But yeah, max bet.
03:15I mean, I wouldn't be surprised kind of to see this implemented or at least introduced
03:19other places.
03:20I don't necessarily think it'll pass.
