Back home authorities are telling residents in south-east Queensland the flood clean-up efforts will take some time. Life is slowly getting back to normal for many, but some are still without power.

00:00There's been a collective sigh of relief here on the Gold Coast today to see the sun out
00:07and shining after Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
00:12And as river levels continue to ease across the impacted area, recovery efforts will begin.
00:20Energex workers are out and about today fixing downed power lines and the Queensland Fire
00:25Department is assessing damaged homes.
00:29If you go for a drive here on the Gold Coast today, you'll see huge trees down and lots
00:34of debris lining roads, gutters and footpaths.
00:38More than 49,000 residents remain without power today and one Gold Coast woman I spoke
00:44to earlier today, she's been without power for five days and Energex has told her that
00:50she may be without power for another four days and that would take her up to nine days
00:55without electricity, which is understandably quite frustrating for some people.
01:01Today the Federal Government has announced a further round of financial support, $1,000
01:07per adult and $400 per child for serious damage to their homes or for serious injury.
01:15And that's for residents in Logan, Gold Coast, Redlands and several Harvey Bay suburbs.
01:21There's also been an extension of personal hardship grants from the Gold Coast, Redlands
01:26and Logan to include the Scenic Rim and Brisbane.
01:30And while evacuation centres have closed, eight community recovery hubs have opened
01:36on the Gold Coast, Logan and Redlands.
01:39Life is returning back to normal here on the Gold Coast.
01:42Just this morning there were plenty of people back out and about going for their morning
01:47walk or run, getting coffee and catching up with friends, which is really nice to see.
01:53Traffic on the roads has also started to return to normal conditions.
01:57People are going back to the office and most schools that were closed due to the cyclone
02:02have reopened now and I know many residents in South East Queensland will be relieved
02:08to hear that there is no significant rainfall forecast for impacted areas for the rest of
02:14today.
