00:00Somali security forces ended a 24-hour siege by the al-Shabaab militants on Tuesday after
00:07carrying out an attack leaving an unknown number of people dead.
00:11The attack began when a car bomb exploded Tuesday at a Cairo hotel, which houses traditional
00:17elders and military officers involved in coordinating the government's offensive against al-Shabaab.
00:23The attack took place in Somali city of Beledouin, which is about 335 km north of the capital
00:29Mogadishu. It is also the capital of Iran region, a strategic location in the ongoing
00:33campaign against al-Shabaab.
00:39They first attacked us with a vehicle laden with explosives. Since I was among those on
00:43duty during the initial attack, I also fought against the assailants. We truly fought to
00:48the end, but there were also suicide attackers. One of them detonated himself inside, resulting
00:53in the highest number of casualties.
01:00Al-Shabaab, which opposes Somalia's federal government, frequently carries out bombings
01:05and assaults targeting government officials and military personnel in the Horn of Africa
